You can though, by buying in players who aren't shite. (in hindsight) Thinking that Richardson, Hutton, Bacuna, Clark were all viable options to play in defence was madness. The reason we'll go down is that we needed to have a net spend last summer of £50m due to the penny pinching of previous years. Instead our net spend was relatively low compared to the vast TV money that's on the way for premier league teams next season.

So if we'd have spent twice as much on the same players we'd stay up then? Sherwood bombed out players last season only to think they'd became better over the summer! Letting Cissokho go and keeping Richardson and not getting a new RB or a keeper are the main reasons for me we are where we are. The new players are the better ones but the whole squad seems unfit. I think we will turn the corner but we may be too far back to get out of this.

  2. You can't legislate for bad defending or decision making. We look so fragile at the back its unreal. Confidence is low and unless we get a miracle we are down. If we had a team playing with a bit of belief we'd be fine but we don't and I can't see us getting any as the only way to do that is by going on a run without defeats. I thought we needed 8 more points by New Year that hasn't changed but it's just got a lot harder.

Pretty sure Westwood was top of that stat. Or at least he was when I saw it. Which I think is what you'd expect from a midfield, havig the deeper player running more.

But this just reinforces my belief that the train of thought that Gil doesn't work hard or track back is a myth.

There's a difference between tracking back and defending well once you get there though! If you track back and aren't goal side or busting a gut to get there you may aswell stay up front. I think Richards is right it's about the desire to defend to run that much further than the opposition. Against City we worked hard but you need to do it every game and for 90 min. How stats are judged change all the time the new thing is how many high intensity sprints you do in a game something Klopps sides are renowned for apparently but ultimately you need quality and desire something we've lacked. Time to show both today!!

  4. Richards has said exactly what most of us are thinking. We can't afford to shy away from it. We have to pick up points between now and Jan and its up to this bunch to do it. They need to realise what's necessary to do it. After the performance at Everton it's an ideal time to tell,a few home truths before a game that's must win. I think we have some decent talented players but that's nothing without the application. He also states we need PL exp players in Jan and that playing is better than sitting on a bench somewhere. All things you want your captain to say hopefully to encourage spending and other players to get off their arse and play. If any player takes it personally and wilts they aren't the type we need or want here.

  5. Hopefully Garde's saying he didn't realise how good he was more than not knowing him at all! If he could play left side I'd push Clark to LB but doubt he can. Richards Okore Clark Amavi would be a cracking back 4. Replacing Amavi is the toughest of all.

He was never fit at Liverpool though, it was a very strange signing (I'd imagine by Reilly).

And yet played in all the U21 games in the summer? There is a difference between fit and match fit Okore has been getting fit for weeks but only know just fit enough for the 1st team. Hopefully with a hectic Xmas period coming up we can get every body fit enough for selection

Bolasie and Zaha is not who he shoulf be looking at. they have pace and zero end product. watching them against sunderland and they were definition of headless chicken

Picking the one game that they didn't create isn't the best idea. Both are tricky wingers who work hard for the team but who also pass at times. Traore is very raw but plays with his head down too much. If he has half the impact till the end of the season those 2 do it'll be a cracking start.

I'd like us to try for Matty Phillips from QPR. He is a provider of crosses and would be a good attacking threat down the right.

We need a winger who can cross I wouldn't mind Phillips if the price was decent but doubt it with QPR. It was madness to get a player like Gestede without getting a supply line.

  9. He has something which you can't defend against and that's raw pace. He should be a sub to start and drill into him it's about knowing when to take players on and when to pass. If he learnt that he'd be unplayable at times. Against Palace when he came on he got at the FB time and again and ripped him and actually how Bolaise and Zaha play is exactly who he needs to look at. We need to win games and he can cause havoc so we need to have him in the squad.

  10. If we lost heavily to man city then got a fighting point at Everton would people still be so negative? Garde got us working as a team against Man City then had 3/4 of his team go away on Int duty added into losing his LB. so he has virtually no preparation time against a team who are flying. Amavi's injury is a huge blow as Richardson is awful. I've not watched the game back but they had their best player against our worst and all the danger seemed to come down that side. A recipe for disaster. Also Sanchez has only arrived back the day before so Westwood got the nod which was a big mistake. Watford are more our level and will be a bigger indicator of our chances. Lose and I don't see us but recovering but a win no matter how we manage it can see us just 2 points from safety. Garde has to get a couple of wins from somewhere by Jan and then Lerner needs to get 3/4 players in either permanently or on loan.

  11. After Saturday's result we are all down but if we swapped the last 2 results around we'd be thinking we'd turned a corner and would be confident going into the Watford game. I didn't expect anything out of the last 2 games yet we have 1 point extra  now hopefully the result Saturday  won't affect the little confidence the team has but we have to win on Saturday. If we do I think we'll be 2 points from safety which all of a sudden wouldn't look to bad at all. We have to win though!

