  1. If Sherwood was to get sacked, we couldn't attract either of Moyes or Rodgers in to replace him, and the board stated they wanted someone British who has Premier League experience, who would you want us to go for? By the way, Fergie has retired and isn't coming out of it!
  2. If Sherwood does get replaced soon, and it is by Brendan Rodgers, I hope we get the Swansea version of him. I think the kind of thing in the below link would really give our younger players the freedom to express themselves: Won't blame Rangel for error
  3. I can understand people questioning the manager's ability because of the mistakes he's making but to call the new players "average" after just a handful of appearances is not merited in my opinion. A lot of them are young, foreign and new to what's supposed to be the toughest league in world football. It's way too early to write them off.
  4. I cannot wait for the day Charles N'Zogbia is no longer a registered player of Aston Villa Football Club.
  5. Surely Sherwood won't take this so easily and will soon start spouting off to the press.
  6. Rodgers will be attractive to Lerner simply because he's free!
  7. Jack's fine. He needs other intelligent players around him to 1) Make better use of him and 2) Draw attention from defenders who might otherwise be helping out with the marking of Jack. Play Jack, Gil, Traore as the three behind the striker and you will have a lot of one v one situations and that will lead to us creating lots more scoring opportunities.
  8. Randy, for all Villa fans this Christmas, can you please gift us the announcement that you have sold the club due to lowering the asking price to an amount deemed more reasonable to the purchaser. A new owner in time for the January transfer window would be fantastic .
  9. I totally expect to see Sherwood on Goals on Sunday in around 4-6 weeks time banging on about how he wasn't given enough time, he was just finding his best team, the board were ungrateful after he kept us up, he didn't pick the players we signed, the fans are all deluded, fickle and live in the early 80's etc etc.
  10. Senderos has been abducted by the Annunaki and taken back to Nibiru. Ilori was kidnapped and being held to ransom. The reported fee is 10,000 authentic British passports.
  11. Win one out of the next two is a strange thing really. We could win both but then lose the next six. If they are doubting him so much they should just move on and get someone else in. People were saying Allardyce because of his experience and ability to keep teams up. Moyes, for me, is better at that than big Sam, and you're more likely to see better football! Moyes put together one of the best full back pairings in British football for relatively nothing. His defences always looked a lot more solid than ours currently looks. He had hard-working midfields too, which is something we're crying out for - referring to his Everton days. Moyes is also proven at working on a shoestring budget. My only concern is that he's Scottish and Scottish managers have a bad record at Villa overall. But, someone has to change that. Let's face it, some of the best managers in British football history have been Scottish. For me, Moyes would pretty much be a safe bet. I reckon he would join us for multiple reasons - coming home, managing in the Premier League again etc. The only snag may be the costs involved. We all know our owner's plans regarding spending money on the club so Moyes might be beyond our budget.
  12. Sometimes I look at this thread and think to myself "He's gone then" because all I see are people suggesting this and that name. So, with that in mind, shall we just all pretend he's gone and make it in to a guessing game as to whom will be replacing him? Might make better reading than "as he gone yet?"
  13. There's no doubting that Sherwood has made mistakes and appears to have no idea how to put out a winning side right now but, there's no way that he will take all of the blame if he's voiced concerns about the transfer policy in the summer. To a certain extent, one could feel sorry for him. But, how many of last season's players, that he worked with, were his actual choices? None! He could leave Villa today and join any team in the world tomorrow and none of the player's would be his choices. The clue is in the job title - manager. That's his job, to manage those players in a way that we get the best out of them as a collective, a team. If he continues to show that he is unable to do that - and let's face it, he has done himself no favours by openly saying he has no idea what his best eleven is - he will struggle to find another management position if he fails to turn things around at Villa. I think that the level of abuse and criticism that Sherwood is getting is sooner into his reign than I would ever have thought. I am not sure if it is totally merited but, with losing your best players in the summer and replacing them with unknown quantities, together with no apparent vision of where we are going - other than to the bottom of the league - I guess it is understandable that the natives are going to start getting restless. He knew what the owner and job was about when he took over. He was aware of what to expect so he can't really expect too much sympathy from the footballing community. It does beg the question of who will want to join the club once he's gone though!
