How are you reporting this as fact? It's not at all provable that this was the case. Pretty sure Gerrard bought him for depth as cover for Luiz and/or McGinn in the roles Gerrard was deploying them. This was long before Kamara came in remember.
I agree but it wasn't before Kamara came in, we signed him after Kamara.

It was but Roy was so bad and frustrating that he seemed so different.
Don't forget we had Allardyce inbetween. Would much rather him over Southgate (if the corruption hadn't happened anyway).

Daily mail said he's just not the same player for England as he is for villa
After one 90, laughable

If Toney plays well on Tuesday he's on the plane and Watkins is staying home.
Belgium are another half decent side so I can't envisage our performance against them being much/any better.

England don't have a left back, they could play Saka and he would thrive in that role but it wont happen
No it won't and it shouldn't, he's our best right winger.

Even with five pens, he averages a goal contribution every 92 minutes in the league, or one every 99 minutes in all comps. Chelsea must really be excellent at set pieces.

I still stand by it. Palmer stats look good through mainly penalties and set pieces but he doesnt impress me at all from the eye test
If was Spanish he be playing for the Chelsea level like Levante or similar
Madness tbh. No idea who you're watching.
And I also think 'through penalties and set pieces' is a load of rubbish. No idea how to check but I'd say he has plenty of contributions from open play.

Foden doesn't get involved anywhere near enough for me. Palmer can change games, he did it against us this season.

PS I forgot about Saka for RW anyway.

Foden is way better than Palmer. I think he is a system player but still way better than Palmer and Bowen.
Palmer should really be nowhere near the England squad
What makes you say that? As I remember you saying earlier in the season that Palmer does nothing but score penalties, yet here he is, with 19 PL goal contributions, and 28 in all comps. He's a quality player with composure, skill, intelligence and weight of pass.

Yeah I thought he used the ball cleverly pretty much every time he had it.

Just a quality player

Despite a plethora of attacking talent, his methodology is to keep it tight at the back, don't concede. Against the lesser sides Kane will inevitably score, and despite a defensive set up its enough to stat pad and win 3/4:0.
Against the better sides, despite being ultra defensive you will invariably get picked off or they will take their chances.
Brazil should scored 3 tonight, whereas we created absolutely nothing.
But as Southgate said 'we had as many attempts as them' an international 'coach' who doesn't care about the quality of the chances that are being created as long as a shot comes in from somewhere. Scarily basic.

Zero clear cut chances at home against a Brazil side with two CBs and keeper all winning their first cap? Gareth loves that, let's take the positives.

He should of pissed off after the last World Cup and let someone who doesn't think it's 2004 takeover.
Should have pissed off as long ago as possible or better yet never been hired in the first place. Drains your energy he does. I imagine he does the same to the players.

For right wing I'd have both Bowen and Palmer ahead of Foden. Starting to think Foden is a system player, does little to nothing for England.

We only had one shot in target didn't we? Can only remember the foden daisy cutter
I'm not sure to be honest. Flashscore does say four each. I can't remember many either. Gordon had one first half though actually. But it was a soft hit and hope from outside the area.
-
Only this guy could be desperate to point out the 'positives' after creating zero clear cut chances at home!
'We had as many attempts as them' - bollocks! Who's falling for that basic line? It's the quality of the chances that counts and we had no good chances.
As someone else said - it encourages accepting mediocrity. He's a weak manager who delivers weak performances when it matters most. It's as good as a fact!

Southgate happy with the performance, saw everyone work hard apparently??
His desperation is scary. If he's happy to accept that...christ.

Southgate 'as many attempts as them on goal' Christ...0.85xG VS 2.18xG...bloke is deluded.
-
I thought he held it up really well and tried to force good situations out of nothing a couple of times as well. Although Gordon tried I thought he was lacking quality, and Foden did absolutely nothing all game. So the service he had was seriously lacking.

Rashford's ability to beat a man is non existent.
And if someone tackles him, he just gives up. No aggression in his game whatsoever.

I disagree about Bellingham being quiet, he was involved loads. Not saying they'll hit the heights they do at club level under Southgate but Foden was anonymous last night.
