  1. Collins & Dunne, whew! Warnock's best game so far imo. Great team performance against a top side. If we are to have Heskey better to get Carew off than all that malarky with the full backs. MON fine today. Ref, least said the better - penalty on Gabby as clear as day.
  2. Superb. And well done rjw63, who stayed right to the end.
  3. Collins is the best Villa signing since... can't remember when.
  4. I don't think the matchday forum is arse when it can throw up the posts I've read on here so far. I agree that last season we got trounced at Stamford Bridge, even if it was only 0-2. I don't think we're looking such a decent away team nor such a poor home team so far this season. Tomorrow we're at home so I'm confident. Although I know that at some point between 12.00 and 12.45 I will either throw my hands to my head and curse MON if he decides to go 4-4-2 or, on the other hand, cheer loudly if it's to be 4-5-1/4-3-3. I just think 4-5-1 suits the players we have at this moment, home, away or on a neutral ground. We got away with 4-4-2 (but only drew) against Man Citeh I think because they didn't exactly pack their midfield either. Though I'll concede that a change to 4-4-2 during the match at small heath did the trick. And now there's another thing - what other in-form striker could we play alongside Gabby in a 4-4-2? And what the **** happens to Gabby anyway when he has to share striker duties? Reo-Coker, Petrov and Sidwell in the engine room would be nice. As with the match against Citeh one point might be OK, but come on, until last season our results against them hadn't been too bad at all. I'll stick my neck out and predict a 2-1 win, though if we do go 4-4-2 from the start I may come back and edit this post.
  5. As pointed out by Rob inthe last-but-one post. You mean you carried on scrolling down and looking to see if there was anything interesting after the b.e.a.n. can? I didn't. 8) or  Oh and Welcome appeplari!
  6. But surely this should have put on this thread, shouldn't it?
  7. Great report and good to read about the crowd and Osbourne.
  8. Some people are saying we've never replaced Barry. Some of these people are also saying Barry and Petrov were too similar. Could Petrov not then be the natural replacement for Barry (short-term)?
  9. Friedel made one quite superb save - a shot he turned over the bar in the 1st half, Dunne outstanding, Collins very good too, Petrov's best match for ages, both defensively and going forward, Gabby very lively and Ashley worked his socks off. Good match, decent ref, MOTM for Citeh Bellamy by some way. The only downside Heskey.
  10. I can think of one person who would probably have voted for him. Oh well...
  11. That's a bit harsh really. You're saying Petrov 'only' has 2 votes when he's up against one of Villa's all-time greats in Barry? The fact he has any votes speaks volumes if anything. Good to know he isn't Judas any more. You don't think times (and people's opinions expressed time and again) change rather quickly do you?
  12. I have to laugh a little when I remember about a year ago when I timidly proffered the opinion that Petrov hadn't been MOTM on one particular occasion and was told accusingly by one poster "You don't like Petrov very much do you?" and I think a visit to Specsavers was recommended. Petrov 2 votes so far. No longer flavour of the month. Was he ever really so good? And has he now fallen so far? I'd say no to both.
  13. All those different Dr Whos have managed it. I once knew a lad called Diego from a small town called Serra who did a doctoral thesis on this, some of which was published in a leading provincial newspaper, unfortunately in Valenciano. He more or less proved it was possible. Mind you, he had several bricks shy of a full hod and lived very close to a psychiatric hospital.
  14. If you knew Cath like I know Cath, you'd want to eat her.I know, oh what a girl. However, you sir have craftily and cynically chosen to ignore the edit I effected shortly after you posted. EDIT: I shall now imitate your current signature and replace my current one with a similar one.
  15. I do not have a cat. Therefore I do not understand why you think I might wish to purchase a device for heating one. Furthermore it is really very simple to go say 2 hours without urinating. I have managed to achieve this every single night of my life since I was under two years old. And you sir? Oh dear, sorry, if I'd known I would never have asked. Are you Tony Adams?
  16. 3-2 win 37073 The football may have been good but that last bit would have brought a wry smile from yours truly back in the day. I used to dream of having a seat (and now everyone gets a seat and prefers to stand up - I laugh). Unfortunately I was too poor. OK I wasn't. I was too tight-fisted. The only times I paid the extra was at dodgy places like Millwall or Man U where standing anywhere remotely near their Neanderthals could have led to an early demise (for some of them).
  17. At Villa Park I have only ever had a piss once. That was in the Witton Lane stand that was there until they built the Doug Ellis stand. In 1989 (the piss that is). Although once when Villa were playing Orient away I had a shit, which was fun as in those days the 3 standing sides of their ground at Brisbane Road boasted a total of ZERO pools to drop the kiddies off at. The story of "What Happened Next" is indeed an unsavoury one. I once also had to curl one off at halftime at Middlesbrough's old ground, Ayresome Park, and then couldn't get out and had to ask a Smoggie for help (He kicked the door in with his Doctor Martens).
  18. I suspected a 4-4-2 with Petrov and Delph in the middle wouldn't work. And it didn't. I hoped the early goal might give us an advantage. But it didn't. On the substitution of Heskey for Delph the less said the better.
  19. What did think when Heskey Came on today? Did think it was surprising today didn't complain about Heskey coming on him, ho ho. Incidentally my own personal feelings - which are probably of no interest to anybody, least of all myself - were of surprise and delight that Guzan hadn't come on.
  20. In fact it seems to have been altogether an unpleasant evening at Mestalla with tales of indelicacies And quite apart from Aimar a disturbing choice by the Argentinians click For those who like myself have difficulty in understanding this particular variety of English, here is the original Spanish: click
  21. Yeah Gijon lost their first 5 games a combined 20-6 but they won their next 4 on the bounce. I just don't think Xerez have that in them. Sporting's problem was that they ran into all the big guns in their first few matches. As for Valencia v Atlético last night, I can only echo what the local Levante EMG newspaper has to say: Fish of Babel translate. Is good.
  22. Yes. About 4 min 40 seconds into this: click
