I was persuaded to go along to a St David's Day parade today, first time I've ever gone along. Not really my thing, I do like a nice fancy flag but I'm not really strongly into that thing that creeps into 'pride' in an accident of birth or a nationality.
I have to hold my hand up and say I enjoyed it, I only went for the tea and cake at the end, but I'd definitely go again next year. Not least, because as much as it was 'welsh' it was actually lots of folk from all over just having a jolly time. From Nepal, Poland, Philippines, France, Turkey, Scotland and Patagonia etc., plus a Samba band and two hippies with a bike that pumped out bubbles. Not a hint of that UKIP / EDL style nationalism I'd always presumed went hand in hand with people marching down a street.
It can go in the diary for next year.
