  1. ... And if benteke carries on like he has for the last few years, netting us a single goal in April? All those good memories and goodwill will soon disappear and that would be a shame.
  2. I don't know, but I'd hazard a guess that Levy will be going for a loan/delayed payment/silly offer as per usual. If they are in need of cash, we might be a financially better deal and overall more attractive to the club, if not the player.
  3. Yes - I'm sure I saw that too. Seems to be getting a little on the tight side now though - do we have till lunchtime tomorrow to get it done?
  4. Saw somewhere that Spurs might be in for Piatek as a Kane replacement. If that's only a loan we might still have a chance if they are desperate for cash, but otherwise I can't see us getting it over the line.
  5. Still sounds as though we are hoping to have a forward in by the weekend, so there must be some action going on that is keeping very quiet. If we are going to get a first choice and a back-up I really hope we get someone exciting before a clogger. I know it doesn't always work that way but the (striker) names touted about so far fill me mostly with depression.
  6. Well to be frank, I do know they are clickbait because there is nothing to suggest that any of it is anything other than a bit of random speculation. 'reportedly offered to' - second hand information and when has a club ever brought in a player they were 'offered'. It's not how it works. 'given the fact that Smith wants a midfielder, a move this month could potentially suit both parties.' - I could write this with as much authority. 'might be an interesting left field swoop this month' - again, just random guessing. I know it's the transfer thread and about speculation, but there's a speculation source blacklist (for new player threads) because of the crap that's out there. Personally I'd prefer transfer speculation to have some foundation from reasonable sources or at least be an obvious personal preference. [rant over]
  7. Dave - all this type of link are just clickbait. Literally nothing of substance - "reportedly offered to" = no interest from us, maybe an agent touting around someone unhappy, probably not even that. Just ignore them.
  8. Uninspired by Drinkwater, but if we have got a decent loan deal I hope he can do a job to replace McGinn for a few months. Smells like an emergency stopgap, rather than a long term one.
  9. This is dire. I'm going to wait till someone is ITSOTP and hope I'm not disappointed.
  10. Really? We are pretty much par for what most people expected for points and have only briefly been in the drop zone. We mostly play pretty decent football, have scored plenty though shipped a few as well. We've been competitive in all but a handful of games. Sure we've been frustratingly inconsistent, but we're a newly promoted, heavily changed team so that's a given. What exactly were you expecting of the season?
  11. We're hardly going to be clearing out when we are so light through long-term injuries. January is not the time for major overhauls - we aren't going to be getting rid and we aren't going to be signing 6+ players. I'd be very surprised if we see more than 3 (at a stretch 4) come in and no-one out apart from juggling some of the loans.
  12. I may be in a minority here, but I'm pretty happy with the season so far. We're outside the relegation zone, with 21 from 21 which is where I hoped we'd be going into the second half (although I would have expected that to have us a couple of places higher). Yes - there are plenty of 'if my aunty had balls' moments from the first half - I'd like VAR not to be f'ing us up so much. Hopfully this will even out over the rest of the season. We are due some to go our way. I'd like us not to throw away leads so regularly and to improve on closing out games. I'd like us not to be crap for 15mins after half time. I'd like us to be able to play against 10 men. I'd like it not to be the most competitive season at the bottom in years. But we are the smallest of margins away from being comfortably mid-table. We all know the stats on teams promoted via the playoffs and the massive rebuilding job that's been done, so this is OK so far. I think Nyland will be OK, Wesley was always likely to drop to back-up in Jan anyway and we know how good McGinn will be when he comes back. I trust that Jan recruitment will be effective. No doubt plenty more squeaky bum time to come, but I think we'll be fine.
  13. Have there been any serious links yet? I see lots of speculation, but nothing that seems realistic yet.
  14. Not massively confidence inspiring. Lansbury and Jota really need to justify the faith. Lot of work for Douglas in this side though.
  15. 5+ needed from these 3. 9 is absolutely achievable. I really hope SJM's niggle is sorted, otherwise I'd give him another week off - better 2 games at full power than 3 more marginal performances. I would give Codger a start and bring Wes on for the final 30.
  16. Unless tomorrow sees some pretty astonishing results, getting to Wembley is going to be highly unlikely. Beating Leicester or the Manchesters over 2 legs is beyond where we are now.
  17. No - too soon for that. Let's see how it looks by the end of Jan. Plenty of scope for movement over the christmas period.
  18. Apparently the same for Zac Goldsmith. "People's" Government, stop being ruled by unelected representatives etc.
  19. Hoever sounds like they don't even care who plays at the back.
  20. Depends on the method of PR. Most common is the Party List (as in EU elections) - each party has a list of candidates ranked in order proposed before the election. As you get enough of the vote you work your way down the list. Voters will know who the major players are so can see who is likely to be elected. If it's Single Transferable Vote, it's a more complicated system It works for (bigger) constituencies. There are usually multiple candidates from the big parties and independents. Voters rank all the candidates and when the top one has enough votes, the rest of the votes for that candidate go to the second choices until a 2nd one has enough votes and so on until the right number of representatives for the area are filled. So as a voter you could rank a LD 1st, a Tory 2nd, Independent 3rd OR LD 1st, LD 2nd, LD 3rd. You end up with a representative set of candidates for each constituency.
