  1. Is that another signing besides Amavi and Gueye?
  2. Don't we need a right midfielder/winger too? If Sherwood's not sure about Gil I can see us being in for one … Bacuna? Sinclair play there too? Or perhaps Dennis Praet?

  4. Is that in addition to Benteke and Delph? Yesh, unlikely if Randy remains in charge though Agreed. Lerner's no longer involved according to previous reports that he was giving up the Chairman role. Maybe these signings are parting gifts?
  5. If Guzan stays and is first choice, a team like this could line up for us next month: -------------Guzan-------- Richards--Okore--Clark--Amavi --------Gueye-----Delph------- Praet-------Grealish-----Sinclair -------------Benteke------------ I would be well happy with a line-up like that.
  6. This is my concern too! With Villa there always seems to be a but so I am hoping that we do our business and rebuild around our best players instead of selling them to fund replacements and starting all over again, like we seem to do year after year. Really? The last 4 years we have barely spent regardless. We've not sold anyone worthy of replacing. If we do move Benteke on and go on to spend say, £40-50m, I'll not complain too much. I agree with you just as long as we bring in replacements of similar quality. Benteke basically kept us up in two of the last three seasons and we would be in the Championship now if it wasn't for Sherwood breathing new life into him. A replacement is not guaranteed to deliver us the goals that he has but, it could well go the other way and we end up with numerous players in with that money and go on to not miss him - which I hope would be the case. I am just fed up of the fact that every time we find a decent player we end up having to sell him and then use that money to invest in the team. Just for a change, it would be nice to keep our best players and invest more to bring in better players around them, just to see where that can take us.
  7. Well, they have marriages and civil partnerships held their now so you never know, maybe they have opened up the doors for people to take care of their personal hygiene? A different kind of groom?

  9. The shirt looks great but the sponsor "accounting software for small businesses"! We must have struck that deal after buying some software from them.
  10. If Liverpool won't pay more than £25m for him, who would fans be happy to accept in a player plus £25m deal? It's a big ask but I'd take Ibe plus that amount as that kid looks quality.
  11. Benteke's goals, in two of the last three seasons, kept us up. Guzan was probably the reason we stayed up in that third season. My concern is, if both leave this summer, and they are not replaced adequately enough, and if other signings are not of the quality to strengthen us, we may finally slip through the trap door. I don't mind Villa selling Benteke if he no longer wants to play for us and they get the right price for us. But, they need to ensure they spend that money wisely and we need to remind ourselves that the manager with the task of replacing these players is a man with no experience of signing players other than Micah Richards which, to be fair, was a good start. My hopes towards the end of last season was that it was the last time we will be fighting relegation, at least for the near future, and that we would be looking forward to a nice, comfortable, mid-table finish next season. But, if Benteke, Vlaar, Delph and Guzan were to go I would be changing those hopes to just staying up next season.
  12. Those clips of Gueye make me think he would be brought in to play in front of the back four instead of Westwood and Sanchez.
  13. Replacing Guzan will only ever make sense if we get decent replacements/additions wherever they are needed in the squad.
  14. Who gave out the information about a release clause anyway? Could only think it's Delph talking to one of his new England pals and they've spilled the beans, maybe?
  15. Jimmy Durmaz? currently plays for Olympiakos and Sweden Asgeir Borkur? but he is from Iceland I don't care how good he is or what position he plays, he must be the number 1 transfer target. Sign that man now. I agree! He's just what we've been looking for - the missing link!
  16. Does Carlos speak good English? Maybe he doesn't understand it when Villa players shout "man on".
  17. Feck it, I'll go for Everton at home first game with an away day at Spurs for last game of the season.
  18. Think that's pushing it a bit to be fair. Even the great Sir Stanley Matthews only played into his 50s.
  19. Surely not? Why would a special effects company advertise on a football kit? Not exactly their target market is it? They are a trading company. http://fxworld.trade/ Not to be pedantic, but Industrial Light and Magic are the leading Hollywood fx house. Of course now owned by Disney. so there you go, the mouse is sponsoring/buying us [emoji1] Well we we've become a bit of a Mickey Mouse club so it wouldn't surprise me if they went the whole hog and put him on the shirt.
