No suprise Bruce took that job. I get it’s his dream job and all that but let’s face it would have jumped ship at any better offer. Steve Bruce cares about Steve Bruce and nothing else. I can’t see anyone saying no to Purslow. He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy you want to get on the wrong side of. Even Smith seemed a bit nervous in the interview when he was sat next to him. He’s normally quite relaxed.

You could argue makelele created the role in its old form and Fernandinho took it to another level. When you do play on the front foot though you will get hit on the break so you that need at energetic midfielder that can track and cover. Its a very important role in the modern game and a position that will cost teams millions. Barcelonna have bought that Dutch lad that is fantastic at it. It’s crucial to how the play.

Didnt Smith mention a few times how much he admires Pep Guardiola’s methods? I absolutely love watching City play. They make the game look so simple but they also work incredibly hard to win the ball back. Smith is signing players that are not just good on the ball but will also put in a shift every game. I think he wants to see a similar style. edit: Problem is we will probably be on the backfoot in a lot of games so will have to adapt.

I don’t know man. I don’t think it was that bad. It’s just if you compare it alongside the top 6 which was the strongest in Europe last season then yes most of the teams looked poor. But I bet if you did a table without the top 6, Huddersfield aside it would be very tight

He met his objective a year ahead of schedule so he definitely needs to be rewarded for it. It’s now time for the second more difficult task of us keeping us up and establishing us in the top flight.

I don’t thimk he will keep Newcastle up. The club is rotten to the core. The way we were for so many years. I think next season will show how much of a remarkable job Rafa managed to do for 2 seasons. Bruce will have them battling to the end though.

So their best bet is Brazilian internationals which he won’t achieve unless he really performances well for us next season. It’s not like Brazil are ever short of top midfielders. Even then it will probably be the year after he would have played enough games to meet the criteria. Reckon we got him for the next 2 years at least. But as I’ve already said. Let’s sign him first!!

No way. Smith has always played 4 at the back. Edit: I guess that doesn’t mean he couldn’t change his approach though. Maybe he likes the look of Wolves and what they achieved.

I think it’s good we are doing this kind of business with City. No harm in having a good working relationship with such a club. Whether we like it not they are the richest club in the world and probably the best at the moment in terms of footballing ability too. They should have won the quadruple really. Edit: In a few years we can think about challenging them!
