If we can get to the League Cup final with the squad that finished 17th, we can get to it with this squad. Except now we have a cup specialist manager in charge. Hopefully we can dump the Mancs out on Thursday.

Our best chance to get into Europe this season is to win a cup. I think it will be extremely unlikely we finish top 7 unless we go on an amazing run of form. But the like of West Ham, Leicester and Wolves seems to have stagnated or regressed, Newcastle and Brighton have slipped in there, so you never know.

You're probably right. But if he were to win a cup and gets us into Europe, he'd definitely be on the radar for the top clubs. But getting ahead of myself here, let's just concentrate on this season

In the Marca interview, he said "My goal is not to bring players from Villarreal, it is to bring the concept that we generated at Villarreal. From there if a player fits us and we can do it, we would take the step." But Spurs might be looking to offload Lo Celso when his loan finishes, so possibly we could go in for him in the summer.

Weren't we linked with Raúl de Tomás a while back? Maybe we'll be back in for him, seems the kind of player that would work well in an Emery team.

Emery has always had great goals scorers in the teams he's managed, he mentioned them in the Marca interview, Negredo, Bacca, Soldado, Aduriz, Villa, Cavani, Aubameyang, Gerard Moreno. Can any of us see Watkins or even Ings added to that list? I think he'll give them a chance, but we should be seriously looking at upgrading the striker department in the next few windows.

I’d take that. Martinez to be the hero, De Gea is useless at penalties.

This 100%. Instead of him playing as a single DM, he’s got Donck or Kamara beside him. Two DMs means the more attacking one can join in attacks more often, and not be caught out when we lose possession.

We would never have got Emery last year, as Newcastle discovered. We should have replaced Smith with a better manager than Gerrard, but I don’t think it would have been with someone as good as Emery. It has taken a disappointing 12 months for NSWE to step in and get a truly elite manager.

When he came on against United, the first thing he did was give the ball away. For a team with ambitions for top half and Europe, he’s at best a back up option. If we can get a decent price for him, we’d be mad not taking it.

Just had a look at a Southampton forum, and they are not happy. Pretty much guaranteed relegation now. Us getting Emery is absolutely huge in comparison, even Wolves getting Lopetegui is a far more exciting appointment. I'd be devastated if I was a Southampton fan. We should put a cheeky bid in for Ward-Prowse in January.

It seems that way. I hope he is given a fair chance under Emery, and if he's crap then so be it, we'll ship him off to Turkey for a cut price.
