In which case I'd assume there's better, younger players out there that could do that role for £12m. Austin hasn't played regular Championship football for nearly 3 years, in fact the last time he managed 40 appearances was with Burnely in 2012. With Gestede in the squad we need somebody more mobile to play upfront with McCormack just behind. Fortunately, Austin still has 4 years on his Southampton deal with decent wages so he won't be coming here.

He hasnt played Championship football for 3 years? You do realise in one of those years he scored 18 in the Premier League? Austin scores goals simple as that. He went to Saints and got injured it happens. The only reason this medical stuff came out was because David Gold said it. The fact he had hadn't misse a game in the previous 3 years wasn't a juicy headline. I doubt we could get him but if we could he'd be the best striker in the Championship by a mile.

Kozak, Traore, Bunn, Steer, Gardener, Green, Gollini.

all played less than 20 games (i think) all judged, and not saying i haven't judged some of those, just saying.

It's not that simple. Yedlin has 25 games in the PL that's enough for him to be judged on so if RDM thinks he's good enough I'm happy as going off his signings so far he has good eye. Kozak has never been a 1st choice striker so it's hard to judge. Traore and Green haven't played at this level enough and the others have shown they can do a job they just haven't had games for us to prove it yet. Unfortunately we can't afford to give players 20 games to find their feet for us this season so we may lose some along the way.

  3. If his head is right and he is willing to stay and fight he'd be ideal to keep. There's a lot more to come from him. I just hope that if he wants to go we can get him move we don't need people at the club regardless of talent who don't want to fight and be here. That goes for Adama too.

  4. Winning football is entertaining. Attacking football is entertaining. Struggling week in and week out no matter what league isn't. Don't let the last 5 years deflect from where and what we want to be and that's a top Premier League club. Enjoy the Championship for the change it is but let's get back up where we belong and get a team we can be proud of again.

IF he does join Rangers, there is absolutely no chance that his wages will be covered. At the very most, £15-20K could be paid but Villa would have to cover the rest, I am sure of that (of course this is solely based on the thought that Lescott is refusing to take a significant wage drop).

I assume Lescott will have a relegation wage reduction clause so his wages will only be 20-30k now anyway so not much of a drop for him. Hopefully he just wants to play now as he's earnt his money.

RDM called it a goalkeeping error which is how I see it.

He had time to put that kick anywhere, rather than row z he opted for down the pitch in the direction of the forward. I'm sure he won't do it again. I have a nasty feeling we'll be keeper shopping again in January...

Based on what? 2 kicks in 3 games? Did you bother watching the rest of his performances?

  7. It was a defensive mistake with the onus being on the keeper as he was the one who kicked the ball against the man. The defender and the keeper got a bit too close. If Gollini stayed deeper the defender passes the ball back and it's cleared easily. It was a break down in communication compounded by the fact the ball held up a bit therefore giving little space for the clearance. We are a new team and these things will happen. The more the defence plays together the better they'll get. I'd rather the mistakes happened now than in the run in when it'd be be a lot more painful.

Hutton's attitude has been pretty good though even if his ability has not been up to the required standard. Personally I dislike seeing insults like 'human garbage' thrown around for players who's shortcomings relate to their ability rather than attitude.

As Trent said its a myth about his work rate and attitude. He bombs forward and takes forever to get back if his attitude was spot on he'd be breaking his neck to get back in position. He is a very experienced RB that shouldn't need a CB telling him where to be and what to do. Contrast this with Bacuna who even though limited and playing out of position and does need help from Elphick is playing well. We definitely need a new RB and I think Trippier would be brilliant but I reckon it's a smokescreen to put pressure on De Laet but for now it's anybody but Hutton for me!!

  9. Jack showed in the Semi Final against Liverpool he can run games at the highest level but because of this the expectation went through the roof. He is still a novice and like most young players he'll have ups and downs in form. His goal against Rotherham showed his ability and if you look at his career he has scored quite a few similar ones. It's amazing how lucky he gets or is it his ability? I know which one I think it is. Hopefully he can play most games this year and get his confidence up and then he'll be ready to show the PL what he's got!! One thing I've noticed in the games so far is his defensive side it's getting stronger all top players have to defend aswell so that's another promising sign.

Your terms of employment have changed (employer, in this instance - potentially wage) so you need to apply for a new visa on that basis.

This'll be interesting then after our efforts in Jan! Is there a Newcastle fan on the decision board?

Yeah, that's what I said

The defence was organised against Sheffield Wednesdsy. It was organised with last seasons players for the 1st half at Luton where it fell apart was having Okore play LCB Richards move to CB and have Hutton come into the team. Last seasons players are brittle and in a few cases simply not good enough. Luton can turn out to be the best result of the season as it showed the weakness in the squad. You can train players all day but it still comes down to ability. The same players that we knew weren't good enough last year don't get any better because we dropped a division.

