  1. Kalinic, in leggings, in summer! That guy must have balls made of candy floss. I recall the game where he first got injured last season. One of the commentators was laying into him for not showing more strength of character and he never appeared for the second half. Meanwhile, back to Dougie, I think if he shows enough in training he plays on Saturday.
  2. "Pretty much done" doesn't rule out any further signings. It could mean that we will sign Benrahma but only if Brentford play ball and we can agree on a fee. Imagine Benrahma at Brentford today, knowing that the man that wanted him at Brentford is now managing a massive club in the Premier League with a squad full of internationals that cost over £140m to assemble. I bet right now he and his agent are trying to persuade Brentford's top brass to allow that move to happen.
  3. What if we got Augustin and Ben Yedder? Augustin is supposedly back-up but who said he's back-up option for a striker? He could be the back-up option for Benrahma!
  4. If it comes down to paying over the odds for Benrahma or paying over the odds for a striker, the striker will be the deal done. Remember, we have Kodjia who can play wide left so effectively making a fourth wide man. After Wesley we only have Kodjia really as Davis looks like he needs plenty of game time elsewhere or in the U23s.
  5. The Ben Yedder thing seems unlikely to a lot but it does sort of fit in with that notion from a day or so ago where it was claimed that we are going in for an ambitious attempt to sign a striker that would be seen as a major coup and would break our transfer record significantly. The reported 32m euro fee works out to about £29m so would be a new record for us so maybe that rumour has got some legs to it.
  6. Congratulations on your marriage JB24! Let's hope the Villa spoil you with a nice wedding present
  7. I don't think Ben Yedder's stats are all that impressive. Also, considering we scored so many goals from crosses last season, at 5ft 7ins, he doesn't strike me as the kind of front man we would go for these days.
  8. We have three wide attacking players for two places. We have three strikers for one place. Out of those three strikers, one his young and inexperienced at the top level, the other has shown periods of laziness and is not the player he was when he first joined and, the third is young, new to the club and country etc. I think it's fair to think that we will sign either a front man that can play any of the front three positions or two players h a wide attacker and a striker.
  9. Well, saying we're gonna sign someone next Wednesday won't f***ing work anymore so you better start getting more creative!
  10. Adding on from the bits put in the Freddie Guilbert thread today. To the chorus of Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi He's here, there and every where Woooah oh Frederic Guilbert. He eats Brie and Camambert, Woooah oh Frederic Guilbert, Fred-er-ic Guilbert ee air.
  11. She looks like my son's teacher
  12. Deano to Douglas: "Nice to meet you son, you've got a license to show the f**k off and break apart any opponent approaching our penalty area" Douglas to Deano: "That's the shit I'm talking about boss"
  13. It was only £50m earlier so I charged my phone as I felt that price didn't do the player justice!
  14. That's BS because I've got reliable intel he's off to Everton for £94m!
  15. Probably sell him to Bristol City or Brentford for a season and they insert a buy-back clause of £92m?
  16. Not sure DDID. I just recall seeing him quoted somewhere as saying that he wouldn't allow the club to overpay for Maupay after overpaying for Mings.
  17. This will be interesting now as Deano said he would not allow the owners to overpay for Maupay and they didn't because off he went to Brighton. Brentford will know this and this is a deal that may well go to the wire with them holding out for their price knowing Villa held him high on their summer transfer list and, Villa holding out to pay a lower fee knowing that Brentford have already bought in a wide man and we have three to play there already with a possible 4th (Augustin) on the way.
  18. To be fair, Smith probably would have accepted a move to a job in the Faroe Islands if it meant escaping Walsall! To be even fairer, the original poster's point would still be valid even if Villa were a non-league outfit so it's got nothing to do with us being a Premier League club.
  19. Having trawled various sites looking for a player that fits the bill for us I think that if we're going to be spending around £30m on a player it'll be Yussuf Poulsen of RB Leipzig. It's unlikely because of him signing a new deal this year but he's 6ft 4in and can play all across the frontline. Scored 15 goals last season and is the right age at 25. Also scored against us last week. German clubs have until September 2nd to sign players so they'll have time to replace him. Also, they have Augustin, Werner and Lookman who can play up front already on their books. Hey, it's late and I can't sleep so I thought I'd just I would try to find someone out of the blue as a possible new striker.
  20. It's just a name plucked out of the air by me. Villa were by far the best team for scoring goals from crosses last season and I think it's something Dean Smith will look to continue. Therefore, I think our next striker will be someone who is tall and known to score plenty from crosses, which Mitrovic fits. However, I agree with others about his lack of movement. Also, the fact he has that new deal would probably put paid to him.
  21. Would anyone be happy with Mitrovic from Fulham? He's only 24, knows the Premier League well and scored 11 goals for Fulham last season. He's good in the air and would probably cost us less than £30m.
  22. I've never seen Belotti play so can't comment on him as a player. All I know is, after searching his name online, I think there's absolutely no chance he's coming to us. Not if the the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd were quoted £90m a couple of years ago and West Ham being rebuffed for £60m. It we are in for another striker that wil significantly break our transfer record I can see it being for a fee of around £30m. Villa were big on scoring goals from set pieces and crosses last season so can see Deano going for a big target man who's good in the air. Zapata seems to fit that bill rather well although the transfer fee may have to be higher. Even then, it does seem to be a lot of money for a 28 year old.
  23. It's ok. If he goes to Bristol City we will be able to buy him back next summer for £20m.
  24. We're not done yet, Deano still has sights on a more targets and Deano always finds ways to get his players. Just look at Jota for instance. Brentford weren't big enough to keep him from the evil claws of Small Heathens so Deano joined the mighty Villa in order to rescue his player from the cesspit.
  25. That stat alone shows just how low we dropped as a football club - Bacuna played for us on 130 occasions!
