Once established, a teacher outside London can earn £58k as a 'leading practitioner', taking on additional duties can add a further £12.5k to that. That's a salary for a very small number of very good very experienced teachers, but as an outside London salary, £70k isn't too scruffy. A head teacher in London can earn up to £114k, which incidentally is more than the Minister of State in charge of Education. You can argue that politicians don't deserve large salaries, but you have to note that a Headmaster can earn more than the guy in charge of headmasters and see that there will always be something odd or unfair about salaries whenever you try and compare them, their responsibility and the qualifications you need to get the job and do the job etc.. It's an endless arguement with the unsatisfactory answer of nobody is ever forced to be a teacher and supply and demand usually dictates price.

Out of interest , What sort of role is it that they require graduates ? teaching the apprentices straight out of school how to spell and read

I organised the first night out of the Student Union back when I was, er, a student. Proper nervous that it would be a success so I started drink early and drinking hard. So much so that I was done before it properly started. I got to the venue absolutely smashed and knew I was going to be ill. For whatever reason (probably drink!), I decided that rather than just chuck in the gents I'd save face and go home so nobody knew I couldn't handle the booze. Got home literally with the mouth full and thinking about it and ready to explode, burst through the front door, leapt up the stairs, kicked open the bathroom door and projectile vomitted in the direction of the toilet. My mum was on the toilet.

It's true we could both improve the BBC service and save money with one simple move - we could stick VTers into these key roles. With all music radio basically run by Xann and dAVe80 there would be an improvement and a saving in wages (I'm quietly confident they'd work 24 hrs a day for the occasional 'cool chewn' tweet or text). Match of the Day could have a more stats driven approach with Leviramsey in charge. Rugeley and Rob could throw something new into the mix on Bakeoff and Tony H could be our Tour De France correspondent combining his love of bikes and the French in a show that would essentially be a feature length episode of Casualty.

Over the last couple of months I've personally asked every member of SFA, face to face, to get back together. Here's the weird thing, all of them go to each others gigs, Daf has a gig, Gruf and Huw turn up. Cian has a gig and Daf turns up etc.. But not one of them will express an opinion on getting back together. You mention the subject and they are polite and thankful that you like the band. They make noises like they're kinda considering it. But they never say anything that suggests it could or couldn't happen.

I'm not convinced VT is left wing, I think there are the usual proportion of gobby lefties that love the sound of their own keyboard. There are slightly less outwardly tory types as they know the politics of greed and spite don't read well under analysis. But both sides are probably in single figures. Then there are the vast majority of VT posters that stay well clear of the politics bits.

My comment that Islamic leaders should speak out again (I was aware of the responses from British Muslims so far, and they're not being covered as widely as they should)(sd) was less for my own armchair warrior gratification and more to prevent totally cretinous comments like "they more interested in how KFC kill there chickens mate". My comment wasn't aimed at any one post, hence the lack of quotes, it was more a general comment on people demanding proof of others allegiances. It's a nonsense unsustainable approach to life. I wouldn't demand our school kids protest against american school shootings, I wouldn't demand anybody looking bit black african protests against anti arab ethnic cleansing in Darfur. I wouldn't demand all orthodox christians from Poland living here protest against Russian aggression in Ukraine.

I demand that people that look a bit like the baddies protest against the baddies in a way that attracts media attention that way I can sit on my half informed arse, watch the news and feel safe that the ones around here that look like baddies aren't going to hurt me this media coverage needs to be on BBC1 because the remote control is over there so my in depth research on the subject is limited however, I must just point out that at no point will I personally be out street protesting for the infotainment of others, against the shit that people perceived to be a bit like me do
