    City will go through, and hopefully us, but I can't see Arsenal doing it. Bayern are too experienced at this level, and Arteta too naive. I doubt us and City will be enough, if Bayern, Dortmund and Leverkusen all make it.

    We'll still lose players, even if we qualify for CL or not, there will always be bigger teams. United at their absolute peak in 2009 lost Ronaldo to Madrid, Liverpool lost Coutinho to Barca, Spurs lost Bale and Modric to Madrid, Arsenal lost Henry and Fabregas to Barca. All happened while they played CL football regularly. That won't change if we suddenly get CL for a season or two.

    It was very much in Barca and Atletico's hands last night to make the semi-final, but things can change very quickly in knockout European football. It's quite possible both winning the ECL and qualifying for CL happens, likewise neither could happen.

    There is a literally a thread on the Spurs forum where some of their fans don't even want CL football, as they gain nothing from it. Qualify for CL, get eliminated, nothing to show for it, rinse and repeat, and then their owners pocket the extra revenue.

    What long term success have Spurs had? Hosting a Beyonce concert? A Patriots game? I'd say the majority of their fans would trade all that in and CL football to win a few trophies.

    Seems like Arsene Wenger convinced a lot of people that winning the "4th place trophy" is more important than winning actual trophies.

    They could have signed those players anyway without CL, they spent more the season before.

    It might not be now, but it could be in 50 years time and hopefully our name will be the third one written on it. Was the UEFA cup prestigious in 1974 in its third year? Or the European Cup in 1958?

    If we have to sell someone, then so be it, We’ll get by. Unlike before when we sold a player, we have competent people in charge that will improve the team. Emery and Monchi have done it before at Sevilla, they won their first Europa league together, then sold three players that started the final, and went onto to win it again.

    It would mean an English team is guaranteed to be in the final. Whereas Dortmund will have to get past PSG.
