  1. You have no need what so ever to root either a desire or a galaxy s. They will have all the updates quite quickly after they are released by google. Rooting is just like jail breaking an iphone. You don't need to do it, but can if you wasn't to. To be honest there isn't much advantage to rooting with android.
  2. Sony are useless with the updates. I ditched my x10 and got a galaxy s instead. I'd go root your mini and then get a custom mod when one is available.
  3. Fox news is like satan news. Why would you want that?
  4. Been confirmed, just read the techradar review of the 2.2 update. Sky sports, bbc iplayer, 4od all work. Which is going to be very useful indeed.
  5. with the froyo update we can expect plenty of video streaming apps to be developed for android. specifically sopcast and veetle.
  6. I have sky Sports on my x10, it came with it. It was installed by o2. but that's specific to that carrier. But iphone is going to have the edge at the moment in app development. Sky will start with the apple app then follow with the android. That's the way of things at the moment and is the no1 advantage the iphone has over android. But with the 2.2 update we can stream any game we want on our android phones so I wouldn't worry too much about this totti. Actually you can just use sky player to stream video to your android phone as you will have flash support, so can use the normal website I'd assume.
  7. You'll find that people know more about the iphone platform than android. So many people who decide to get smartphones see the iphone as the first step, it's been around for years now and people are familiar with it. Most people have seen iphones before. That's not the case for android. It's only been a proper player for seven months now so many people aren't familiar with what it has to offer. They don't know that it has many advantages over the iphone. So people should have a look at both. Be informed of the merits of both and decide for themselves. People do feel that they might be biting off more than they can chew by starting with android, it has the incorrect image of being advanced. Of something that would be difficult to use, so people think the iphone will be easier, safer. You can't argue with that. Android is a viable alternative to the iphone, not enough people know that.
  8. Another example of something that doesn't really sway anyone. An extra half an inch on the screen isn't exactly amazing is it? The iPhone screen is significantly better, clarity wise, I'm led to believe anyway. That would be the most important screen featureU for me. Exactly, personal preference. People should look at all the option's and choose the phone that suites them. For me, 4inch screen is a must, better for watching movies, browsing the internet, playing games. Also the screen is so vibrant, it really is beautiful and must spell the end for LCD screens. You should try have a look some day at this screen it really is beautiful.
  9. I wouldn't get an iphone. The galaxy s is considerably better, i couldn't downgrade to an iphone and lose this awesome 4 inch screen. Let alone everything else.
  10. I'm not going to bother posting links to peoples opinions from other forums. As you can see most are previous iphone users and so are influenced by their experiences with the 3gs. Anyway I'll post the features of the two phones in the android apple discussion thread. As a newcomer to smartphones should have a look at both platforms and make their own decision which is best for them.
  11. dab I'd suggest you have a look at the Android phone Samsung Galaxy S, it's superior to the iPhone 4 in many ways and is cheaper. If it's your first smartphone I'd highly advise this phone. It's astoundingly good. Pop over here and we can explain the advantages and disadvantages of Android and Apple phones.
  12. They can't, US court found that jailbreaking is legal. Apple can't do squat about it.
  13. Barrier? I don't think so, it's not as if iOS us a better name for a platform than Android. I can't imagine the name would really be a barrier. The phones themselves have good names like Desire, Galaxy S, Xperia, Evo 4G. Pretty snappy names. The problem with Android at the moment is only since the release of the Nexus One has there been a handset to compete properly with the iPhone. So it's only the beginning for Android, as that phone was only released in January this year. Once Android overtake the iPhone in market share then people will start to take it more seriously, many people, including yourself felt it "safer" to go with the iPhone.
  14. The ease of use is a myth, if you check out the Android Apple discussion thread you'll find someone who had an Android phone and now has an iPhone 4. His experience is that Android is easier to use. Anyway, these myths and ignorance about the Android platform will change with time. But the iPhone 4 is a big step up from the N97, Smartphones are the future. I'd be interested to hear in a bit more detail why you though Android wasn't for you. If you'd pop over to the Android Apple discussion thread. Cheers.
  15. Best music player yet. Double Twist It's got a handy widget too, and when you unplug earphones it pauses the song ready for you wjen you plug back in. Also download the desktop companion to do an iTunes style sync of your entire library.
  16. Sorry, wallpapers were an omission, they have wallpapers in the iPhone 4. Wallpapers are nice to have.
  17. I never said it was, I was saying there is no glaring omissions in the iPhone 4 as it's a 4th generation phone. Things that are left out are done so on purpose. Live wallpapers, especially The Super Mario one eat up batterylife so while cool they also have a negative.
  18. True, someone would've said it. Live wallpapers are backgrounds that move a sample of some live wallpapers. I heard the iPhone 4 got wallparpers though, maybe was just static pictures. But as for glaring omissions, there can't be any in the iPhone 4 now, it's the 4th generation phone any omissions are selective now.
  19. He already got an iPhone 4 so no point saying he should've got an Android. I was actually just interested in the "glaring omissions". Selective omissions like flash etc.. are consciously left out but glaring omission, is like something they forgot to put in. I take it mms, copy and paste, live wall papers etc.. are all in the iPhone 4 though yeah?
  20. I don't get what you mean with the last glaring omissions. What omissions did previous iPhones have?
  21. with the 2.2 update you can watch all those websites that steam video. Alluc etc..
  22. Touch Wiz is garbage, I'm not even going to waste any more time on it. I'll try out launcher pro and if I don't like that I'll go back to ADW with the htc sense theme.
  23. Ok this phone is blowing me away. Firstly it has the proper version of swype. The one that actually brings up people instead of puerile. Secondly the screen looks amazing, so much better colour rendering. But whites, it is terrible at them, they all appear blue. Not even close to the x10 for displaying web pages with lots of white like villatalk. Also how can I import my message and call history from the sd card? I backed up everything to there.
  24. Yep, surely with a cast like that it can't be shit? isn't that the point, they need to make it 80's style action movie. Terrible yet brilliant. Kind of like true lies.
  25. Yeah was going to do that after reading your earlier post.
