  1. by weird coincidence, we've got visitors coming next weekend and we've promised them a visit here... ....but it won't be as good as an old school Mr Whippy 99
  2. what does the big 'W' stand for? (like we don't all know)
  3. vat on sanitary towels is much worse than inheritance tax
  4. I'm going to have a celebratory wank every time between now and the election that a politician of any party answers any direct question with the line: 'we've been very clear on this....' and then waffles a none answer. It's definitely the new way to answer questions that they've been coached in. It's going to be a bigger thing than 'not pointing' by pointing with a turned in thumb. I'm interested in politics and right now they are all doing a very neat job of turning me right off voting. Clever clever people.
  5. I can report that our local paperboy is actually a girl and by my estimates (I didn't feel I could stare for too long), early teens. I can also report the bag / satchel thing for carrying papers was light blue reflective material in the best tradition of elf n safety. As Bickster has suggested, the same disease that appears to have wiped out paperchildren has also devastated imperial measurement milk distribution specialists
  6. that there are still people out there that think slowing down to 50 at the average speed cameras will be fine I gave them a little thumbs up to cheer them on their way as they accelerated away again...
  7. Not particularly interested in a team GB, happy to sit this one out and happy for england to stick a team in under that name if they feel they have players (and managers) that would like the extra games when they moan about existing friendlies and qualifiers.... Anybody that thinks a team GB wouldn't add to the African nations claiming 'we' should only ever be a team GB is fooling themselves. Not worth the risk.
  8. he truly is a lying snake oil salesman and you are so right, it's a way of making money so it's seen as acceptable yes it's an old story, no less bad for that, no less shameful there really are some despicable people at the top of politics
  9. I was a sticker upper at a skittle alley in a Working Men's Club. Getting there involved walking across a working dock, and then later, back again (in the dark!). My wage, was one lemonade, one packet of crisps and 5p per player which I had to go around and collect myself. From age 15, my wage was lifted to 1 pint of bitter, 1 pack of crisps, 5p per player. One day still aged 15 I attended said 'club' when there wasn't a match on with the sole porpoise of having a beer. The barman gave me my beer but made me sit in the TV lounge out of sight. 10 minutes later my headmaster (also a JP and coincidentally, called Mr Beer!) walked in, saw me supping a pint, and reversed out and never ever spoke of it. Times were different back then.
  10. Am I correct in assuming that this decree was handed down by Materfamilias? As a family unit we run a sort of People's Republican Jamahiriya if you will. With certain specialisms delegated to certain individuals with associated sweeping powers. Remembering family diary dates and understanding the basics of family politics is an area I have absented myself from and thus yes, it has become the role of the materfamilias. But not as a sexist default. As a necessity due to my utter lack of interest in any relative on either side of the family that isn't in my top 4 favourite people on the planet. Conveniently, this entire top 4 all live in my house. So I'm happy to do the kids Christmas prezzies shopping etc without prompting. The progeny of a brother in law can go **** themselves as far as I'm concerned. In a nice way, obviously.
  11. Dark arts. I realised I was way out of my depth when I queried why we were buying a baby a Peter Rabbit porcelain breakfast bowl and cup with silver spoon. By my logic, no fool would let a baby use a porcelain bowl. Correct, it will be 'put away for them'. But no older child will want to drink from a Peter Rabbit cup? Correct, 'it will be put away for them until they are 18 or leave home'. Well what the merry **** is an 18 year old bloke moving house going to do with a Peter Rabbit bowl? It was made clear to me this was not up for discussion and we were indeed spending £30 on unusable shite that would be stored out of sight for an unknown number of years.
  12. Personally, I'd like them to give Poyet a few more weeks.
  13. sorry to hear that,it's never easy but the best thing to do now is get drunk and do her mom DHMUTWU that'll make Mother's Day
  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS5bxk89gQg
  15. £3.25 flowers - yellow roses from M&S £12 M&S perfume £1.50 card total of £16.75 leaving me, by this measure, with £83.25 to spend on myself.
  16. '..never invest love or faith in any owner of any description, the best ones can simply be ignored, the worst ones tend to be rapists, fraudsters and egomaniacs. Owners are the necessary evil prior to financial disaster and resultant fan ownership..' Karl Marx, When Saturday Comes Almanac, July 1879
  17. Yeah its only the first race so plenty can happen yet, but it doesn't bode well for competition when Lewis can actually play a game of not only being in the lead, but deciding how much of a lead he wanted to have. Perhaps if they had to run to the cars and start them up...
  18. Child labour, as in distressing pictures of kids 'slaving' is rare in the UK, but not 100% gone. Kids with Saturday jobs is still around but as mentioned above by OBE its so much of a grief many don't bother. Where once I'd have got a job in a cafe aged 15 for pocket money, no sane manager would let a child near the steamy coffee making machine. Yet back in my day, I'd spend many a sunny afternoon in Terry's Cafe hunting and capturing live wasps which we then put in the microwave with hilarious results! Italy appears to have a growing problem due to the economic downturn, it's estimated 5% of kids in Naples are being used as cheap child labour - in the bad sense of the word.
  19. This sounds like an incredible story. potentially ridiculously offensive post removed!
  20. ok so he's go the money and the cars, but is he happy?
  21. My name occurs on the UK census approx 100 times in the last 175 years and has no obvious meaning. other than a suggestion its a variation on St Paul. Personally, a suspicious lack of relatives and back story leads me to think my parents were relocated on some sort of witness protection programme.
  22. having issued a letter to all the 'staff' and civil servants that it would be an offence to leak any detail before the budget day presentation in parliament really has the feeling of being an election budget
