  1. So would I, he'd make me look fitter and a better footballer too!
  2. I don't think anyone could question the effort he put in on Sunday. Compare him to players previously been accused of that - N'Zogbia, Gabby, etc - and his performance was a million miles away from that.
  3. FFS he must have really gone downhill if he was replaced by this:
  4. Westwood and Gardner should watch footage of Gareth Barry to see how to play the holding midfielder role to perfection. He was absolutely brilliant for the toffeemen tonight. Breaks up play and makes great passes, of all distances, forward - usually picking out a teammate.
  5. All that is needed is cover in front of the back four. Gardner AND Westwood are incapable of that and both cannot play together in the same midfield. For me personally, RDM's biggest challenge now is to find a way of protecting the back four in the event that we find ourselves unable to field either Tshibola or Jedinak in future games. Who else do we have available to us that can play in front of the back four and stay disciplined enough to hold that position throughout a game? Look at the two goals we conceded yesterday. Both scored by Forest midfielders with Westwood unable to win the ball on both occasions. Now, I am not saying that Westwood is to blame full stop but, he was the one who could have done something to prevent the goals but was not able to. It's that position on the park that needs addressing and then we will see a winning Villa team.
  6. He clearly got told about his distribution at half time. First half, he was running with the ball, drawing players to him, then failing to release or took a shot on that wasn't any good. Also, he didn't cross enough we having chance. Second half, he was a much better player. He released the ball at the right times and provided some good crosses too. Nobody can argue that he's frustrating at times but, on the flip side, nobody can argue that he looks our best and most dangerous player too. He set up two goals, laid a couple of other good chances on and also hit the bar. Definitely MOTM for me.
  7. This league is full of poor teams and it doesn't even itself out at this stage of the season. We will fly up the league once we find the correct balance and start stringing victories together. Then, once the guys get nearer to the top, confidence will grow and they will become hungrier to get to the top and be even harder to beat. As my brother always says "shit always floats to the top"
  8. I think that we all have to remind ourselves that this league doesn't have the calibre of defenders that Gestede would have faced in the Premier League, hence he scored a lot of goals a couple of seasons ago. We may see Rudy prove to be very important to us this season, especially during AFCON if he doesn't go.
  9. I think Dr Tony's tweet (above) was aimed more at certain players than the manager. That's I how read it anyway.
  10. For me he was the better of two cm's today and this level is his as long as he has a DM playing behind him.
  11. I think people need to calm down and look at the games played column.
  12. WALOB regarding criticism of the manager. 6 games out of a long season = chill out!!
  13. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha = you just got the job of the clown in that said circus. We were by far the better team. We just desperately lacked a defensive minded midfielder. Westwood got walked through in the build up to their first and then failed to get a foot in - on about three occasions - for their second. Going forward we created loads of chances and if Ayew had played the first half like he did the second - laying the ball off quicker or getting the cross in sooner - we might have done even better. We will be fine once they give the defence some cover and get Ayew to play it quicker and Jack to stay out wider instead of cutting in.
  14. This is mad. We've got 9 new players who will end up being the first team. Xia got RDM's players in so will clearly give him time to get them playing together!
  15. Ayew needs to learn to release the ball Ince he's drawn the defensive player to him. McCormack made a couple of good diagonal runs across Cb's into space but both times the player with the ball failed to play it through. That's our main problem right now - midfield.
  16. Tshibola is a worry for me. Seems to be injured a lot for such a young lad. Our centre midfield area could make or break us this season. Hopefully, Westwood and Gardner step up to the plate today and beyond.
  17. I know a close family friend of JG's that has known him most his life. He told me that when he signed that previous deal he was put on £35k per week. If true, and I have no reasons to doubt that info, JG must have had a seriously good (for the club) relegation clause included in that deal.
  18. I dunno, I reckon he'll be more frustrated in 5 years time when people are asking him "Dr Xia, why buy Griezmann for £65m when you could have gotten Neymar for £60m?"
  19. I'll throw in a G) They're all jealous barstards down the M5! The M6 is superior
  20. Here's a question. Let's imagine that Villa had a stadium right now that holds 70,000 and over the last two seasons we had won back-to-back Premier League titles, an FA Cup and lost in last season's Champions League final to Barca. Going into this season we had a match day squad of something like this: ------------------------Neuer--------------------- Walker---Pique------Hummels---Alaba --------------Koke-----Pogba----------------- ----------------------Silva----------------------- Bale-------------Aguero------------Neymar Subs include: Cech, Lahm, Ramos, Rakitic, Schweinsteiger, Ibrahimovic, Kane. Season tickets range from £450-£750 for adults and match day tickets cost between £30 and £60. What do you reckon our average attendance could be in that situation?
  21. Just out of interest, how do you know he's on 18k? Also, is that after his new deal or before it?
  22. What a great player and true Villa legend. I can remember the days when he and Platt were immense in midfield where you could almost guarantee that Sid would find Platty's runs every time he made them. Awesome player and great Villa man. Good luck for the future, Sid. Let's hope that this new regime can take Villa back to the dizzy heights that you once helped take them to and you can experience the highs that we fans experienced when watching you and some of your teammates play.
  23. I look at his signing like this: Kodjia (unknown potential) v Agbonlahor (cannot be bothered) = Kodjia win Kodjia (unknown potential) v Kozak (runs in glue and looks out of sorts) = Kodjia win Kodjia (unknown potential) v Gestede (done it before and off to decent start but looks too sluggish and will we cross it enough for him to head in?) = Kodjia win Kodjia (unknown potential) v Hepburn-Murphy (still inexperienced but unknown potential) = Kodjia win (he's got the experience) That's why I am happy to have signed this guy. It doesn't mean I wouldn't have preferred someone else, such as Rhodes, but I think that we have a tall, dynamic striker who will score us a lot of goals given time.
