Took my cousin to the game today (neutral) and he thought Wesley played well but was massive isolated. Considering support he gets he really did his hit today.

Shit performance but 3 points and that’s what counts right now. 5 point gap over Watford and one point off 17th. We’re not playing well right now but well in the mix to stay up. That’s what counts.

Last 6 games included a draw at old Trafford and a comfortable victory against Newcastle. Since then it’s been dire. We can’t defend without Mings so will concede shit goals. That’s when heads drop and confidence takes a beating.

Would love that but can’t see them letting a player that has featured in 18 games this season leave in Jan when they aren’t able to replace him. Giroud has featured in 7 so if any striker’s allowed to leave it will be him.

It never is when we lose a few games. Hopefully we beat Norwich and he is seen as the next Fernandino again.

I was implying we would cope without Jack Grealish in Championship based on how we did against Liverpool. I got shot down for it, probably rightly so. I still think we won’t get relegated and Smith is the right man for the job. But I agree we need to start seeing improvement or he will run out of time to prove this. Merry Christmas.

TRO respectfully read the whole post and understand the context before you you reply in this way. I was guilty of making a point based on one game against Liverpool. I don’t like it when other fans make points based on one game yet I was guilty of doing it myself and I was saying I shouldn’t have done that.

Not once have I mentioned Smith in any of my posts about Dyche. I just pointed out it took Dyche several years to get Burnley where they are today. So I don’t get how anyone can say we need a manager like Dyche. The same people would want him out if after 6 months.

Yet it took him until the 5th season in charge and second attempt in the top flight before he could keep them up. My original post was in response to somebody who wanted us to employ somebody like Dyche. Even Dyche needed time. I accept he had to do it without a budget like ours and very low expectations but it still took time.

Agree with all this. I didn’t say sticking with Dyche was the right thing for Burnley to do at the time. My point was in response to a poster saying they wanted us to be organised like Burnley. I was merely pointing out Dyche didn’t do it overnight and suffered relegation in the meantime.

Exactly. Dyche wouldn’t have lasted 6 months at this club. As soon as we went 18th the knives would be out. So I find it a hilarious that a fan now wants a manager like Dyche!

Mate you’re the one that said you want a manager like Dyche. I’m just telling you he didn’t make Burnley an organised team over night. It took him several years.

Yes he has a blueprint and it got Burnley relegated initially. If you were a Burnley fan at that time I doubt very much you would be saying it’s ok if we get beaten every week. Dyche has a blueprint so it’s ok. If Dyche took over us now history suggests we’d get relegated too, he needed years to get Burnley playing as they are. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing isn’t it?

Hourihane and El Ghazi’s chances were as good as anything Liverpool created. They won from a F**king backwards header from a corner for f**ks sake. We competed. Anyway I’ve already said my point was I think this team would compete for top 2 in championship without Jack and under Smith. You don’t agree. Let’s leave it there.

You do know Burnley got relegated under Dyche right? If it was down to fans like you Dyche would have been sacked and god know where Burnley would be now.

You know it took Burnley around 6 years including a relegation to be able to play the way they do. It’s a shame Smith is expected to it overnight. Hopefully if he does get sacked there is a manager out there that can do it overnight.

We also missed 2 golden chances ourselves. I don’t like it when people draw conclusions from one game so I admit I shouldn’t be doing it myself. I just find it a joke some fans have now decided we will struggle in the championship.

Yes and I fully expect the same Norwich team which are below us right now to challenge for top 2 in the Championship. Especially considering they already won it! My point wasn’t we are a good team just because we nearly beat Liverpool. I never said that for a second. My point was this team can compete in the bloody Championship! The hyerbole going from Smith can’t cope in this league to this team will not even compete in the championship is ridiculous in my opinion.

The team without Jack Grealish were 5 minutes away from beating the best team in the world right now. This team without Jack would easily challenge for top 2 in the championship under Smith. Hoping it doesn’t need to come to that though.

Well you also said many times last year there’s no chance Smith will get us promoted. So just goes to show how much you know.

Really unfair to compare Smith to Wilder. The latter has had several years to work with his team and on his system with minor tweaks along the way. Smith has had a year and had to build 2 completely new teams in that team whilst adjusting to the highest level. He may not be cut out for it. But writing him off under those circumstances is very unfair in my opinion. I really hope he proves many of you wrong. If we do sack him the next appointment is crucial. Another Garde type situation and we’re truly f**ked.
