  1. For me this is the most logical tweak to the system. Now that Konsa is back along side Mings, Chambers can play as DM and drop to form a back 3, which means they spread out to cover the two wing backs when they go forward.
  2. It's good to know Archer and Davis are both doing well in the Championship, in case we end up there next season.
  3. All is it will take is a couple of wins and the mood changes again. If we had beat Leeds, drew Newcastle and beat Watford we'd have been sitting on 33 pts with a game in hand. Next 3 games are as crucial as the last 3, we need 6 points from that minimum.
  4. Prepare to be shocked come Saturday. We were all expecting these changes to come into play vs. Watford, and the only change we got was Ings for Watkins.
  5. Not exactly the European push we all thought we’d be.
  6. Then it should be Purslow that gets the boot.
  7. If hypothetically we did go down, where does that leave the NSWE project? I reckon they sell up.
  8. Bench Watkins and Ings, play JJ as the striker. He's shown better composure and link up play than both strikers.
  9. We had most of the possession against Newcastle and Watford, and struggled to break down there low block. Bright should have the majority of possession, so hopefully we can hit them on the break, just need to be more compact in the middle.
  10. Makes zero sense. JJ is at his best when driving forward with the ball (similar to SG himself as a player in that way). Having our best young player sit back and defend at left back is insanity.
  11. Very few teams stick to the same formation every game. You need a plan B, if SG and the team don't have an alternative plan then he's in trouble.
  12. I think for this to work, Cash has to stay back a bit. Digne can go forward and Chambers can fill in.
  13. If results and performances continue as they have, it could turn sour very quickly.
  14. I've thought this as well, traditional 4231 with a double pivot of a holding mid (Chambers) and a more attack minded player (McGinn/Luiz/Sanson). Another performance and result in the next match and I think some fans will start to turn on SG.
  15. I wouldn't mind if we conceded a few goals on the counter if we were scoring 3 or 4 a game.
  16. Selling half the team because of a few bad games is suicide.
  17. It works for Liverpool, they just have world class midfielders.
  18. This actually makes a lot of sense. If we are asking midfielders to cover the full backs, then just play full backs as midfielders.
  19. This could be fixed by replacing Luiz with Chambers until Nakamba is back.
  20. Hopefully SG will know who needs cut and who doesn't. This summer will see a couple of players who've been there a while shipped on.
  21. Seems like we have an overabundance of young box to box type midfielders, which doesn't really fit the current system as they are expected to sit and cover the full backs.
  22. Sounds like he'd be more suited to one of the two CM positions rather than the DM. But he's still young, so perhaps SG see's something different in him.
  23. I'm sure you have a point, but i've no idea what it is with talk of false 9's and Alfredo Di Stefano. Back to DL, he's not the complete midfielder you'd like us to have that can do everything. From what we've seen of him this season, he's not very good at defending even though he's been playing as a DM. And until the transfer window opens again, we can't replace him with a DM that can do everything. So, he should be either dropped completely or paired with a midfielder who is better at breaking up play.
  24. Problem with that is if the changes don't work, fans will be asking why player X Y or Z was dropped.
  25. Has Ings started a match yet since we signed Coutinho?
