Why would Veretout be unlikely? Not saying he is unlikely more I find it unlikely Sherwood has targeted three players this window with the same name, just seems unlikely to me. As for the player I've never heard of him and I've certainly haven't heard anything either way in relation to this link. He's a French football journo who happens to also be a villa fan. Gutted! There was I thinking that we were going to sign a proper midfield talent and the president of Nantes goes and ruins it by saying that the player is signing for a "large English club" - not "The BIGGEST English club".

Why so concerned? In the past we've generally had a lot of English players and have either been a crap team, or sold our better English players. Look on the bright side, at least the new players won't get tapped up by the likes of Joe Hart and Jordan Henderson when they go away on international duty for our country. **Sorry but I felt the need to mention a Jordan!

I wasnt suggesting that we do, I was just asking if a 28 year old worth 500k whos international career consists of 4 under 21 caps is worthy of a spot in a 25 man squad that needs to be vastly improved. Was thinking the same thing myself. I wouldn't mind replacing our "losers" for "winners" but this guy has only ever won an award for his beard! He's only played something like 110 games in 6 years.

Look at his Wiki page! It says he won the Seville 2008 hipster of the year award for.....his beard! Reminds me in so many ways of Luna. Plays full back, he's unheard of, he's Spanish, he's got a good beard. I just hope he doesn't compare to him in terms of ability!

Tim Sherwood strikes again For me, as a Villa fan who was born and bred just a few streets away from Villa Park, there's a special feeling when I see or hear a player or manager say they want to make my club great again. It sort of touches the heart and immediately makes me like that person and want them to do really well.

I feel sorry for him if he was told he could leave for a figure and now they've changed their minds because Villa have the Benteke money. Fair play to the lad for speaking up for himself and for Villa. Sounds like he really wants to come to Brum and, with the way things have been for us recently, I'm very happy to see a player that wants to play for us. Of course, money and the prestige of the league probably comes n to it. It would probably does for every player though!

From the stats I've read on here he seems to have the potential to be Benteke, a touch like Gabby and an attitude like Adebayor. Maybe we should buy him and play him as a lone striker - if he's the complete package.

Tim, tell Randy, with that cockney charm to give you the edge, that you want £20m over our net transfer dealings. With £20m spent already that should leave you with around £38m from sales. £15m on Rolan £10m on another striker £8m on Praet £5m on Milosevic Together with the first teamers already signed, that would be a good window.

I would rather we get our dealing done sooner rather than later. If we were to get relegated by a couple of points this season, the last thing I want to see from Sherwood and co is that signing players so late in the transfer window, resulting in a missed pre-season and, the fact they didn't start to gel until we had played a quarter of the season, was the difference between us staying up or going down - but that's what I would expect from them! I said it before on here, at the end of last season Sherwood was harping on about getting players in and out ASAP so that he could have a proper pre-season with the squad. That does not appear to be happening.

Richard, I have to ask you this because you have mentioned several times that this is a huge week. Do you personally know, or are you being informed, that Villa will do something (not selling but buying) that will make this a huge week for the club? or, is it a case of you are simply speculating that, in your opinion, it's a huge week for the club, without any knowledge of what may or may not happen? or, is it a case of you know we are in for players but there's a chance they may not join and that's what makes it a huge week? See, if I knew that Villa were going to by x, y, and z player then I would post something like you have. But, if I thought to myself "with Benteke leaving, this is going to be a huge week for Villa. If they don't bring some players in this week I will be worried for us" See my point mate? Can you throw a scrap of hope our way by saying "yeah, I know that we are looking at players and, if they sign, it will be great but, if they don't, it will be bad for us - hence it's a huge week?

Tell you what concerns me about the Villa right now, Tim Sherwood. Nothing against him at all and like the positivity he brings. But, this is his first transfer window and we are trusting this relatively inexperienced manager - together with Fox, Reilly etc - with the money from the sales of our two best players. And, not only as he got to replace those players but, he also needs to rebuild a starting eleven and a quality bench. Most of the above needs to be done with a few weeks as well as preparing the squad for the new season. I just hope that we are bringing in the players that the manager wants and not just what fits our budget!

Having read that we are being linked with two further players from the French league - Mendy and Rolan - it begs the question; Why the sudden interest in French League players? I recall listening to commentary on a Champions League game a clue of years ago where the commentator said that, in France, the club has to pay the same amount to the government as they do to the player. If true, could it be that we're looking for players from that league because we can pay them salaries above what they're being paid already without it being too much to hurt the club?
