  1. This is what you call making a statement with this signing. We were worlds away from this kind of name just a couple of years ago. To be honest, I still thought we were but, it clearly shows what a difference a manager with a big name in the game makes. In my opinion, Dean Smith would not have been able to sign Coutinho. No offence meant to Deano as I do like him and what he did for us but Gerrard has the bigger pull, obviously. I get why people have fears of this deal. We've been to that dark place of paying way over the odds wages for people to sit on their arses doing nothing and fleecing us. But, I do not have that fear with Coutinho. He knows Gerrard personally and will know exactly what our manager will want and expect from him. He wouldn't be coming here unless he felt he could deliver still. He isn't going to want to piss off his mate! As for a chant, surely it has to be something like...........Coutinho, woah oh. Coutinho, woah oh oh. He's rejoined his friend Gerrard, to light up Villa Park.
  2. I think if, before our games, you asked all football fans who see us play who is most likely to make an error leading to a goal Mings would be the one most voted for, followed by Cash. They are the main two culprits. I'm sure if you looked at stats they would prove that to be the case.
  3. I'm glad Ings has gone off. He just doesn't work in our system/team. Watkins is far better for us down the middle.
  4. I would! There's being outclassed or outthought but, Mings didn't even make a challenge. He didn't even get off the ground. It was lazy defending.
  5. I was talking with a guy I work with recently. His mate plays for Villa and he told my mate that Gerrard has been a breath of fresh air since coming into the club and the players are loving it.
  6. He does seem to give the ball away more than I'd like but there's no doubting he's the most technically gifted of what we have. As others have said, he's getting better with every game.
  7. Seems to be a bit of down-talking McGinn lately. He's consistently the best player in our midfield and if he was to be missing for half a dozen games we would be crying out for him to return.
  8. When he first came in he said he noticed we had to be better defensively without the ball. Look at us in the first two games, keeping a nice back-line of four. He saw a problem and appears to have found a way to fix it.
  9. Hopefully, he can add a bit of steel to our play. Sick of our teams being a soft touch.
  10. He's scouse mate, not a murderer. Sky love him and so we might just get a bit more fairer treatment from them going forward, who knows?
  11. Just want to say that the last two men who came from that area of the country were very good for us.
  12. Your username is going to be iconic either way
  13. Welcome to the Villa, Steve. Give us your all, respect the club, its history and us fans and we will give you our full support. I hope your achievements as a player can be mirrored by your management. If so, things should turn out well. We all know your love affair with Liverpool, it's understandable. But, when we play them, do not do what Gerard Houllier did and disrespect the fans you now represent, it isn't a smart thing to do. Good luck and all the very best PS: Remember that position you used to play in? Well, we need one of those please
  14. Looks like it is going to be Steven Gerrard then. I'm worried by his lack of experience at a higher level than a two-horse race league but, we, all know that as a player he had a dogged determination to win. He was a no-nonsense player and if he's taken that into management maybe it will add that steel that we all feel is missing. For those wanting a ball-winning midfielder (like me), if there was ever a man needed to identify that surely it is Gerrard? If we need it he will see that for sure. I'm concerned that if he goes in with a big tough attitude it may destroy the apparent good atmosphere all around the club but, at the same time, as it all become a bit too nice and easy for everyone? The one thing that cannot be denied is that the guy is a winner and will be respected by all of the players at the club for what he achieved in the game. I will give him, or whoever else is appointed, my full support and time to make their changes to the club/players.
  15. You mean, we can get him but he will cost us £1m a week in wages?
  16. Fonseca turned down Newcastle, the new richest club in the world. If Villa had gotten to him with an offer prior to that, it must have been some sell to persuade him to wait a while.
  17. I totally agree about our need for a combative midfielder who can get about the pitch and fully protect the back four. We've been screaming a need for one for years but, for whatever reason, we don't seem to get one.
  18. You say "Dean's consistency helps us go on runs" when we're "hot". That's not Dean, it's the players. The best Villa team has not been seen this season for varying reasons. I really cannot wait to see this lineup: ------------------------Martinez---------------------- Cash-------Konsa------Mings-------Targett ------------------Luiz--------McGinn-------------- Traore-------------Buendia--------------Bailey -----------------------Watkins------------------------
  19. Only Ings, Traore and Luiz coming into the team would improve us tonight. I still don't think we'd have won with them.
  20. Our defence from last season is non-existent. Although, Mings and Cash are playing well. Right now, I cannot wait for the returns of Luiz and Traore.
  21. This is Dean Smith's last game - it has to be. If you can't compete against the team above you near the foot of the table they really are only going in one direction and it isn't upwards.