    -------------------------Gollini

    Lyden-------Elphick---Chester-----Amavi

    -------------Tshibola-------Westwood----------

    ---McCormack-----Ayew--------Grealish

    ------------------------Gestede---------------------

    Is how i would go.

    What i think will happen.

As above, but Hutton at RB instead of Lyden. McCormack up top instead Gestede, with Bacuna on the right of the front 3.

Whatever the formation, if we can't beat Rotherham at home we may as well throw in the towe

    3-0 win.

Gestede is a carthorse. Unless you play wingers and hit the box at every oppurtunity he's useless. I'd play Lyden or even Bacuna RB just hopefully not Hutton. McCormack and Ayew through the middle for me at the minute. As for the wide men I'm baffled as none have done enough so would probably give Grealish and Green another chance. Jack needs to step up now though no excuses.

There is no gurantee players will gel right away, our defence is still abysmal, we have no central midfiled to speak of and we lack any creativity at all. We still need a massive overhaul and I don't think we will get all the signings we need in time

We still wouldn't be relegated. 6 new signings all starters. Still going to sign 2/3 more players. Even if we can't get permanents in we get to use the loan window which for us will be good being able to get PL cast offs. We'll be a big draw in this respect.

My main concern is that we look like getting relegated again, players like Jedniak and Chester can keep us in this division. We are not going up this year, too many personnell changes need to be made. We need to stay up this year and look at promotion next year

Can you explain how you got to that view? We lost narrowly to a team who will be pushing for promotion away from home with a new team and manager. We are buying players to improve that team. Our latest 2 signings have both been involved in promotion teams actually 3/6 have overall. This division isn't good whilst I'll agree we were beyond awful for an hour at Luton we are more than a match for virtually anyone in this league. We can be crap until Xmas and still make the playoffs that's how wide open this league is. If you have a manager that knows how to gel players it's not a problem look at Watford last year. Get quality in like we have and they'll gel and we'll be fine.

  15. Loads of people have been saying Okore and Elphick are our best partnership without taking into account neither play left side. Luton showed Richards is ok as a RB Okore is ok as RCB but we need a left sided defender so if Baker gets injured we have a replacement. I think Chester will be a starter so that's a bonus as it relegates Baker who has proven he can do a job in this league. 4 CB's is normally the minimum so we are getting there if he signs. We will still need a RB as the current options aren't good enough.

    You are dreaming with that.

The new goalkeeper is dodgy. We don't have a decent right back. We need a central defender, midfielder who can tackle, midfielder who can create and another striker.  That's five before we consider injuries to players which would mean the knobheads return to the team.

Its not just the players - we play a formation that has failed us for five years now but this year stretched it so that full backs have no protection and the central midfield look even more lost.

We are far more away from three signings to even being even even mid table. We haven't won in six months for goodness sake.

The keeper is dodgy? Based on what? one kick? He played well in his only competitive game until a sloppy kick caused a goal but a kick that a decent defence would've covered for him. As for the rest we've all been saying the positions named need sorting. The formation thing is wrong though we've played 442 the last 2 games but we don't have a strong enough CM 2 to do that we'd be better suited playing the 433 we've played for the last few years with the current squad. It's a big 3 weeks coming up but also 2 massive home games. A big win on Saturday will ease a few fears. 6 points before we play Derby will be great for confidence in a team that's shot of it.

  17. We created chances our last 2 games enough to win both so for me we need to prioritise defence. That's means a new RB a new LCB and a new defensive midfielder who can kick a few players. Our current bunch are too nice. We have 3 weeks to do a lot of work. Thankfully we get to use the loan window so all won't be lost if we haven't got 5/6 players in. The DR will have realised last year wasn't a fluke and we have a lot of crap players without the bottle required to play for us.

Does James Chester play left side? Any idea on a right back?

Wouldn't be a fan of this, why is Tony picking out transfer targets? RDM should be the one picking who he wants not our owner.

Where has it been suggested the DR is picking out the transfer targets? All he's said is that the move for the midfield would hopefully be completed by Saturday and Murphy has said its stalled. Anyway if Tone was picking them out he's doing a good job so far!!

He has absolutely no defensive discipline to play at right back (or indeed any defensive position). So often last season he'd bomb forward, lose the ball, and then jog casually back. Leaving huge gaps in defence. It didn't appear to be his mistake, because other defenders were having to run out of position to cover the space he had left. But a lot of our problems were definitely at his door.

This isn't the Hutton thread!!!! I put a defensive RB as I don't want him crossing the half way line. I actually want a brand new RB but I think he's the best of a bad lot.
