100%. Either young prospects, or older players like Young. The chance are if we sign a player in his late 20s as a backup, he's not very good. No decent player in his prime is coming to us to sit on the bench. Only teams like City get away with that as they overpay wages and have multiple cup games the players know they will get some games in.

That's the XI i'd go with as well. Would like to see Archer get some significant minutes.

I hope so, it should be clear to UE now that Olsen, Chambers, Augustinsson, McGinn and maybe even Ings should not be starting.

He looks done. We really need a new striker. I think our options in January will be limited. Do we stick it out with Bailey or give Archer a run until the end of the season?

Then he should have been substituted. Instructing the keeper to come rushing halfway up the pitch is not the same as telling the striker to hit the target.

Should be sent out on loan in Jan if he's not going to be used. Maybe he can join Tim at QPR.

It maybe didn't appear that high, but Rashford and Ten Hag both commented on it after the game, and it was something they were focusing on throughout the game. The number of balls United sent over the top, luckily most were offside, but you only get away with that for so many. Emery should have asked Olsen to come out more as sweeper, or else dropped the line deeper. But other than that, I think Emery had the team setup as best he could. -

The setup wasn't bad, except for the high line and lack of sweeper keeper. You're asking for trouble with that combo. -

Certainly not a catastrophe, it's only a loan after all. But we were never going to get another quality left back after signing one for £25m in January. I don't think we signed Ings as a backup, the intention I think was to use both him and Watkins, which we haven't really been able to thus far.

Yep, strange one from Emery. Why did we play with such a high line if the keeper wasn't instructed to come out? Surely playing with such a high line away from home is suicidal unless you are an elite club, we should have sat in a mid or low block and tried to counter them.

He's definitely useful to keep about for another season if he feels he can. He was in the 55-man England list so must be doing something right. His presence in the dressing room is significant I would imagine. Yeah, we'll be lucky if we got rid of 5 of them.

Signing a backup of equal or similar quality to your first choice is near impossible unless you're prepared to pay over the odds in wages like City do. What left-back in his prime and as good as Digne is gonna come here and sit on the bench? Augustinsson clearly isn't good enough, but we probably didn't have many options, it's either that or a youth player who will sit on the bench and wait for his chance or an old-timer looking a few more years at the top like Young.

The unfortunate truth. He'll be moved on in January or Summer at latest. There are quite a few players in the same boat as him.

I don’t think well see a midfield 3, UE likes a double pivot. Ramsey will play on the left or right, or in the attacking strata.
