  1. I agree with you that he was doing well, especially against Traore, but that lack of conviction in the challenge is what he will be remembered for today. However, I do not blame him at all for that goal. I am pretty sure he was on a yellow card already and had to be careful not to foul otherwise he'd have probably been sent off. For me, there were two others that were more responsible for that goal - Luiz for not taking Traore out on the wing and, Konsa for not being closer to Jimenez when he got his shot away.
  2. He's gonna feel right at home in yam yam land with a name like Wesley so he's going to score today!
  3. I have to admit that Wes does need to produce more than he is. However, I think he's still young enough and new enough to the club/league/country that he will make it into a player that we all think he can/should be.
  4. Bruce or Smith? Wow! With Bruce we would have played totally defensively yesterday and got beaten comfortably whilst trying to sneak a goal from a set piece and everyone gone home saying "well, only got what I expected". Yesterday, people would have watched a Villa team that tried to beat the Champions elect and felt gutted at losing the game. I would prefer Smith over Bruce any day!
  5. Well maybe when we get to the point where we spend 20-30 million on our players instead of average 10 or 11 million we might get that quality it player that doesn't tire in the last half hour.
  6. What a crazy comparison. Real Madrid didn't need to spend as much as us because they already have a squad worth hundreds of millions.
  7. Spot on mate! You know something, I actually think that we are getting better and better with each passing game. We created chances against Man City and Liverpool. We should have scored more than one in each of those games. We are now moving on to easier opponents and we may just see the better results we all crave. Trezeguet looks more improved. El Ghazi looks faster, Grealish too. Engels and Mings look solid. We now have a left back that can play. Nakamba looks like the midfield enforcer we've sought for a long time. There is a lot to like about the Villa right now.
  8. Alexander-Arnold is great going forward and basically plays as a winger. Defensively he's not quite the same level though.
  9. Pulled off some great saves today but, does anyone else think that he could maybe have gotten closer to Robertson for that header? He's headed that from about 5 yards and the cross came over from the opposite side so surely he had time to get over to that ball.
  10. Some of the defending was desperate and absolutely invited pressure but, we were playing the current Champions of Europe who scored the most goals in the league last season, haven't lost for over 40 games and whose goalkeeper cost more than half our team put together. It's mind-boggling what people expect, it really is.
  11. Luiz was the worst of our midfielders today. However, I too would have left him out there as he's more athletic than Hourihane.
  12. He scored a great goal, worked his socks off and, what a pass to Hourihane who, should have done better with his cross.
  13. Our goal was on-side and there's was off. Why are so many debating that? VAR has been shite at times this season but at least it's not today, so far.
  14. I quite like that, a lot more so than the actual third shirt. However, those droplets look like acid rain!
  15. Outstanding today. Brilliant, brilliant talent and we're lucky to have him. No doubt, one day, he will leave to chase trophies to add to his legacy. Most important fact today - he has pace! Tracked back brilliantly against Sterling and that cheating little twunt dived and got him booked.
  16. I thought that Davis did more today in his short time on the pitch than Wesley did in the whole game.
  17. He made the most tackles/interceptions in the game. Cut some slack.
  18. Covered the most distance today - 12.3km. Guess that eradicates the theory that he's not fit enough for this league.
  19. Absolutely this ^^ We break too slowly and allow our opponents to get back behind the ball. It's something we need to learn.
  20. I think he will become a good player for us. He's not the finished article and came here from a much easier league/country to play in. He's got loads of time on his side and I think that he will be fine. Wasn't it Trez who played the ball out wide to Jack in the build up to the winning goal on Saturday?
  21. When was the last time a left back scored from open play for Villa in a league game? Also, when was the last time both full backs were involved in all our goals in a league game?
  22. Can't argue with this point. Either one of Hourihane (or whoever else plays) or McGinn needs to stay put when the other bombs forward.
  23. We struggled to break Brighton down because we attacked them too slowly and allowed them to get back into position too easily.
  24. Last season, Norwich and Brighton finished in higher league positions but we've beaten both of them this season. I hear your fear but our best chance of getting results is by us taking the game to teams. We'll ship loads but also score loads and that last stat is all that matters.
  25. What do you propose as our style of play/formation?
