I'm not convinced Richards would be great at RB anyway, he's not the most composed on the ball. Sure, he'd power down the flank, but would probably be as ineffective as Hutton with his final ball.
-
Yeah my only criticism of Gil is that at times I think he does play very risk free and I'd like him to almost drive towards goal a bit more rather than move the ball on square.
With Jack, he will pick the ball up in between the lines, turn and then go forward whilst facing goal. Would like to see Gil do this too.
But that is the problem (and it's not pointed at all the fans) but where I sit - every time a player loses the ball or tries something that fails - he gets slagged off and the groans start. I have to bite my lip in case it starts off cos that really irks!. Bloke behind me just goes off on one after EVERY misplaced pass or failed attempt to defend or whatever. He even went off on one when Gil lost the ball and started slagging him off!
Maybe he's a bit apprehensive seeing as some fans don't seem to have the patience/control during a game. Just my take - I think as he plays more and gets confident he (and others) will start taking more risks and attempt at least to score more often!
People who slag off everything like that often have no experience of playing the game themselves. So they don't know how hard it is to stay tidy with your passing etc when exhausted, or when running at a high speed, or with the opposition buzzing round trying to intercept everything.

I'd drop Hutton, Veretout and Gana to a 7, and Sinclair, Bacuna and Ayew to a 6. Also I don't think Gil was held back? He was just unlucky that Kolarov was covering Fernando or Fernandinho (what's the difference between those two anyway? :D).

After one game it's obvious he'll offer much more than Westwood. He can actually manipulate the ball in tight areas and drive forwards. Very impressed with the glimpses he showed. That midfield 3 has a lot of potential, time for it be realised now!

This ref has given us nothing all game!

Amavi sprinting to stick up for Gestede...what a man

Souness sharing his prehistoric views. Obviously has no idea about our squad either.

Most sensible team selection I've seen all season.
This, absolutely loving the lineup. Someone with some common sense! Come on boys.

Harry Redknapp has admitted that he was shocked when Villa appointed Remi Garde.
He stated: "Garde would never have come to my mind if asking me [for a manager, unless Rosie got involved or there was a brown paper bag.].
Thanks for that 'Arry.

A key pass is a pass that leads to a shot I think. Whether they count when someone lays the ball off for a 30-yard effort, I'm not sure.

The thing is, we can criticise a player all we want (and I've given Gabby as much stick as anyone over the years!) but at the end of the day it's the manager that picks him. He doesn't pick himself. If he's never been left out regularly he'll never learn.

Our only poor summer signings were Lescott and arguably Gestede. All the others are either good already or potentially very good. Jury out on Veretout as well I guess.
Gana, Richards, Amavi and Ayew all look great signings.

Yep comes across really well.
Onwards and upwards for us now!

