  1. rjw post elsewhere just reminded me I met John Barrowman with my nipper who knew him as a Dr Who character Barrowman couldn't have been nicer, to the point where he found out we lived close to him and invited us around and posed for photo's and wrote my nipper a little personalised card and was all hugs and laughs, hamming it up and bursting into theatrics. He struck me as somebody that was either the nicest person on the planet or somebody that was really good on cocaine.
  2. this 'friend', just get him to shower and join some dating sites, you'll be fine.
  3. oh, a little tip for you from the voice of experience. If you've been sick in the bedding, don't just bundle it up and push it into the washing machine. What you end up with is sheets covered in clean chunks.
  4. I've noticed a new variation at Newport, where we appear to have a retro thing going on with people using a dictaphone to record the sound of a train. I don't know if that says more about trainspotters or Newport.
  5. My dad loves Queen and followed them on their tour of UK Castles. When Brian May did his solo tour (which was basically a guitar solo version of Bohemian Rhapsody and that **** Ford advert done start of show, mid show and as the encore), he made me tag along. Evening couldn't have been worse, he insisted we went by train so he could have a pint, train was delayed. We marched into a pub and before we got to the bar it was patently a gay bar, now I have to walk back out of a gay bar with a man 20 years my senior. The gig was in an ice rink that had all the acoustic properties of the metal shed it actually was. It's why he had to die. Nobody would convict me on that.
  6. Late 1970's me and a mate sneeked in to see Abba the Movie. We didn't sneek in because we were under age or any of that, we just knew how desperately uncool it was - but had to see it. Getting out after the movie was good practise for a couple of years later when, having gone into a sex shop, I had to negotiate that nervy walk back out onto the street.
  7. I've always found the Morning Star to be the only neutral 'paper.

    Damp Advice

well 14 years without a problem was a new nugget of info! if nothing has changed in what you are doing and it's just appeared then perhaps there has been a change within the wall or roof? Insulation has moved or a tile has slipped or the rainwater gutter is overflowing. Any guttering close to where its now damp? (ps I'm no expert! but I've had a few damp patches in my time)
  10. I'd punt : Yes onesie No parents Yes Beatles

    Damp Advice

if its a room that generates moisture (bathroom / kitchen) it could be a ventilation issue first if you've got one wall colder than others, moisture will rest there, sometimes a sloping wall / roof means tight space and less insulation there than in the main attic space so often a sloping wall in a bathroom is classic condensation, unless there is an obvious 'patch' that looks like a water stain which would suggest a leak, I'd go with Mrs S's idea
  12. minor regional celebrity Owen Money was somebody I'd never met but really disliked then one day he got in touch about a fundraiser we were having and volunteered as much or as little of his time and contacts as we wanted long story short, he quadrupled the money raised and wouldn't even take petrol money off us, absolute hero met an absolute heor at a Villa thing, Jimmy Rimmer. Ended up sat next to him at dinner and he was everything I'd wanted him to be, charming, chatty and all the time in the world for people old enough to know better Just to say, most celebs are humans and can have good days and bad days, you start taking secret smart phone pics of some C lister in Tesco buying fish, you might not see the best side of their personality.
  13. you do all know the Beatles were faked yeah? mocked up by NASA that's why they had to disappear the first drummer
  14. just bagged the kids some tickets for a screening of the episode at the 50th Convention, so they'll be surrounded by daleks and what not whilst they watch! got the tickets before they sold out, their friend didn't get a ticket in time - my big chance to be the hero and hand my ticket over to a kid with no ticket! remember when they used to do that on the telly outside Wembley on final day?
  15. I have trouble co-ordinating a drive into London with the timing of the congestion charge!
  16. you can do one I did tambourine as part of my NVQ in interneting
  17. that's a good question and perhaps throws a little light on the first 7 or 8 pages The Beatles are good, the later stuff is perfectly listenable - but they wouldn't get on my desert island discs list. Agree with Waterloo Sunset btw, now that was a crafted piece of work from craftsmen. The Beatles were competent with lucky timing and good PR.
  18. what's to be serious about? Platonic is platonic, if there is no sexual buzz, allure, feeling or whatever then that's just fine. It is what it is, just another human you know and potentially get along with. If you play along pretending it's platonic in the hope one day she'll realise she needs your hand down her blouse, then you are wasting everyone's leisure time.
  19. nah, the lefty guitar thing I understand, people do struggle that can't get hold of a lefty guitar drums? a series of symmetrical independent objects you place in an order that suits you and your style BUT!!! all this is utterly irrelevant because this wonderful subject has caused me to find a box set release for the Small Faces that's coming out in January I've got a few records and cd's around the place, by a country mile the largest collection is Small Faces, it'll be just plain essential to get the new stuff (price is a bit ouch, but that's what plastic is for)
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rLF-QAS67I bit of a box set coming out in January
  21. move the hat to the other side? anyway, it's a digression personally, I prefer The Small Faces, but I can see the debt they owe, but I still prefer them but it's all gravy, good music is good music
