  1. Was talking about this with a mate at work the other day. West Ham away for a midweek cup match in the late 80s. Way too many in the away end and loads of fans watched the game from the track running around the pitch. I was a teenager and went with my Dad. It was the closest I witnessed to a crush at a Villa game. Anyone also remember Villa v Arsenal at Villa Park when the netting that separated the Holte from the Witton Lane stand was set alight? That was a scary moment too.
  2. But, we need someone to get us up - not keep us up! As far as Adkins is concerned, you could argue that he was sacked too early and because of that we don't know what he was really capable of achieving with that team. Just saying.
  3. Those suggesting Pearson because of how he got Leicester to the Premier League; would you also take Nigel Adkins as he did a similar, if not better, job at Southampton?
  4. A loan move for Danny Ings maybe? He's a proven goalscorer at Championship level, would be eager to score and play well to impress his employers at Liverpool, they have a deluge of strikers ahead of him and, they probably would like to see him get games but not in the Premier League. Maybe a stumbling block over who pays what though?
  5. Allardyce has been there and done it all before. He knows how to get forwards scoring, remember Kevin Davies? I always thought that Sunderland might survive with him in charge. Today's Villa performance was all about not holding the outright record of the longest losing run. They were rubbish and never looked like scoring, which goes to show how bad Newcastle are and that's why they deserve to join us in the Championship.
  6. I doubt there will be any sympathy from the barcodes today. They will probably just have a laugh at the expense of those protesting. Let's hope we have the last laugh after the game.
  7. In terms of having a manager that will get a grip of the players who seemingly don't do not appear to give a shit, Nigel Pearson seems a good fit. But, we have had enough negative press this season - we do not need any more! For the immediate future at least, we need some calmness to steady the ship. That is where I think Pearson will fail the club. Game after game he spouts all kinds of crazy stuff and the press all know this so will go after him for more crazy quotes. Again, we will be in the press as a laughing stock and that is something the club can do without after what's happened in the last season.
  8. He's going to introduce new attacking tactics to the wingers, in order to give the forwards more hope of scoring. It goes something like this: "You wang it over and they'll wang it in".
  9. Aren't Newcastle supposedly fooked if they go down? I'm sure the paper's were reporting that Ashley used up their transfer funds in January and that players on big bucks don't have relegation clauses.
  10. We need an owner who shows their face at the club. On match days and during the week. A man (or men) who shows the players that they care about the club and won't accept any fooling around. For me, Lerner's lack of presence has coincided with all the unprofessional behaviour at Villa. We need people who want to show the players and staff that they really mean business and that Villa isn't a toy.
  11. Well done to Leicester, I'm chuffed that an underdog had managed to upset the Sky favourites. However, this is, in my opinion, a bad thing in the grander scheme of the Premier League. The gulf between the top six and the rest has been huge for almost the entire history of this money-driven "competition". The bosses of the league can now use Leicester as poster boy for an "anybody can do it" campaign whenever the biased aspects of the league are brought into question. But, as we all know, it will be a very long time before any other team emulates Leicester's achievements this season.
  12. Mercedes? Don't you mean cart? Nothing to do with his looks either, he literally is a carthorse!
  13. The players are shit and don't care about the club nor its fans. A mass cull is needed to give us a chance of at least not going down to League One.
  14. Seriously, anybody that thinks a new owner, new manager, new backroom staff and even just a handful of this squad next season will see us OK, is deluded!
  15. Nah it's now: SH1T Z0G His next will be TO55 POT
  16. What if the potential buyers are as thick at running a football club as Lerner is and, therefore, they wanted football people in place at board level because they don't want to make the club any worse than it already is? If there is a buyer or two negotiating, it would worry me that they would want to haggle over a price if the asking price is now as low as £75m. It makes me wonder how much money they have, or are willing, to invest in the club. With what's gone on before with regards to Lerner's ownership, I really don't trust him to sell us to anybody decent. In fact, it would not surprise me if he is looking for someone to do a worse job than him just to make his tenure look better than it actually was!
  17. With Okazaki being part of a Premier League winning fairytale, Leicester might just be the next big thing in the land of the rising sun too!
  18. I have a mate at work who works as a steward in the Trinity Road stand on match days. I asked him if he's one of the staff being made redundant and he said "I don't know yet. I asked about it at work (the Villa) and was told that we have to wait and see what happens with the takeover as any new owners might want to keep people on".
  19. With regards to the protest, I can understand Richard's question about where the protest is going. But, I also hear the argument from the protesters because there's no guarantee that a sale will go through and we, the fans, need to know what Lerner plans to do in that instance.
  20. I have a feeling that the word MEH is going to replace the word MELTDOWN in this summer's transfer window.
  21. What about everyone turning their backs on the players on '74 all Man City's Poznan? But, instead of linking arms and bouncing (too many spaces for linking arms), everyone stand still holding up their banner (banner obviously facing the pitch) and singing "we want our Villa back" or "you're not fit to wear our shirt" etc. Failing doing it on '74, maybe all remaining fans at the end of the game could do it to the players? Perhaps the Newcastle fans would also join in against their own players if they are down by then?
  22. I reckon this Reilly fella is some computer geek, with spots, a backwards placed baseball cap and a bedroom full of old pizza boxes and empty cans of coke (a fella's gotta eat and drink you know!) who spends most of his day playing Fifa, Pro Evo and FM followed by compiling data on that day's best performances. He then searches youtube for video footage compilations of noted best performers and then does a wiki search to try learn more about them. He then emails the said details to the powers-that-be at Villa Park and leaves negotiations in their "capable" hands.
  23. I bet it smells Romantically Nourished!
  24. It was a better looking protest today but I think you guys need to change the banner now. The future is pretty much known, he wants to sell and pretty much that is all you will get from him. I'd like to see a banner that reads something like: PREMIER LEAGUE STATUS = GONE HUNDREDS OF JOBS = GONE OUR DIGNITY = GONE WHERE IS OUR APOLOGY, LERNER?
