It's Paqueta. To be fair he does make up for it by scoring a last minute penalty!
I rate Paqueta but he has to shoot with his right there after the miscontrol! Maybe the miscontrol ruined his confidence on that foot though

Is that Antony making a complete mess of that? Trying to finish with his left?
Edit: can't be but it's still awful whoever it is.

That's what the 2nd striker role is going to be for England, come on with 10 mins left and chase things down
It won't be though, Kane will play every minute

Taking only two out and out strikers would be **** stupid. Although that's Southgate.
Two players for every position is the norm, and Rashford can cover there. It ain't that stupid tbh especially when you have Kane.

Scary thing is I'd actually take him over Southgate

What’s with the Toney v Watkins agenda? I would imagine both will get in the squad and both can bring different things to the tournament.
He'll surely take just two strikers, and the second one never gets a minute with Kane around anyway.

The sigh of relief when GS finally goes will be immense. Not quite as immense as when Steven got sacked though.

Tyrone Mings
Ezri Konsa
Ollie Watkins
Douglas Luiz
All signings by Smith who are now full internationals with multiple caps (Ezri surely will have even under the clown) for strong nations. Great stuff.

Part of me thinks I'd take Bowen to the Euros for his directness, but if it's him or Palmer, Palmer all day. Palmer is much more effective against a low block.

That has to be top 10 goals ever scored?

I will admit I am, to a certain extent, playing devil's advocate, because the cosy consensus in this thread irritates me. But I will absolutely fight to the death that **** third place playoffs don't matter, and that including friendlies in a manager's record is bullshit.
They do matter though, because he's never instilling the mentality that we can beat these sides. We just collapse/bend over to most strong opposition.
Even when we beat that weak Germany side, Muller missed a golden chance and it was practically a home game for us.

I'd take Mainoo, don't care how young he is. He's much better on the ball than Gallagher.

38 minutes ago, useless said:Lets set s*** straight, he's been pretty rubbish for us, the compaisons to Bailey make no sense, as Bailey was never as poor as Zaniolo has been, Zaniolo has not even been as good as El Ghazi or Trezeguet were, so as such it's probably us getting rid of him rather than him not having patience. We will think him for important goals and workrate, and wish him well as he sets off for a new challenge, in a different league he could indeed do well
Trezeguet is a horrendous footballer who's not fit to lace Zaniolo's boots. Also, we were fighting to stay in the league then, not for a CL spot. Ridiculous comparison. Your opinion is not setting shit straight.
And I'd say Bailey was easily as bad as Zaniolo has been at times. His decision making was woeful and he'd continually run down blind alleys.

His treatment of Grealish clearly shows he has/had an issue with Villa tbh.
Nah, clearly shows nothing. But if anything, I'd say he had an issue with Grealish from their U21 days, not with Villa. But I think it was just as likely Southgate being stubborn and/or clueless. Along the lines of thinking, Jack doesn't play for a top four/six club, he can't be that good. That's how much of a basic thinker GS is.

I used to take WhoScored seriously, not anymore...

tactically i agree, personally i really dont believe any of the BS around bias and team selection. I dont think he hates villa, every message board in the country has a thread where they are astonished that X player has not been selected and believe GS has an agenda.
Personally i think its a tough job, no longer dominated by the best managers in the country and he bases selection on performance, suitability, player personality, flexibility a whole range of things.
I think Ezri and Ollie are both in a great position to be selected for squad that will only have 23 players in it.
I don't think he hates Villa either - but I do think he's clueless.

It’s often the case really… maybe some of our players aren’t quite as idiotic as many seem to enjoy making out
I don't know - did you see the Matty Cash and Ollie 30 seconds game?

Zero problem with anything he has said… do believe is future is back in Italy but hopefully he can contribute and help us out for the rest of the season. Opportunities and time has been limited imo.
Good luck to him.
He speaks very maturely and intelligently. Seems his actual character is far away from the one that's sometimes portrayed.

an obvious point but it is the media that has suggested Ollie is now out based on one appearance. Not Southgate.
Hes made 10 appearances under Southgate and has been on the periphery of the tournament squads over the last few years.
Safe to say Southgate gives him more of a chance that the narrative suggests
Fair point. I always think the worst when it comes to GS, he'll never make me think otherwise.

The media coverage has been ridiculously harsh on Watkins with lots of narrative coverage suggesting that it was practically his fault that England lost and that he’s missed his one chance to go to the Euros. The team was crap as a whole and created next to no chances. And it’s a bold move in any case to ignore the top goal scoring and assisting Englishman in the PL this year
I dont mind Toney as a player- he’s a reliable scorer and has decent link up play. But he’s a piece of work who was rightly banned from the game for fraudulent behaviour and has a history of unsavoury incidents. As an England fan, I don’t want to see anyone with that sort of personality near the team. Watkins of course is almost diametrically opposite and has a very good character. It’s odd since I’d previously thought Southgate valued these sorts of things but obviously not
I cannot stand Toney as a person so agree completely with you.
It shows how weak/clueless Southgate is though - basing his selections off one-off 90 minute performances instead of being certain of the type of forward he wants to take and making it work.
PS - why does it really matter anyway? Kane will play the full 90 every game unless injured.

Lay off the crack then, that valuation has no grounding in reality for a home grown player in his mid 20's that is proven Premier League quality.
How much you reckon he'd go for then Einstein?
