  1. Nope - Rome wasn't built in a day! Those players have been plagued by negativity from a manager who seemed to be clutching at straws rather than having a plan of action. We have to allow Smith and co to get their message across and also allow the players time to get used to that plan.
  2. According to Hogan, Bruce just used to tell him to keep working hard whenever he complained about not getting enough of the ball. How refreshing it must be for our players to now have a manager who has ideas other than to just tell them to keep working hard.
  3. I totally agree with the above post. Smith needs time because we need to remember that these players have been used to playing a completely different style of football to what Smith will expect from them and so he's going to need plenty of time to train the new style into them.
  4. Rest In Peace Doug. Like him or not, he's another Villan gone upstairs to see the big man. Since he left we've employed some real dross at our club, dross that would never have been entertained by Doug.
  5. Dean Smith must feel the happiest man on the planet right now - he no longer manages a team that wears a brown and purple kit! ?
  6. He's had his last two clubs playing decent footie and punching above heir weights so let's hope Smithy can do the same for the Villa. I don't care what colour his hair is or who he managed previously - he's one of us - a Villa fan! Now, that may not qualify him to be any better than the next man but, it at least shows he wants the same as us - a successful Villa - and that will do for me to start off with. Good luck Deano - welcome back to Villa Park
  7. Rodgers or Smith for me, someone with a footballing identity. Look what Monk is doing with the alliance from Small Heath. OK, they may be below us in terms of league position but he's had them ripping teams apart at times this season and, with any two our strikers, would have them near the top of the league by now. Decent footie is now what's needed so at least we have something to look forward to on match days.
  8. To be fair TRO, with the way his waistline was looking recently, I think it's more a case of Bruce consuming the job!
  9. After where we were early in the last close season, how any Villa fan can question Henry as manager is beyond me.
  10. Thierry Henry and John Terry would bring so much excitement and energy back to the club with immediate effect. We need a lift and they will give it. We just have to remember that Bruce had left us in a defensive mess and if Terry doesn't play we will struggle to keep clean sheets. But, hopefully, Henry will turn Grealish, Kodjia and co into world beaters and conceding 3 will be outweighed by us scoring 5 ?.
  11. Absolutely loving the idea of Henry with Terry as number two. The level of knowledge they will be able to pass on will be phenomenal for our players. They will be able to see the wheat from the chaff too and I'm sure they will be a success. One of the best defenders the PL has ever seen together with arguably the greatest forward in PL history - what's not to like about that prospect? Come on Mr Owners - make this happen! Edit: I just realised that they need Goalkeeper and Midfield coaches. What are Makelele and Seaman up to these days?
  12. I think the players would really be happy with Henry bring appointed as their manager. Imagine having such a legend as your manager! I think he would be perfect for us and make people realise what a big club we are.
  13. We, as fans, really do have to show some patience towards the new manager, whoever it is. Let's face it, Bruce has really screwed us over by leaving that defence so poorly undermanned and, together with that goalkeeper situation, the new man has a lot on his plate to start off with. It's likely we'll be way off the play-offs by the time the new manager can do anything in the transfer window, if he can do anything at all. It may well be a case of writing this season off and hoping some kind of financial miracle happens to avoid ffp punishment in order for us to really go for it next season.
  14. I don't think MacDonald is under any instructions other than to take charge of the team. I think he picked a team he believed wouldn't be beaten. I'm not so sure. I backed us to draw but this game is one that is difficult to predict. Anyway, I'll go 2-2 with Jack and Tammy being the Villa scorers.
  15. I am glad that we are also looking for a new coaching team because they, as much as Bruce, were to blame for the rubbish football we were witnessing. I am really not too bothered who we get but it wouldn't surprise me if the owners approached John Terry with a player-manager role until the end of the season. We get a defender in, someone who already knows the players and, he would have 3/4 of a season to impress the owners enough to get a first stint at full time management.
  16. Was Purslow at Liverpool when Rodgers was there? If so, it's a no brainer surely?
  17. Really? McGinn, Bolasie, Hourihane? Whelan wouldn't have been in my first five to take it!
  18. TRO, Gary Monk has had Blues playing some decent football this season and just hasn't had the breaks, together with having an awful side. Imagine what he could do with our attacking line-up?
  19. You mean, why a cabbage over a King Edward?
  20. Mate, we had all men in our own half whenever they came out with the ball before a goal was even scored. Remember, this is a manager who has been bemoaning the fact we haven't been defensively tight recently. Where did that philosophy get him tonight? He's a dinosaur simple as and he needs to be replaced with someone with a more modern thinking style.
  21. I wish that a genuine journo would ask the simple question of: "Steve, having lost last season's Captain, John Terry, what made you not want to replace him? If Jedinak is your answer, why?" Please, someone ask him this!
  22. Ipswich away "10 men is hard to win against" when 1-1. 2-0 up at home to the worst club in the league and we held on for dear life after going down to 10 men. How can Bruce explain the above? Does he even try to?
  23. No,he's **** himself up by having a "winning" philosophy of scoring first and defending it to the death last season and half and then messing it up by not replacing a top class centre back and, instead, putting a slow, lethargic, centre midfielder in his place. Bruce created this problem for himself and, like others have suggested,it wouldn't surprise me if it's intentional because it's so inept it begs belief!
