It was shit but you could easily twist it in to he had players like Chester, Jedinak, Amavi, Ayew, Kodija, McCormack, Gollini, Westwood. Gabby, Grealish, Elphick, Adomah.
Then he had the luxury of adding Johnston, Lansbury, Hourihane and Hogan in January!
yeah Bruce had an impossible job.
@villalad21 maybe I’m remembering it differently than what it was. Especially as we scored 78 goals. I just remember it to be very flat. Yes we were very sold but if we ever went behind it normally meant we lost the game or scraped a point at best.
Get the f**k out of here. We ended the Bruce season with a whimper. Yes we got to the final but everyone was bored. Villa park hardly sold out once that season. Nobody really expected us to beat Fulham either. It was more hope.
Now compare that to the end of Smiths season. Villa park was bouncing. The football was exciting. We all knew we were going to win that final!
So yes whilst they may have achieved the same goal in getting us to a playoff final. Both managers did it very differently.
edit: You’re just looking at it based on stats and final positions. Football is so much more than that.
I’ve found that when I clasp my hands and continually say no no please god no when the opposition are attacking they tend not to score.
I will keep the Villa up. Don’t worry lads, I’ve got this.
We need at the very least 1 big signing strikers. A centre half and a big signing playmaker to replace Jack and potentially 2 wingers. We probably need another central midfielder too. Perhaps fullback cover, especially the left hand side?
It’s going to be another tough window but not as tough as the first season where we literally had 2 first team players after promotion.
I think at home the fans certainly would have helped us but not sure if we would have managed the 2 points at Everton or Newcastle. I wonder if Luiz’s change in form has been due to less pressure from fans?
He never will be anything special to other fans because he’s an unsung hero. They won’t know how good he is unless they watch all our games!
He won’t make headlines because in current role he won’t be scoring or assisting many. But what he does for the team defensively is priceless.
This is how I remember it. Majority were happy with him having a pre-season and seeing where we went from there. But a few months in to the season fans weren’t convinced. I remember going to the Ipswich game around November and although we win 2-0. The atmosphere was flat and performed matched.
In December we went on a bad run of games and I there were some comments from Bruce. That’s when the fans started to turn. End of Jan Grealish returned and we had a good run of games which led to the Wolves which was a great night. Then we blew it straight after.
So I personally think he had the backing of the majority of fans until around December of his second season. After that many were no longer convinced he was right for us.
Having said all that those shots need to start hitting the top corner if he is going to be world class player. Probably got one last game to do something special.
I guess it’s the side effects, the stigma and the concern of long term impact.
Trying to lose dependancy on it. I’ve always told myself one day I don’t need medication and can be fine without it. So I will have phases where I feel I can stop taking them so I ween off. Several moths pass and I get in a bad state again and have to restart. This has now been going on over 10 years.
Which medication do you take if you don’t mind me asking? Happy to discuss on DM if you prefer.