  20. What you possibly don't understand, is that a lot of us who post on here are Brummies. Brummies by their very nature are pessimistic. Add an underachieving football team to the mix, and you should probably have us on suicide watch! That's completely untrue! I'm a Brummie and I am extremely optimistic that we will buy shite this summer and have another season of fighting relegation after losing Benteke to Liverpool or Man Utd and replacing him Adebayor on 75k per week!
  21. I really liked the look of this guy after seeing him in his first couple of appearances for the club but, after the 6-1 thrashing at Southampton, he was on Twitter saying that "we will make up for it next week, and the week after". What a load of bollocks! Actions speak louder than words Jores. Let your ability on the pitch do the talking and not false promises. Otherwise, you will have a short stay at Aston Villa.
  22. My brother and I managed to scrape tickets with a week to spare. Did we deserve them? probably not to be fair. neither of us went to a game last season, purely because we've had enough of the owner and couldn't forgive him for giving us McLeish. But, before we engage in the "who is the better fan" debate, let's get to my Wembley story. My brother is 12 years older than me and quite simply my hero. He was a soldier, travelling the world, from when I was 6 years of age. He now lives in Coventry and we do not see as much of each other as we would both like - work, life etc getting in the way. But, for a Villa cup final, wild horses couldn't hold us back! We travelled down to Wembley on the train and, as is now customary, we drank a 2 litre bottle of vodka and coke between us on the way - divided in our opinions of who will win. Arsenal for me (the realist), Villa for my brother (the dreamer). We went to the Green Man and had a good laugh and a chat with anyone who didn't mind getting bored by two drunks. We then went to the stadium. Straight after entering the stadium, I went to get a round in. I discovered I had lost my wallet which contained my bank card and £50 in cash. I tried to find it but it was never going to be found, was it? We had a drink anyway and then went to our seats. Now, I am not sure if this happened before kick-off or shortly into the game but, I fell. I lost my balance (probably due to the amount of drink consumed so not looking for sympathy) and fell forwards. I landed two rows in front. Thankfully, I didn't hurt anyone else but myself. I was lucky in the fact that I didn't seriously hurt myself. I was helped up and back to my seat and watched the worst Villa performance in living memory. Which, even though I was drunk, came as a shock to me. I was there in 2000 and thought that this time could be nowhere as bad as that day in terms of team performance - but it was! I had some bets on the game on the way down and one of them included a £1 scorecast at 65-1 on Walcott scoring first with a 3-0 Arsenal win, which I narrowly missed out on thanks to our hopeless players failing to keep out Giroud's injury time 4th. Obviously, not my lucky day! We returned home and I moaned all the way saying I would never go to watch Villa at Wembley again. Obviously, that was the drink talking! A few days later and I am battered and bruised all over. Nothing broken though so very lucky in that respect. The bruising will go in a few more days and, the money, well, I hope whoever found it (I lost it in the entrance to block 532) pissed it up the wall in order to drown their sorrows after watching such a miserable performance! Will we do it again? You're damn right we will! Just as long as we can get tickets for me and my brother then we'll follow the same path to Wembley in the hope of not returning home that night because we will be out on the streets of London town celebrating the Villa's cup win! Just someone please get the importance of such occasions through to our players and give them the same spirit! PS: If you encountered us along the way and my behaviour pissed you off in any way - I sincerely apologise!
  23. Whether you agree with it or not, that is an eminently sensible post. Yeah, I read the comments the same way as the OP. I think we will go to a 4-2-1-3 sort of format with two players sitting in front of the back four so that the full backs can get forward still. Gil will be the true number 10 behind the centre forward and the two wide forwards will be Grealish and Sinclair etc. For me, the reason Gil hasn't played is because of the formation. He doesn't/didn't track runners and so was kind of a luxury. But, playing as a true number 10, he wouldn't have to track back and could concentrate on getting hold of the ball and opening up teams.
  24. Vlaar was poor towards the end of the season but was solid at the beginning. Maybe all the speculation about his future affected him. If he stays we may see the solid Vlaar again next season. Okore has been abysmal in some games and I'd rather see Vlaar and Clark in defence to be honest.
