Euro 2024: Group B (Albania, Croatia, Italy, Spain)
duke313 replied to limpid's topic in Other Football
Seems that way. Italy have no real decent wingers to speak of, but have probably two of the best wing backs in Dimarco and Di Lorenzo, should be playing to their strengths. -

They need to ditch the back 4 and go to a 3 at the back with wing backs. Most of their squad play that way for their clubs, particularity the inter players who've just won the league. -
Snap Poll! Who do you want in as the next England Manager?
duke313 replied to maqroll's topic in Other Football
So, the new manager needs to have worked with the players before? That's it settled then, Carsley has worked with Gordon, Palmer, Gallagher, Guehi, Wharton as well as other players who'll be in and around the squad in the future like Branthwaite, Colwill, Ramsey and Quansah. Glad we've agreed on that -

What does that matter? They both managed in and won Serie A, the best league in the world at the time. You've literally just described Gerrard and Lampard and then said you don;y want them -

Joachim Löw had a pretty uninspiring club management career before becoming assistant and then taking over Germany. So it's clear that being a "big name" should not be the only criteria for selecting a manager. Capello was a big name, so was Sven. -
Exactly, you'll be lucky if you got 2 or 3 academy players good enough for the first team squad. Look at Arsenal, Liverpool or City, only a few are good enough the rest are sold.

You don't need a big name to play good football at international level. Look at Spain, ever heard of their coach? Managed in the Spanish lower leagues and then progressed up the Spanish youth teams winning trophies. Carsley would be a great option. -
Isn't that what was always going to happen with the youth academy, exceptional ones will break into the first team the rest will be sold for profit?

Wouldn’t rule it out, surely being in CL improves our chances. Barca want him but they’re broke. -

Williams would be such a signing. Imagine him, Watkins and Bailey under Emery -

Should bring Grealsih on to keep hold of the ball… oh wait. -
I can't see Fulham dropping 40m on an 20 year old striker with a handful of starts. Probably his agent trying to get Chelsea to up their wage offer.
-
No idea why people think we won't. There is 0% chance we're going into a Champions League season with McGinn and Barkley in the pivot

I assume THEY in this context are the fans, who have no control who the club sells or buys.

Why not? Rogers, Nedjelkovic, Sousa and now Iling-Junior and Barrenechea. Seems like we're targeting undervalued young players with high ceilings.

Luiz isn't Grealish, the team is not reliant on one player.

The General FFP /PSR / SCR Financial Regs Thread
duke313 replied to Marka Ragnos's topic in Other Football
Good thread from 2020 on the Pjanic/Arthur deal that saw Juve get docked 15 points Sounds familiar, albeit without the inflated fees. -
Heck and Co must be confident that our revenue is growing to the point this won't be an issue for a long time. And as the team get's better under Emery we will see player sales as some of the first teamers are replaced with better players.

We're basically just trading players that will never play regularly for either club, and getting some PSR wiggle room in the process.
-
I'm surprised these deal haven't happened sooner in PL, but I suppose were only seeing last season teams get punished for PSR with points deductions. So we sell Tim for £9m, goes done as pure profit, and then we buy Dobbins for £9m, and the fee is amortised over 5 years at a cost of roughly £2m a season. So we have essentially **** over PSR without any actual money changing hands. Impressive.

Not sure how the PL could stop it.
