  1. Only seen one of any note. No worse than any other player.
  2. I'm gonna call a dodgy pen to them from the ref or a Mings own goal. Either won't be deserved as we've done much better than I anticipated in that first half and would be ahead if Ings had kept his header down.
  3. Does everyone else sense this W of a ref giving Liverfool a penalty? He's a disgrace. An absolute
  4. Seriously? He's done well. He's broken up loads of their attacks and only made on real error when trying to play it out from the back.
  5. Can't tell whether he tried to clear it and misjudged it so ended up standing on it or, he tried to control it. The first is a mistake and the second is a poor decision. That has to be blasted clear.
  6. I fear the Liverfool backlash after not winning against Spuds but.... come on Villa. Give us another big night to cheer.
  7. Come on you Villa boooooyyyyyssss
  8. Cheers mate, I'll send my application form in tomorrow
  9. Thankfully for me, I've pre-planned the last sentence over the last few years and look forward to finally fitting into a new shirt
  10. And if Phil throws a strop next year he's ours on a big salary. No way should he play tonight over Buendia after Saturday's MOTM performance. It sends the wrong signals to players.
  11. Attila? I bet his missus calls him Hun!
  12. Gerrard has a record of winning titles, albeit at a lower level. Gerrard has only been able to bring in three players of which only one was bought. Would Smith have been able to get Digne or Coutinho to the club? Gerrard is largely still using Smith's signings. Gerrard hasn't had a pre-season. This is our first season without Grealish and, the players are trying to get used to a new style/system during it. I sound like Gerrard's agent or something but, I'm just trying to put a positive spin on it all. Also, I think that's what Purslow and Co will be saying/thinking to justify giving him the summer spending and into next season. I'd only expect a change if we don't see improvement after 10 games. I think we will see us get about £100m+ for players sold and Gerrard also be given around £100m on top of that. I think he'll sign Coutinho for around £30m and then buy at least another 4 or 5 starters for this team, plus a back-up left back. Out of what's here already I think he'll persist with starting: Martinez, Cash, Digne, Mings, McGinn or Ramsey and, Coutinho. I think there'll be 5 new starters brought in. A new defensive midfielder, right sided centre back, a new front three. I think Coutinho will be the forward-most central midfielder with either McGinn or Ramsey behind him with a new DM. Marv will be back-up DM. I think he'll try to offload Luiz (£30m), Ings (£15m), Davis (£5m), Carney (released), Targett (£15m), El Ghazi (released), Guilbert (£5m), Wesley (released), Barry (£3m), Trezeguet (£6m), Traore (£10m), Steer (loan), Kalinic (loan), Vassilex (expired), Hourihane (expired), Sanson (£11m). I think this will be one of the biggest summers in our history. If we could push those sales/releases through it will free up a lot of wages.
  13. This was my problem with the signing of Digne. My concern is that Gerrard wants to bring in players with contracts that are going to be too much for the club. I don't want us to return to the dark days.
  14. Anyone else think the key area is the buy a seriously good DM so that Luiz and McGinn can play further forward?
  15. Martinez may also be being affected by all his travelling to and from South America. Another thing about Smith is his management style where he is very player-friendly. Like he said before, you always need them to perform for you so can't be too hard on them. Maybe Gerrard is being too hard on them and they're spitting the dummy out?
  16. Spot on mate! The system seems to be a big problem. Also, I question what the big wages of Coutinho and Digne, together with the treatment for Targett, has done to morale. Players would've understood Grealish being on big money seeing as he'd been here longer and was captain etc. If Digne has come in on more money than anyone else I can imagine the players being peed off with that. The arrival of Ings seems to have unhinged Watkins too. He must be on big dough and probably another reason for Watkins' not playing like he did last season. As far as Gerrard is concerned, today was as dire as anything seen this season. People need to remember that Smith didn't have last season's back five available to him this season. Gerrard did from day one. We've seen some good bits of football but we have not played one game this season where we played well for the whole game. He needs to abandon this style of play whereby he's asking McGinn, Luiz and Ramsey to play as defensive cover for the full backs. It's killing our midfield play.
  17. Gotta say it, that was our worst performance this season. Now, Gerrard himself said the other night that our numbers were through the roof so he'd have to look at the players before picking a team - then goes and picks the same team (Konsa would've played too if not suspended). That was odd. Team selection apart, the players looked off it - Mings apart! Martinez - Was poor at times. Has becoming an International affected him negatively at club level? Cash - Time and again he gets into great positions but there's no end product. There was no excuse today sd he had the run of the pitch second half against an injured Saint-Maximin. Digne - Same as Cash - no end product. Chambers - Average debut from him but, what did we expect really? McGinn - Shadow of the real SJM but he's being asked to basically play right back under Gerrard. Ramsey - Luckily for him, Newcastle relied more on ASM than Fraser otherwise he'd have been like McGinn. As it was, couldn't get forward as much as we'd like. Luiz - Poor first half although he was the only one switched on for their quick free kick. Much better second half when driving into their half. Buendia - Tried his best but didn't get enough of the ball to make an impact. Coutinho - See Buendia. Watkins - Long balls were no use to him as Burn was a foot taller at times. However, you'd certainly expect him to do more with the ball at his feet. He often looks like he's running at a different speed to the ball and leaving it behind, likes it is stuck in mud. Still our main striker.
  18. Can we please stop subbing on Chucky over Sanson. If he's that desperate to keep him, play him from the start! Sanson was bought and deserves a crack in a game like this. For the record, Luiz has had a better second half now he's driving forward. He's far better in the opposing half than his own. When is a Villa manager going to realise that?
  19. The 4th official could have held up 47 minutes, we still wouldn't score. Gerrard needs to look at his style of play. Nullifying two midfielders in order to get Cash and Digne up the pitch to do sweet FA has killed us today. Smith realised this towards his end, making the back four more rigid. We need to go back to that because today, Eddie Howe has out-thought Gerrard.
  20. We are not scoring today. Of course, they'll say how well Newcastle defended etc but we know the truth. Today, Villa were just not good enough. Newcastle have broken up play well on countless occasions but we have shown no courage or ability today. We have been awful.
  21. Gerrard changing McGinn for Chucky is just mind-boggling. If you change him at all surely it's for Sanson?
  22. On top of that, how many more fouls is Joelinton allowed before a second yellow? McGinn was booked for winning the ball FFS. The ref is an utter turd.
