  1. Has anyone seen The Damned United? If so, please tell me I'm not the only one who looks at Craig Shakespeare and sees Timothy Spall's version of Peter Taylor.
  2. Does anyone else feel that the club is preparing to get Pearson in as manager? Did Smith do one over on Thomas Frank and now Lange is planning to avenge his friend?
  3. And so the Nigel Pearson link continues. Shakespeare was number two to him at Leicester and Watford. Did Shakespeare cross paths with Smith at Walsall? Shakespeare left in 1989 and Smith joined them that year. Who knows but, for me, it all seems a bit low in terms of thinking. I would prefer the club to go for people who have come from higher echelons of the game.
  4. And, if it has been on the cards for some time you would expect the new guys would have already had players in mind in terms of targets?
  5. I agree with you on both players TRO. Sarr has the better frame to compete with PL defenders and would be the better signing IMO, if we could afford him.
  6. 16th-17th as I am not expecting too much given the short turnaround. As long as we stay up and are in a position to kick on from at the end of next season I'll be happy.
  7. Interestingly, I just took a look at Brentford's 32 man squad on Wiki. 7 of them are Danish.
  8. So, Thomas Frank was number two to Dean Smith but is close friends with the man who will get the players in for Dean Smith to coach and the same man was alleged to have been number two to Frank previously. Why not just get Thomas Frank to manage us then? I think if Smith gets off to a bad start they might just use Lange to get Frank in.
  9. 1. First signing on 13th August. 2. 6 signings. 3. £75m net spend.
  10. The badges are too high, the badge should be stitched not ctapoy rubber and the sleeves are too long. Otherwise, it's OK.
  11. I'd have thought the car on the A would be a giveaway as to what Cazoo deal in
  12. Mate, I want the same as you but with such a short close season and the current situation with no fans and the pandemic etc I just can't help but feel that next season will also be a struggle. We have stayed up but we're not ripping up trees in doing so. Fair enough, we kept it tighter at the back but without doubt we struggled to create anything in the final third. Any new players, unless Premier League proven, are going to have to find their feet just like last season's collective. I'd take 16th and not needing anything on the last day of the season right now if it could be guaranteed. We all need to remember we haven't done a Fulham but we also haven't done a Wolves. They signed top players - we have not. The likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Brighton, Burnley, Southampton etc are not new to perennial struggles and I think we just need to weather the storm for a couple of seasons before finally stepping up.
  13. This is exactly as I see it. I'd have more confidence in Trezeguet making a contribution from the bench than El Ghazi. In fact, following last season's displays he's more like El Khazi.
  14. You'd keep El Ghazi - weaker than non-alcoholic beer and miss of the season front-runner but get rid of Trezeguet - up and down the field more than the world ploughing champion and scorer of all the goals in our only victories post-lockdown? No thanks.
  15. That shirt is so bad it simply cannot be real. If that is real, the only thinking behind it is that it will somehow send the opposition into a trance giving us an edge in every game we play in that shirt.
  16. Whichever of the two doesn't get promoted, we should sign either Ollie Watkins or Mitrovic. Both have done the business this season.
  17. I'd buy Buendia at £12m to be back-up to Jack, if he stays.
  18. Because of the quick turnaround and the fact we struggled last season, I would be happy as long as we improve on last season's finish. By that I mean, I would take a 16th or above finish as long as we didn't leave it until the last day to be safe. Remember, we need to add about half a team to our existing one to become half decent. That won't happen overnight, just like it didn't last season.
  19. Paul, Bournemouth have gone down with steady Eddie and his Premier League experienced players in tow. Watford have gone down having spent millions on players that have far more Premier League experience than our players. Norwich were always in danger having spent very little in the transfer market. Imagine if we followed the Norwich philosophy - we would have been the first team relegated. We haven't done a Fulham. We have survived by the skin of our teeth but WE did it. We took the most points in the last four games and made it count. On to next season now with a more experienced squad and management team with loads of money to spend on more quality than quantity. Come on you Villa boys!
  20. With designs like this you have to ask yourself wtf other companies make such a pigs ear of it.
  21. If it wasn't for their managers being Arteta and Ancelotti I would have little faith in Arsenal and Everton giving us the results we want. But, with those two guys in charge of their clubs I have confidence in them doing a professional job on their opponents. Remember, players at both Arsenal and Everton are playing for their futures in a profession that is going through very uncertain times. Both managers will want to bring their own players in if possible. My only concern with Arsenal is if they rest Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pepe, Ceballos etc. Watford are a physical side when they want to be and might bully the Arsenal youngsters who are wanting a game at Wembley so they may win a few more challenges than normal. Villa have to go into our game with an obsession of winning it. If we win we are pretty much safe for as much as Watford could cause an upset there is no way they win by 3 at the Emirates. The one thing Villa can't be accused of is giving in. They've fought all season and it's a good sign for us going into that final game.
