People claiming to be “underwhelmed” or that we are “lacking ambition” by this signing need to understand, this is exactly the type of signing Emery makes. His Villarreal team was littered with Premier League rejects. If Emery wants him, I trust his judgment.

We need wide players, as our genius previous manager got rid of them all. He’s similar to Buendia, not much better but will add depth to an area we are lacking depth in.

He won’t improve the team, but is as good as Bailey or Buendia. Will add squad depth to the wide areas which are lacking at the minute (thanks Stevie).

I don’t think it can be even considered a plot twist, as there was no indication at all that he wanted to leave other than the media lies. You only have to look at his social media photos and training pics, to see that he’s happy and settled here with his family.

I’m not sure the standard in MLS is much worse than the likes of Belgium, Serbia, Czech Republic etc. Most might not be able to make the step up from MLS to Prem, but look at Almiron. A lot of young, highly rated South American players have went to MLS recently, Thiago Almada probably the most rated. Might be worth looking at some of them.

Well, Man City we’re in that same scenario in 2008. And Richard Dunne, Stephen Ireland and Darius Vassell didn’t suddenly become word beaters because they might be sold.

I don’t have the answers, hopefully Emery does though. For a start, it would be great to have a striker who doesn’t hit one on ones straight at the keeper.

Why was Cash not starting? I was surprised to see Young in starting XI.

It’s a tough one, he wasn’t too bad today, but don’t think he’ll take us to next level. He’s a mid table Prem striker. We need another option, we can’t just keep playing Watkins every week and expect him to start banging goals in, it’s not going to happen. Watkins can still do a job, but we need something for when he’s not doing it.

That’s my only criticism of him from the game. Should have made a change sooner. We were absolutely hammering Liverpool in around the 70 min mark, a few fresh faces and we might have been able to get an equaliser.
