  1. re: building a team - it may not need to be such a massive overhaul. Let's say (in the spirit of optimism) that the combination of Dr X's cash, his stated ambition and RDM's status means we hang on to some of the players we might otherwise have lost. Still ship out the crap, but replace them with 3-4 promoted from the youth and add 6-7 to solidify the spine and we should be there or thereabouts. I don't think we'll need 15+ brought in.
  2. Yep - suggested this in the transfer speculation thread yesterday. #notitk Makes complete sense and if he owns both clubs I'm sure there are apprenticeships and exchanges etc that can circumvent some of the fees. Imagine a minibus to China with Gabby, Richards, Lescott and Richardson leaving in a few weeks. Happy days.
  3. Given it'll be a whole new board, there'll be a lot more cohesion than we've had for the last few years. Getting the scouting team right and in is key, but RDM should really only have to concentrate on the squad.
  4. Worth a cheeky fiver for next caretaker.
  5. Maybe they'll say it's on if you sack off samuelson - Tony bungs him a few quid, jobs a goodun. Bring on the good times.
  6. The cv and achievements are great. Certainly above our current station. The concern is around whether he can do it from the terrible toxic base we're starting out from. Bring in a strong no 2 and some serious experienced scouting talent and I'll feel more confident. Show us intent with the first few ins and as importantly outs and I'll be right behind him. No clean slates or second chances though - we need ruthless.
  7. Oh well. Welcome, Robert (as I'm sure the OS will say). I'm sure it's going to be a ride..take us back please.
  8. Here's an idea - why don't we ship out the crap to China on some deal. They can wander about earning a last paycheck for a year, we get rid and we'll go over and do tours there as I'm sure we're planning to anyway. There must be some way to swing that.
  9. Will be good to finally get an announcement so we can all take sides and move all the circular arguments to the transfer speculation thread.
  10. It's a no from me to Bobby Martinez. Everton's squad is really decent and he's got nothing from them, particularly in defence. Would be terrified how many goals we'd ship.
  11. That's very interesting. Easy to forget how things have changed. Replace Abramovich with Xia and here we are.
  12. Not at all comparable situations. Zingarevich is the feckless son of an oligarch who seemed to think his dad would fund his plaything. When daddy didn't cough up, he did a runner leaving the club up the creek. Dr X has (whatever the exact details) a holding company that owns many companies in part or outright. However much he is actually worth, he's provided proof of the funds to buys us to Lerner, the press and imminently to the FA / Premier league. Not sure there's much more he can, or should, do.
  13. Probably to get it here via various tax havens / shell companies so it's nice and clean avoided tax etc.
  14. Sorry - that was meant to be my point. Tony may well only know because it's been widely reported. Personally I'm not sure Riley is that much of a problem. The individual players we got in were less bad than the sum of their parts if you know what I mean. There was no shape or strategy to the recruitment - not Rileys fault.
  15. A lot of the blame for relegation was placed on last summer's recruitment. It has been widely reported all season. Whether it's the person specifically managing the recruitment ( Riley and team) or the manager deciding the players (Sherwood) most to blame is a matter of much debate. There have also been reports of the scouting team living nowhere near the places they are supposed to scout. tl:dr - he doesn't need much knowledge to bin off Riley.
  16. I do worry that RDM will do a Sherwood. We'll spend shitloads of Dr x's cash but will end up with lots of players but no team. We really have to get the underlying structure right this time and build from a solid spine with players to fit a system. he's not done that before.
  17. They've said it'll be this week, so let's give them a couple of days before manning the barricades.
  18. Seems a bit damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
  19. I'm glad that Yorke and Carver still have their hats in the ring. Gives us a fallback position when everyone else has said no...
  20. Yes. Wrong time for him IMO. (and wrong squad). I think he'll go on to be a good manager.
  21. Moyes wasn't up for it - and if he is fancying going back to Everton it's because he knows the place and sees it as the easier route - sounds like he is shot as a manager and glad he's not coming. Much as I don't fancy Pearson without his team, there is still the fact that he got that team together in the first place so I am coming round to him given the available options. I would have loved us to throw big money at Warburton or Dyche to tempt them here, but given where we are let's just get Pearson done and get on with building for next season.
  22. I was never particularly sold on Moyes and it sounds like he wasn't up for the challenge, which really should be something that excites a manager. so happy for him to be out of the running.
  23. Just trying to keep up here - so we're excited and positive again today, right?
