Yeah, I think we'll get a striker in last minute. Won't be a "big name" signing or someone we'll break the transfer record for. Will likely be a more experienced forward, someone in late 20/early 30s. Someone with a bit of experience that Emery trusts.
I've no issue with Digne, i'd be happy enough to keep him, but also not bothered if he left.
If we can move him to SA, and get someone like Acuna in cheaper wages and more suited to Emeryball. Then it will only benefit us in FFP terms, so can only be a good thing.
He looks solid defensively, more so than Digne. With Mings injured Pau won't be playing LB for the foreseeable. So, we would have Acuna for defensive LB and Moreno for attacking LB
Acuna wouldn't be on that much, probably would be on similar wages as Chambers if he came here. And contract would probably be 2 years with an option of a third.
I can’t find the quote from Emery now. But it was regarding a players age. He said something along the line that modern players can play into their late 30s. It was an issue years ago and he would have been reluctant to sign older players then, but not now.
I can’t imagine this would be an expensive signing, so a moderate fee and 2/3 year contract would be no issue if he’s a player that fits the system.
I think the X number of games is the most likely scenario. If he plays a certain number, it will become an obligation to buy. Probably the best middle ground for both clubs.
Never in the history of football has the 2nd game of a season been a “must win”.
If Philogene ain’t good enough to play against Everton, then we might as well sell him because he’s never going to be good enough for PL.
