  1. Yesterday, I worked from home and so did my missus. This morning, I'm full of strong coffee and jammy toast. Now I'm going swimming. Life is not always shit. Once again, I've decided to leave that slightly ambiguous first sentence.
  2. You mean people don't travel from miles around to go to the Afan Lido anymore? you couldn't possibly site a power station down wind of the greatest outdoor public swimming pool Port Talbot has ever known... it burnt down about 4 or 5 years ago fair play, I hadn't realised you could burn down a swimming pool
  3. in what was nearly a very embarassing turn of events, I clicked on that, watched it and thought...that'd be good for VT, copied the link.....then realised I'd done a complete circuit around my fish bowl
  4. I was involved in a scheme to almost literally burn shit down at Port Talbot. The scheme involved building a mini power station on already contaminated land freed up when British Steel shrunk away. The site has a dedicated harbour but is completely surrounded on the land side by the Tata Steel Plant. The power station was to provide power for Tata, not necessarily the cheapest in the short term, but consistent and under their control and thus supplying when it was needed. Stating the obvs, it would create some jobs but critically it would help maintain the Tata Steel jobs. So, to recap, a new build project on contaminated land that was surrounded by a steel factory, providing new jobs producing energy to ensure existing jobs and exports. Neath Port Talbot Planners, with the support of the residents of Port Talbot rejected the plan on the grounds it could be to the detriment of any as yet unknown future leisure developments. Never has there been such a self fulfilling prophecy because with that standard of planning soon the only thing there will be bingo.
  5. there are regular attempts to harness the Severn - but we can't do that because of the birdies apparently off shore wind farms might confuse porpoises on shore wind farms upset idiots that think the current landscape is 'natural' lord forbid we burn wood chip can't burn our own rubbish locally with town sized energy stations, the power station will look bad and be built on a field and might make smoke coal, obviously, is now suspected of killing everyone and causing Jimmy Saville fracking will apparently cause another Pompei perhaps, just perhaps, we have to look at using less energy if we clearly don't want to produce more energy
  6. *brakes* Shirley it's a spilling error, not a granma error? but yeah, 'my badness'
  7. I believe Ed expects to be in office on May 8th 2015 .. get stock piling those tyres ..should have a cheap surplus of them in SA now Winnie has gone straight I believe the hlaf time electricity spike during next year's FA Cup Final (Red Bull Villa 4: Man City 0), will be the tipping point.
  8. I was listening to that and presumed at some time he'd explain what G.I.T.S. stood for, but no, fair play to him gits were rich people expressing concern for poor people in generalised terms at a rich person's jolly.
  9. the energy debate is going nowhere until we have the first evening without television for the masses the next day we'll be burning old tyres in town centres and meadows if we can make it produce electricity
  10. my monarchy thread got closed down because people had strong views, just sayin' loik
  11. . Simply not true.Labor did shut many pits' you are right about that. But it was done in a carefully managed way , with full consultation with the NUM. Heavy investment was put into the remaining pits, so that within a few years Britain had the most efficient deep mined coal in the world. We were actually self sufficient with the coal stocks we had, the only way foreign coal could compete was by importing from countries that either paid their miners a pittance ie Poland and China, or was mined cheaply by strip mining from opencast mines, the most environmentally destructive. Germany always took the attitude that coal mining was a strategic industry and so warranted subsidies to support it, that's why coal mining still exists on a fairly substantial scale there. We still have enough coal stocks under our feet in this country to last 400 years. Tory industrial vandalism means that unfortunately it will stay there. ...and I don't really have a tin bath either...

  15. I'll have to dig it out and dust it down, but in the attic I've got a photo (sepia, watercoloured touched up) in a big heavy frame of my great grandad in full uniform stood next to his little tent out in the field and all the battles & major events of the Boer War where he was present written around the sides. My old man was going to chuck it out!
  16. though strangely, the homogays don't all live up tornado alley, so to speak
  17. that's the first thing I've ever won! hopefully it's wholesome welsh coal not that dirty inferior northern stuff that spits embers onto your hearth rug, or worse still, back into the tin bath - on bath night
  18. that the Toyota Yaris driver doing 25mph in a 40 zone was obviously going to hit the breaks once she eventually noticed the giant day glo yellow speed camera just like a sort of 'like' system there should be a sort of 'stay home' points system for drivers, your number plate gets 'x' number of clearing in the woods votes and you serve a mini ban or get some lessons
  19. yeah it's the Mail so no great shock but hey we get links to the Mirror as impartial proof so heck why not it's a Daily Mail link so I won't click it and endorse what will most likely be a page full of pap photo's of female D list celebs with female children - a particularly 'odd' paper the Mail but I'm guessing this is the article talked about on the news today that has anonymous civil servants and un named business people saying they've heard that people have been told that businesses might leave for France or bongo bongo if we have the nerve / cheek / stupidity to vote Labour a journalistic triumph
