I think that's the best case scenario. A short contract extension with a pay rise and a season or even two season loan maybe to a team in Germany or Italy with guaranteed game time. Would help his development and if he established himself become a starter for us or be able to sell him for a decent price.
Carney leaving could have implications for some of the other talented players in the youth academy, if they see no path to the first team they won't hang about.
This is the most likely scenario. I think he's burned his bridges here, so will probably move on to another Premier League club even if Newcastle don't buy him. Any bottom/mid PL club who needs an LB could be in for him.
If he is sold this summer, just make sure a big sell on fee is slapped onto any transfer. If he does go to Germany and makes it big, then at least we'll get some pay off.
The whole Gerrard to Liverpool thing, I think is purely driven by the media. You only have to look at Lampard and Ole to see that club legends don't actually work out that great.
Premier League will have 5 subs from next season, so I would expect some of the young players like TI who are in and around the first team to get more minutes next season coming off the bench and the odd start. But if he isn't getting game time then he can be loaned out to a Championship side.
Hopefully he can follow a similar path to Ramsey and become a starter in a few years.
I release that, they have a world class team, we don't. I'm just pointing out that the setup in midfield and the full-back is what SG is trying to implement here, hence the comparisons to Liverpool.
I don't think you need inside knowledge to know the club won't let a player with resale value run his contract down. It's not looking like he'll sign a new deal, so if he doesn't i'd say it's safe to assume he'll be sold this summer.
I don't believe any of these stories in the media about Coutinho, they are created to generate clicks. The media had him linked with about 5 other clubs when he was about to sign with us in January.
Not saying the links are true, or that he would come. But the Premier League is a massive draw for some players, especially someone his age, it might be his last chance to play in the PL. Also we were in talks with Bentancur, so shows we are capable of at least entering discussions with players of that caliber.