Man management won't put the ball in the back of the net. Last season we did have quality up front, really not sure what we have got now!

What we have got is a lot longer to get the points. We started creating as soon as Lambert left and I'm confident the same will happen under Garde. Man City was the 1st time this season the team looked like something nearly all the fans wanted. We have the players. Even under TS we should've got a lot more points than we did but a lot of that was down to his in game decisions so hopefully with that sorted we'll start getting the points we deserve.

I'm not talking Savo type shots that clear the bar by 20 foot or even Guzan getting lucky when the ball went through his legs but went for a corner ... I'm thinking specifically De Bruyne missing an open goal , Sterling hitting Guzan in the face with a header , the crossbar at the end .. on another day all those go in ,hence we rode our luck

as I say we battled and there was a lot of positives but lets not think we've turned a corner and our safety is guaranteed , we still have a long way to go

So that's 3 clear cut chances. One was saved one was off target as it hit the bar the only one I think we got lucky with us the De Bruyne  one as if he connects properly it's a goal. In a game you will normally always get chances especially against a team of their quality and for me riding your luck is a lot more than 2/3 chances in 90 min.

tbf citeh could have won that 4 or 5 nil and on another day probably would have done .

the players battled and did well but Luck certainly played its part

4 or 5 nil? If you class every thing that went towards the goal as a goal then yeah ok but otherwise you are well wide of the mark. It's also hypothetical as you never know what Garde had up his sleeve if we went a goal behind. We kept it tight and would've reacted if the game needed it Garde seems to have more than 1 plan unlike Sherwood. It's surprising how lucky you get when you get the right tactics and work rate into a team. Even if it was all luck we haven't had much go our way this season so far so we deserve a bit.

  15. Richardson is awful he looks clueless as to his positional sense and is so weak one on one it's a joke! I've no idea if Crespo can play there but his other appearances so far haven't filled me with confidence. I'd hope Garde is judging Kinsella but it is now our weakest position. I'd prefer Cissokho and have no idea if he can be recalled. He isn't the best going forward but is a solid defender if he can't be recalled we will need someone in Jan.

They will be allowed them if they move to the back apparently. But this rather defeats the purpose of having them in the first place. Why do other ultra firms (Crystal Palace etc) allow and encourage their stuff at the front of the stands but not us?  As for the law and enforcement, the stuff from the club say they were acting because of complaints from other fans and no one else seemingly.

The club should offer the moaners a move to a more suitable stand, not move the Brigada lot.

We might see an atmosphere then.

As for British fans not embracing the Ultra scene, I believe that to be old man's drivel.

We didn't embrace continental cafe culture until 5 years ago, but it happened.

Why do you need to embrace the ultra scene? Why don't you be original instead of copying a continental thing? Also seeing as Brigada have been going a a couple of years now and don't seem to be doing much I don't think it'll ever catch on.

  17. Garde hasn't banned sauces just like he hasn't banned French! He's looking at their diet. It specifically mentions Pasta which normally comes with a sauce. Thankfully we have a manager who will look at everything to get the players in the best condition to play and I'm sure part of that's keeping them happy so having a bit of ketchup now and again won't be a problem. I wonder what the press will make out he's banned next week? Hopefully it's gabby!!

  18. Richards could turn out to be a lot better than Laursen. He's 27 and could be here for 6/7 years. Laursen played with better players all round so it's hard to compare them just yet if he starts scoring he'll soon become the icon Laursen is.

  19. What I like about Garde is his calmness and he exudes confidence which is exactly what we need regardless of nationality. Pearson is a nut job! Just look at his interviews and his interaction with the fans! I know Leicester are still flying but they were awful until the last 1/3 of the season under him. I think the media just want managers who'll give them column inches like Sherwood and Pearson regardless of ability.

  20. I think he'll give the ball away more as he'll take the more riskier forward passes. I'd play that midfield 3 for a few games now but actually just changing Vetetouts position. Sometimes as a midfielder then as a no10 against the Watfords and lesser teams. We need a consistent selection so people know their jobs.

  21. I've seen a few people mention his pace or lack of it more so but running fast isn't his game. Look at the likes of Silva and that and the last thing you'd mention would be pace! On Sunday he broke from the corner and ran 3/4 the length of the pitch to get to the ball first knock it past his man who tugged him just enough to let Kolarov back to nick it so even though he may not be lightning he isn't a slouch by any means. He is the sort of player that only needs a burst of pace over 5 yards normally which allied to his skill is all he needs. Hopefully he will get his fitness levels up so he can last 90 min at the minute he's done for by 60/65 but is usually one of better players in that time. I think under Garde he'll flourish!

  22. If you watch the video earlier in the thread they sing "stand up if you love Villa" and the Holte follows them...so I disagree about them not initiating chants.

congratulations on the one chant! It's also a song everyone knows and can join in. How many sang supporting your club is not a crime?? Unsurprisingly people tend to join in songs they know. We have loads to chose from why not try singing them more?
