    A tough start, but pretty much a gimme - if we get anything it'll be a bonus. Much prefer this to a 'must win' home game against teams we will be scrapping with. Make it hard for them, hope they've underestimated us and enjoy being back where we belong. Flip-flopping between worry that we'll getting a thrashing and thinking we can sneak a win - pretty sure the whole season is going to be like this now.

    Do you know what - I'm going to trust Dean and the team's judgement on how Davis is developing. If they thought he wasn't up to being back up, he would be gone. They think he is, so let's see, eh?

    So you're saying there's a chance?.jpg But - 6 players across the front 3 positions, a proper DM to allow Jack and John to get further forward, plus Hourihane in there for set pieces. I think we'll get enough goals even with the odd injury.

    I, for one, will be extremely happy when the window SLAMS shut and we can stop ironic posts about villareport tweets followed by earnest explanations about what villareport does.

    Really hope there is a big fat cherry of a striker to top off the icing of this transfer window added to the cake of our promotion team. (have possibly stretched that metaphor a bit far)

    Now is the time for optimism and hope. Reality will no doubt come and bite at some point, but for now we've done exciting business and done it early enough to give the new squad time to gel. We are pretty much under the radar with little expectation outside of the club. We haven't lost anyone we want to keep - on and off field. Team spirit is strong. Supporters seem to be united behind the team and management for the first time in years. We have committed (and rich) owners. How many other clubs are in this position? Only really City and Liverpool. So, yeah - it's going to be tough come August and might still go horribly wrong, but for the next few weeks at least I'm going to dare to dream that this could be the next stage of something great happening and our club marching back to where we belong among the elite.

    Got so excited by all this that I've popped a few quid on us to beat Spuds. And finish top 10. And win the league. [not anticipating that I will be retiring on these bets]

    Along with Jack, he was the main cornerstone of the team. We are only going to have between 3-5 starters from last season which is going to be hard enough to gel quickly - there is zero chance we'd let McGinn go for any money this window. He will be an integral part of this season - I have absolutely no doubt.

    I agree. Those who were going have gone. Anyone left will be here for depth - there's no realistic way we would be buying a first team and reserves in one window. We've done/are doing a huge amount as it is. + need to keep some excitement for Jan / next summer depending on how everyone beds in and performs.

    Tbh, I'm going to be very disappointed if they are not all done tomorrow. I'm off to Greece for a couple of weeks of sketchy WiFi so wading through 40 pages of fish puns is really going to rustle my jimmies.

    You'd have thought they'd have had time to update the backdrop for the new season and sponsors etc...

    TBF after that we had the money tap turned off, almost went out of business and have been in the championship for 3 years, with severe FFP issues. Not entirely surprising to be breaking it a few times 8 years on when we finally have cash again.
