  1. I haven't got anything personal against Bruce as a person. I don't care that he played for and managed the Blues. I just worry that he won't hit the ground running as some seem to think and that the fans, because of our past history with him, will give him less time and chants of 'F*** off potato head" will start ringing around the stands. I don't really care who they get in. I'll support whoever it is because I want us to be successful, regardless of who brings that our way. I just don't think Bruce is the man but do appreciate that, as you have pointed out many times, he does seem to be a good fit for where we are now. We fans will always be divided on who we want as manager but with Bruce it seems that the division is bigger than usual. I just hope that differences will be put to one side and that we can all give him our full support should be appointed manager. The same should go for whoever gets the job.
  2. Who cares about what Bruce did at City? The big question is, do we want him as next Villa manager? He is a medicore manager who will only ever manage bottom half of Premier League at best! No, for me.
  3. You're both f**king wrong! Miles better than Mile.
  4. The longer the wait goes on the more I will downheartedly wonder if they are allowing Clarke time to see what he can do before making a decision. Let's just hope that isn't the case.
  5. Or he popped in for tea and biscuits with Shteve Mclaren!
  6. I really don't know if there is anything that we could blame Dr Xia for since he came in. I thought his management team selection seemed pretty ambitious despite the fact I wasn't a fan of Di Matteo - solely because he spoilt my day at Wembley in 2000. I like the communication between Dr Xia and the fans and enjoy the way he won't allow anyone to say anything bad about the Villa. I like his investment in the playing side and don't blame him for the players we have as his job was to bankroll the signings and not choose them. Bear in mind the times he said that he got RDM's choices for him. Dr Xia trusted that by getting the players the manager wanted everything else should fall into place on the pitch. That may still be the case and time will only tell if the owners' player investment has been worthwhile. I have faith in Dr Xia that, if the new manager says that x, y, Z isn't working and he needs to buy additions, the owner will go and get them for him. It's Dr Xia's baby now and we need to trust and support him to do the right thing. I do.
  7. Pre-season, just drop the lot of them - Bear Grylls style - into the Pacific ocean somewhere close to an isolated island, armed with a Swiss army knife and a compass. Go back three weeks later and all those that survived, together with having had the creativity to make a ball and play football with it every day, get to stay at the club next season and be part of the first team.
  8. Mate, I don't know if you were referring to my post before yours but, my point wasn't that he would fail us because he played for, and managed, SHA. The points I was trying to make were: 1) After all the years of stick we have given him - which wasn't exclusive to his time at the Blues but in his other jobs where we have crossed paths - would he really be too concerned about making us fans happy? 2) If things weren't going as us fans want, whether that be results, team selections or performances, would the fans turn on him quicker than they would say Wagner, Smith, Cotterill, Pearson etc? See, I think that the second point is the most important because say we do give Bruce the job, he - just like anybody else who gets the job - will need time to settle in and get to know the players and the best formation to put them in. That might take Wagner, Pearson etc 8-10 games but would we give Bruce that long if we had two wins and three draws from our first 8 games? I just think that Bruce wouldn't get as much time/leniency - call it what you will - from the fan base that other managers would get and what this club really needs is stability as we can't keep changing managers every 12-15 games as that's just insane for the long term future.
  9. Who knows what is right or wrong for the club. We could have Mourinho and lose every game whilst Pearson might win every game. My concern about Bruce is the amount of stick we fans have given him in the past. Will he warm to us? Would the fans turn on him quicker if things aren't going so well, considering the past feelings towards him? I don't think he's right for us purely because of those reasons.
  10. Agree with all except De Laet and Adomah based totally on haven't seen enough to comment yet.
  11. Wagner sounds very interesting and a modern thinking manager. Wagner is also currently doing well with Huddersfield. But, that talk of a high pressing game just doesn't seem to fit with these Villa players. These are players that appear to be hanging out of their arses after am hour and have frequently switched off after 80 minutes. Asking them to play that high pressing game will leave us needing 10 subs at half time.
  12. Calmly passing the ball out of defence, you say? Now think of Hutton, Elphick, Chester and Cissokho doing that. There's not an ounce of calmness in those players. They would need to be sedated before every game for that to work. Either that or he gets Derren Brown in to hypnotise them!
  13. I think the remit for finding a new manager should be that the name fits with Di Matteo's chant because that's the best manager song in a long time. With that in mind.... Dr Tony went to Deutschland in a Honda Civic. He brought us back a manager Mr Ralphy Rangnick. Or go totally left field for Hope Powell.. Dr Tony went to London in a Morris Minor. He brought us back a manager who's got a vagina
  14. I could, as long as any dealings were done with diligence from someone who knows a player's true value.
  15. Jedinak has been a major disappointment so far. He was shocking on Saturday and played so badly it made me wonder if he was feeling sorry for Westwood and so decided to make him look better than he is.
  16. Martin O'Neil for me as he at least got the players playing with passion. I too am a fan of Simon Grayson and have been suggesting him since before Sherwood. He has a good record and it would be nice to get someone in with previous experience at the club. I know that doesn't make a massive difference all the time but I do think that it would be nice to have a manager who has the club at heart.
  17. The bottom four on that list make Sherwood look like Alex Ferguson!
  18. For what it is worth, I think the new manager - whoever that may be - will also struggle because the midfield area is so weak. Only one central player appears to be any good in midfield and he is injured more than he is fit. I think that this season will be one of settling down and getting some more necessary players in January. As long as we don't go down and can gain some much needed confidence out of the season with a top half finish I will settle for that right now.
  19. We do need someone who can show some passion but, more importantly, we need someone who can motivate because the players looked like they lacked motivation at Preston. There's no urgency at all about them and they looked totally clueless.
  20. Been rubbish at times for the last three games.
  21. I'm not sure how I feel about him now. I kept saying we need to stick with him and have some continuity but after yesterday's performance I'm not so sure. Clearly, individual errors are costing us, especially yesterday against Preston but, who picked those players? He could have gotten rid of Westwood in the summer but kept him. He also bought Jedinak. He put that team out yesterday too. You can only defend so far and I am now not sure what the answer is. We certainly don't seem to be improving, which is a huge worry.
  22. Because in his minute footballing brain he actually believed that he had the physical strength and footballing skills needed to turn away from his opponent and continue forward with the ball. Unfortunately for him, he has neither! I have no problem with him as a human being but a footballer he is not, certainly not at the level we are at now or in previous seasons.
  23. Martin O'Neil is a great shout imo. He was the last manager to get Villa playing with passion and spirit.
