Probably the the most baffling part of SG team selection is persisting with McGinn. I get he has the 'engine' Gerrard wants from a midfielder, but for Christ sake try something else, give him a rest, rotate the squad, just do something else. I let out a sigh every time the team sheet goes up and it's the same or slightly different midfield three.

Even if he was at one point valued that, the fact he hasn't played will mean we have to take a huge hit on him. If Gerrard wants rid of him, he should have been playing him to put him in the shop window so to speak. Otherwise his valuation will have went off a cliff.

I mean, the midfield definitely needs upgraded, but that isn't going to solve the problem of the front two missing every chance going.

Hopefully the scouting team have other players lined up in case it falls through. I'd like them to have players lined up that we haven't even heard about, other than the usual players linked in the media.

There's not much more we can do though. If we have offered the player a contract, and his demands are met but we aren't his first choice, obviously he isn't going to sign until he know if his first choice are willing to match his terms. If they aren't then we get him, if they do then we move on.

What's the issue with that? I'd be doing the same if I was him. We are probably not his first choice, and his waiting for his first choice to meet his demands.

Maybe Chukwuemeka alongside Buendia instead of Traore? Isn't Konsa injured?

Gerrard does seem to have his favourites'. McGinn for example, not played particularly well, and despite this is never dropped nor even rotated to give other players some game time.

Gerrard at Rangers has played different formations, 4-3-1-2 and 4-2-3-1, although he does prefer the narrow 4-3-3. I do wonder if we had two better midfielders like Phillips and Kamara, would he be more open to a narrow 4-2-3-1. Coutinho-Ramsay-Buendia behind a loan striker. Ramsay being a box to box type.

Archer is actually the reason I want us to sign Suarez, he'd learn massively from him on the training ground and being in the squad.

If Beale is the 'brains' then we're screwed.

It does, and Atletico have a considerably higher wage budget than us. I just don't see why he would pick us over Atletico, unless he absolutely just wants to play in the Premier League. It's the same as the Kessie transfer, we had offered more than Barca, but we chose them.

Hopefully Coutinho signing might convince him to extend his contract, although if he does renew I can see a release clause in there and guarantees he'll be played in his preferred position.

Yeah, i'd like the bulk of the new signing in so they can get a few pre-season games in. Hopefully no transfer sagas that drag on.

It's a good sign that Gerrard wants the signings in before the tour of Oz starts, means no faffing about with transfers dragging on like Smith-Rowe/Ward-Prowse. A proper pre-season in and hoepfully get off to a flying start in the league.