My main problem with Westwood is that he's too timid. Just the type of person he is I guess. I get the impression that if he had the opportunity to move to a Championship club where less is expected of him, he'd be happy to take it.
-
Is that definitely his page though? As he was liking comments saying Sherwood should be sacked etc
-
In my opinion, im not sure how much KMAC did wrong. Im not sure the lads who were on the bench could really argue that they've done much to warrant being in the team, afterall, the majority of the summer signings have played a lot of the games this season and been a major factor in why were bottom of the league............... are they as good as we think they are?? Have we bought a load of duds and Sherwood and his Crew realise that?
I don't now im just playing devils advocate
But I do know that the talk of Conspiracy Theories is a right load of old bollocks. Professional Pride takes over and if you've got players their that would make a significant difference to the team with the aim of getting a result, then the manager will pick said options. There is no way theyd "chuck a result" just to prove a point and alienate players in the squad, it just makes no sense at all. In my opinion there wasn't masses on the bench that was crying out "I should be in this team"
I hear the cries for Gil. Yeah he looks neat and tidy, but hes been with us nearly a year and still not forced his way into the worst team weve had in 25 years. Same goes for the other new lads.
If you listen to the fanbase weve got "great" players in Gil, Veretout, Gana, Sanchez, Amavi, Illori, Ayew, Traore etc.......................... fact is, they cant be as the bulk of our team on that basis is quality, but yet most cant get in, and were bottom of the league. This is the most damning verdict for me. Conspiracy theories is a load of old bollocks. The players not being as good as we think. Most definitely
Let's take performances, for e.g. Ayew scores against Swansea, comes on against Soton wins a penalty, then comes on yesterday and scores. If KMac was in charge for weekend, you'd bet a pound to think Ayew would not start considering the past evidence. We have all said it numerous times here, Westwood and Sanchez together as a pair do not work, they never have and never will but yet we continue. Richardson is arguably the worst left back the club has ever seen yet we leave the one we spent just over 8million on, on the bench. Adama, it's no coincidence since his comment on FB about only being given 5mins, that he's been dropped completely. The most bizarre of all is that the a player who is probably the fittest we have is deemed fatigued considering he had 9 days rest. A coincidence that the only player used by KMac yesterday which we'd purchased in the summer was Lescott, so that's nearly 50 odd million worth of talent that is just sitting there. We can sit there and say they are not good enough, but have they really been given a chance, look at Ayew, everyone said he's shit, waste of money, bought the wrong Ayew, a few games and look how much he's putting in. We have been grossly mismanaged and for me KMac and Tony Parkes should be sacked as soon as possible if they truly think that was the best team available to them last night. That was a team picked for their pal Tim Sherwood and not for the interests of Aston Villa.
What's this comment from Traore on Facebook?

Sanchez is a confident player who will put himself in the firing line and take responsibility on the pitch. Too many timid players (Westwood, Richardson, to a certain extent Bacuna) who take no responsibility and just want to get rid of the ball as soon as they get it. You can physically see their nerves half the time.

Why do none of the press ever ask why he's not playing?
The apparently amazing Gary Neville last night described him as 'jinky'.
Basically, the media don't know enough to really analyse a teams state of affairs, well, at least those in the bottom half, as these teams aren't considered important enough. It's not much to ask that those who are paid several million pounds a year to sit on their arse in a Sky studio, to actually have in depth knowledge of every single team and squad in the premier league.
Sadly these morons aren't held to a high enough standard, and that's why punditry in this country is an absolute joke. It's pretty much exclusively former players making huge sums of money off of their names without bothering to do any leg work, and as a result, they offer absolutely zero insight into the game.
I wasn't thinking pundits specifically, but in press conferences. Why are our managers (well...Sherwood) never questioned directly why they're not playing him is what I was thinking.

Why do none of the press ever ask why he's not playing?
I did see an article a few weeks back listing him as the 5th most underused player in the league in terms of poistion/role played and amount of minutes. Don't think it was by a major media outlet though.
Yeah, I posted that on here actually. Was Football365.

When is his first training session? Can't wait till he's out on that field whipping them into shape and getting some proper organisation going.

This is a goldmine
Would love it someone makes a similar Villa themed collection for VT. Would love a Benteke scowl, or a depressed Lambert
I thought I was on the KanyeToThe forums at first

I don't rate him as highly as most on here, as I think he can take an extra touch at times when it's not needed (there was a chance tonight to put a cross in from the byline with three men in the box, but he decided to cut back; as an example). However, he should still start ahead of Jack at the moment.
He can take as many touches as he wants as long as he keeps the ball and is effective at the end of it. Which most of the time he is.

Just came back on to post about him.
He gets a lot of stick but he comes up with moments of quality which most of our other players (at least the ones starting at the moment!) can't.
Shown tonight with his curler off the post and then his pinpoint ball to Gestede which he somehow headed off target, should have been an assist.

Alan Hutton

Makes you question...is he working himself into those...or is it the opposition letting him have space as they know he won't deliver
I like Hutton though, you'll never see him hiding, always wants the ball.
