No one was trying to sell him, don't think there was anyone who actually wants him gone. Just a dose of realism that a World Cup winning keeper might be wanted by other clubs.

Can't some of that be attributed to Gerrad's tactics (or lack of)? How many times did we see him isolated in the middle with no help, whilst McGinn and Ramsey were off covering the full backs and Douglas Luiz in DM with no link to midfield and attack. The system under Gerrard was a complete shambles; it would have made Messi look like Bebe.

I wouldn't say he's much better than Buendia, their stats are quite similar. There is not much to separate them, but for some reason Coutinho is demonized on here, whereas any criticism of Buendia is blasphemous.

Probably the old rumours resurfacing, but Marca have linked us, Wolves, Leeds and Arsenal with Matheus Cunha again. I thought he had practically signed for Wolves. Could see Arsenal getting him on loan with Jesus out.

You made it up. Winning the FA Cup gets you into Europa League.

Olsen clearly isn't good enough, so a new backup keeper in summer should be a priority. Given Emery's tendency to sign players he's worked with before, I can see us going for David Soria whose contract is up in the summer. He was his backup at Sevilla, and played all the Europa League games when they beat Liverpool in the final.

There are only about 10 clubs in the world that could currently afford him, and most of them don't need keepers currently. Our best hope in keeping him is that we price him out of a move from the 2-3 that will need a keeper, in the hope they look for cheaper options. Emi won't kick up a fuss, so we hold all the cards.

Hopefully we've made a start on that with rejecting Arsenal bids for Luiz in January. But we've been stung too many times in the past as Villa fans, once we get something good someone always comes along to take it.

Has anyone seen from other clubs if they expect their players back? Spurs have Romero, United have Lisandro Martinez, Brighton have Mac Allister and City have Alvarez. Be worth keeping an eye on to see if any of them return before Boxing Day.

Even the "elite" lose players to bigger clubs, there is a hierarchy no matter how big your club is. United lost Ronaldo to Real Madrid, Liverpool lost Coutinho to Barcelona, Arsenal lost half a squad to Man City over the years. I want Emi to stay, but if someone comes in for him, and meets our valuation then Emi will go.

Yes, it's not like we've lost players before to bigger, better clubs: Grealish, Delph, Benteke, Young, Downing, Milner, Barry, Yorke, Bosnich.
