  1. So Chrisp65 would you support this mansion tax that red ed is always harping on about? I don't know the specifics of his planned tax, you'll have to forgive me I'm a lapsed Labour supporter. But I wholeheartedly support the idea of the rich paying more than the poor. Be that cash rich, or property rich, or land rich or whatever. For clarity, I don't mean somebody with £10 to their name should pay £1 tax and somebody with £1,000,000 to their name should pay £2 tax. I mean somebody with a million can live perfectly well after being taxed exponentially more than the poor guy.
  2. If he did it BECAUSE he was a muslim and they were atheists, that would rightly be a big deal. It would fit into a larger narrative. Today's version of reds under the bed. You have to see that there is quite some recent history here, there is form, and people are easily panicked. Where people are easily panicked or scared there are newspapers to sell. Now, if you could prove there was a coherent cause that white atheist nutters were beginning to rally behind and they were using the media to spread and grow their murderous cause then that would be a much bigger deal. When atheists pose by their murdered religious victims for social media fame, then there is a parity. One guy 6,000 miles away with no known or declared 'cause' at this point is absolutely not the equal of the Lee Rigby story. I'm not saying that is right. I'm saying the media has limited space and needs clicks and sales. If these marches in Germany began to lead to a pattern of murders then there would be massive focus on them. You'd also see people travelling across europe to show their opposition to it. When needed good people care and take action. I don't believe, from my ivory tower, that tipping point has been reached.
  3. USA has a murder rate of about 150,000 per annum if even 1% of those was reported over here, 4 per day, that would take up a lot of news print If we did, then I guess we'd quite rightly have to give equal coverage to other countries too, not just those perceived as 'white' and all of a sudden it's patently not possible to report on every murder or serious crime where there is a possibility of 'hate crime' against religion, colour, spoken language, sexual orientation, disability, ethnic origin... But I do get the basic point (I think) you're making and its a valid one. People believe what a selective media tells them.
  4. I'd like to think that if / when he watches the 'highlights' of the game to find out what the score was, some time later in the week, after a long breakfast, after horse riding or buying a boat, he'll be so upset that we lost that he'll endeavour to form a think tank to decide whether to form a committee to consider commissioning a talent scout to advise on interviews for the position of assistant manager. Then, fully satisfied he has acted as supreme dynamic leader of Aston Villa Soccer Franchise, he will set his mind back to the pressing matters of the day, to what shape is the best shape for paper airplanes.
  5. put him out of his misery between now and the end of the season, I'll do the managing on a conference call from here my tactics will be simple enough for players to follow: you guys with low numbers on your shirts, try to stop the other team scoring and pass the ball to the players with high numbers on their shirts you guys with high numbers on your shirts, shoot at the other team's goal when you get the opportunity IF after 4 games my stats are worse than Lamberts, I will step down and buy everyone a pie
  6. Has anybody sat Randy Lerner down and calmly explained that relegation is not just a catchy song by Roy Castle?
  7. I'd love that if it happens! I've cocked up and working this evening, Gruff is playing down the road. I'm putting 2+2 = 7 here, but there'll be 4 of SFA on stage not 3, the original lead singer was Rhys Ifans.
  8. I finish at 5pm (officially) Try never to answer a call after 3pm. Just to be safe. My phone is paid for by the company, the theory being that I'm always on call. I get a free smart phone and all the twitter and flickr I can handle. They get access out of hours. That I've disabled voicemail and have the ringer permanently on silent is irrelevant.
  9. Hence UKIP, the Greens and other similar fringe nutters.
  10. Alabama 3 The Earth Daf, Cian and Bunf (SFA) John Cooper Clarke Don Letts Cerys Mattehws Rhys Ifans (Y Pedd) I think I just did a little wee. Rumours getting stronger of a Super Furry reunion at some point (Manics gig possibly) and now 3 of them will be on stage at the same time....
  11. turn it off, turn it on - don't forget to fill in the on line customer satisfaction survey, thanks, byeeeee click 5:29

  13. I'm not going to mention that I thought they were before and after of the same person. Nope, I'll keep that to myself and just nod sagely as the conversation goes on.
  14. I know this is going over old ground. But I don't know who the woman in those pictures is... (really, somebody give me a name or a clue)
  15. Is a Cleveland Blumpkin a thing? Can that be done. Ah, the irony of Voinjama having left just before poop went hip.
  16. Sadly if its not reported on bbc/sky news or not in The Sun, joe public in this country wont even know about it. There have been marches all around the world condemning isis, muslim scholars, leaders of mosques and world leaders have all condemned it. Even al-qeada have called them barbaric. As for marching against the french magazine everyone who is offended by it has a right to express their feelings. It may seem like a funny cartoon to some people but to a muslim its offensive. Theres alot of double standards, a french magazine (not sure if the same one) drew cartoons about the israel/gaza mass murder and were asked to remove it which they did. Genuine question, but what's more offensive, mocking the prophet or the sort of killings that ISIS carry out? Should we only protest against the very worst of humanity, and work in a linear fashion? Once we've stopped barbaric murder only then can we move on to domestic violence, only then animal cruelty, tax evasion, mean cartoons... Incidentally, that's pretty much the order of priority I'd put it in. But real life isn't either / or. Killing of any description is always offensive. White europeans are currently bombing hospitals and bus stops in Ukraine. I've done **** all about it. I have signed a petition about the local swimming pool.
  17. Proper filth hidden behind an innocuously innocent sounding word(s) is best. Cleveland Steamers has been the name of my VT listed fantasy team for the last few years I've got a copy of an old poster somewhere for the Clevedon Steamer that ran from here for a while. Makes me laugh every time. Anything they can do, we can do slightly shitter, as it were.
  18. Both appear to be in good nick, adding the cost of a carrier bag tipped me over the £10 I know absolutely nothing of Tanya Tucker, just saw it had 'Would You Lay With Me' on it. An afternoon in work youtubing what I just bought, an evening at the footy, then we'll see what they sound like.
  19. Honestly never even heard of it. How far would you go to get a copy?
  20. The Muppets (2012) is pretty damn fine Stardust (2007) Enchanted (2007) and Little Shop of Horrors*, Blues Brothers, Muppets Christmas some good musicals out there even Les Mis if you're that way inclined * We had a guy in our office called Seymour and he was quite slow at everything, even walking. Suddenly Seymour became an office standard everyone knew.
  21. The butler will offer a spare tie we keep at the door, so as to be properly dressed and avoid everyone's embarrassment. We usually find that by the end of the soup course and a fine dry Olorossa sherry, even the roughest of diamonds has stopped pocketing the bread rolls and shiny spoons.
  22. can't disagree with any of them, though I haven't spotted any toilet fumblers I had the misfortune recently of having to use the train more often than not for a couple of weeks and I'd say that of 7 or 8 journeys 4 or 5 were late or cancelled. By late, I mean properly 20 or 30 minutes late note 90 seconds. The odd thing is, I bet when the stats are issued they'll show 98.7% reliability. I've often wondered if I just have a gift for selecting the 1.3% of trains that stop for suicides, piracy, cable theft, dickheads jogging on the line and deer rampage.
  23. 'standard' also appears to have lost its value in a similar way nobody wants the 'standard' amount or brand anymore
