It doesn’t matter what his intentions were he was a fraud. If the club had gone bankrupt the Football league should have been made accountable for him passing the fit and proper test in the first place. The guy has nothing and was just spending the clubs money and loans against the clubs assets including against the parachute payments!! The fact that the football league have apparently been lenient towards us since the takeover is probably because they were bricking it for letting him take over the club in the first place.

The bit below is scary...How anyone can forgive Xia, Wyness, Round and even Bruce for putting us in this situation is beyond me. Last July, our Football Club could not make a £4,100,000 bill to HMRC, we were bankrupt. If these two didn’t put £60,000,000 in very quickly, we would have been liquidated. We’d have been Glasgow Rangers, we’d be starting again.

I think the away kit look alright but I wouldn’t buy one unless can get rid of the beer belly. You can tell it will look shit if its baggy.

When we had financial problems and Bruce said he would stick around I think many fans were relieved. We were in a mess and the last thing we needed was more change. Once the takeover happened nobody felt Bruce was the right guy and I think even he knew that he was on borrowed time. Owners didn’t seem to want to sack him without giving him a chance and there was no way (understandably) he was going to resign. In hindsight as soon as the takeover happened he should have been replaced.

You personally are pretty fair and balanced in your view. Some posters seem to defend him like he’s a relative or something and like to constantly point out that those that criticise him on a Steve Bruce thread are ‘obsessed’. Anyway anyone know how the Newcastle fans have reacted to his appointment? If it hasn’t been positive then this is has disaster written all over it. It’s probably the most bizarre appointment since Mcliesh in my opinion.

Dean Smith spoke about the defence and keeper needing to be strengthened many times. He just stated it as a fact rather than an excuse. As for it being a mess, I called it that as the original post I was replying to described it that way. Bruce is not a s**t manager. There is no way for a second he thought he could succeed with one fully fit centre half in the squad. I don’t know how the transfer window was able to close with the defence left in that way. It just doesn’t make sense.

I wouldn’t mind if we were. But with the way the club had done business so far I think if Smith wants a new keeper before the season starts. He will get a new keeper.

That’s because it’s not in Dean Smiths nature to focus on the negatives to make himself look like a hero. He has not once done that since taking over. I bet if the roles were reversed the first thing Bruce would have pointed out to fans was the mess the centre half position was in and how he had to sort it out. Btw I wouldnt say Bruce left a complete mess. That would be fair as he signed some very good attacking players. He just left a defensive mess.

He did leave a mess but we had new owners that seemed to understood the situation and was allowing a new manager time and backing to turn it around. It will be interesting to see if Bruce is given the same level of support.

I considered that too so I looked at a few others in the league. Laporte 1 tackle a game. Maguire 1.3. Kompany 1. Van Dyke 1. Matip 1, Pique 1.2, Godin 1.7 Our man 0.3. I’m not reading anything in to this but it does seem oddly low however you want to look at it.