  14. Villaglint I am not saying that our four are equal to Arsenal's or Chelsea's. They are in no way comparable. I'm saying that we should play them because they are as important to our team as the other four's are to their teams. Also, it's a different level of expectation anyway. The other two sets of four players are competing for top honours. Our four should be good enough to keep us in the league which, according to our manager, was all this season is supposed to be about.
  15. Is that your own opinion Trent or do you know something that the rest of us don't?
  16. I remember reading Sherwood's comments on the OS the day after the Notts County cup game. He said that he wouldn't want to be playing a team that consisted of Traore, Gil, Grealish and Veretout in a league game because it left us too open in that cup game. Could you imagine Wenger saying the same about Ozil, Sanchez, Ramsey and Cazorla? Or, Mourinho about Willian, Hazard, Oscar and Ramires? I think that he needs to be ballsy and play to our strengths, which isn't being defensive.
  17. Loving that Maqroll team above. We would still lose games but at least we'd have gone down fighting and given the fans some excitement. I think that team would win more often than we have been used to recently!
  18. I seriously believe that there's more chance of Mourinho going after that next league game. Remember, we were his last opponents the last time his Chelsea career ended!
  19. I don't think that they will pull the trigger soon at all. IF they decided to get rid of Sherwood, I think it wouldn't be at least until he's had a third of the season. That means he will get around 5 more games. But, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they stuck by him through thick and thin. Meaning that, even if we were relegated, they would stick by him. I don't know why I am thinking that way but, with our board, it's hard to have any trust in them.
  20. When you look at those results since we were safe last season, they don't make good reading at all. 9 defeats and 1 draw. Our 3 wins included 2 close cup wins against lower league opposition and a first day victory over a newly promoted team. That's not good reading even if you are a staunch fan of Sherwood.
  21. I voted for him not to be sacked but that was based on him having time to play HIS team and for the players to have enough time to gel - 10 to 12 games. However, I would not be bothered if they sacked him and got someone else in. At this point, I was just about to type "as long as that person looked like an improvement". But, let's face it, there isn't much to improve on right now. I think that some folks are right when they say that we look like we are going backwards instead of improving. What concerns me most is the things he keeps saying that, to me anyway, seem like he is digging his own grave: 1) A couple of weeks ago he played Clark at DCM against SHA and the team played long-ball tactics up to Gestede. He changed it second half and we managed to scrape a win to which he proclaimed was a tactic on his part. I mean, come on! The world of football pissed itself laughing at him for that. 2) Last season he vowed to keep us up and that we would never face a relegation battle under him. We drop into the bottom three following defeat at Liverpool and post match he's saying that this season was always going to be about staying in the league. 3) This week, he changes to a 3-5-2 formation and plays Hutton at right wing-back. In that formation, without so much emphasis on defending, surely Bacuna would have been the better option? He then changes to 4-3-3 second half (a tactic which led me to actually suggest that, if we had gone on to win the game, he would have said that he planned that tactic from the start a la SHA) and moves the first half's right CB to play left CB and again subs the poor Lescott who, for some reason, he continues to play from the start. After losing that game he then admits to not knowing his best team! If he had any idea as to how he wanted to play or who his best players are then fair enough, I would be all for defending him. But, has been as his won words speak that he doesn't seem to know those things, well, it is hard to defend the man after that. Also, if results in the next 5 games go how the majority of fans think they will go, I doubt very much he will be any nearer to knowing his best team. We will be over a third of the way into the season by then and could very well be bottom of the league by then and several points from safety. Not past the point of survival but, it would be a difficult job for any new manager to come in and turn around. I am not saying this is what we should do but, I have a feeling that this is what the thinking will be at the club: "Let's do what Leicester did and stand by Sherwood like Leicester did with Pearson last season." I think that will be the stance they take. It would be a gamble and a half if things are looking so bleak after the upcoming fixtures but, I just don't have any confidence in the board to actually get it right. I want Sherwood to succeed, just like any other manager that is in charge of the club I love. I am just concerned that maybe this guy rode his luck last season and has been found out as being too inexperienced to cope with the situation he now finds himself in. Whatever the board decide, I hope they do not leave it too late and that they make the right decision for the good of the Villa.
  22. We hadn't conceded by half time. Ayew and Veretout look like they are improving. Crespo is fit and playing. Guzan looks back on form. Richards is looking decent (despite my early season concerns) and Gestede is a finisher. Other than that, we seem in decline.
  23. I thought he did OK to be fair to him.
