  1. I use flash on my iphone but the app is clean, quick and fresh. Simples. No you don't, you have no flash on the iPhone and never will.
  2. Does anyone ever read the OS ? I can't think of the last time I was on the site. Maybe I should check it out more often
  3. I'm not a big app person. I like stuff that make my life easier like Locale, Swype etc.. I just need the internet for browsing on the move and especially mobile gambling. It'll be sweet when we get flash so I can watch Racing UK and attheraces from my phone. mykeyb will you post a little about the Villa app does in the iPhone thread. I haven't visited the official villa site in years, so doubt an App would be useful.
  4. The way iOS4 handles multitasking means it will not slow the phone down at all. So don't worry about it.
  5. He's off to England they say as some not so pleasant Republicans have warned him he is a dead man if he stays in Ireland. I wouldn't even want to think what those kind of people would do to him. I doubt it would be painless.
  6. Yup. I went to morocco in June and rang them before I went to see what I was going to be charged and that's what they told me. As I said, I now get unlimited texts (as opposed to 600 a month I was getting then) so I'm not sure how it works now. I assume they don't give you unlimited texts abroad as well! No not unlimited, but they probably give a certain amount free. Enough that normal use wouldn't cost you anything.
  7. read this To get an idea of the new features in 2.2. But the main features are flash support, using your phone as an internet hotspot and faster internet.
  8. Touch Wiz is Samsungs custom user interface overlay on android. Sense is the Desire's. These are becoming less important due to newer versions of android incorporating their functionality. Also custom launchers are being used a lot too. Flash will be coming with the 2.2 update in September. I've had no issue with the wifi. I personally think it must be good as I can link to the free wifi in the central bus station across the road from my office. But that could be down to the strength of their signal. The internet is exceptional on android. Faster than an iphone. It's made by google after all. Also the 4 inch screen is also a plus for internet browsing.
  9. Yeah arguing that it has a better ui is becoming dated. With 2.2 coming in 6 weeks, then android 3.0 before the end of the year picking a phone because it has a good ui is becoming a bit pointless. I put launcher pro on my galaxy s the day I got it and never use touch wiz. Launcher pro is simply better. Also isn't the goal of 3.0 to remove the need to have a custom ui? The bottom line is that the Desire is now an old phone. HTC are bringing out the Desire HD soon and they already have the Evo in America. The speed at which phones are being developed in the Android world now is such that 6 months is a long time.
  10. Dirk on here sold his Desire to buy a Galaxy S so his input would probably be useful to you West.
  11. The problem with reviews is that the Desire came out and was reviewed in January, while the Galaxy S only came out last month. So if the phones were to switch places in the review slots I'm sure the results would be hugely different. Also I find the weight given to the early software on the test devices as misleading. Almost all the little bugs in early software get ironed out in the first three months after release. Also most people use custom launchers making most of the review on TouchWiz and Sense moot. And finally, no extra points are given for screen size nor phone weight. Personally I'd think you'd have to be stark raving mad to pick a 7 month old Desire over a 4 week old Galaxy S. Once you see the screen and feel the weight of the phones you'll know why. Plus the Hummingbird processor in the Galaxy is considerably better than the Snapdragon in the Desire, not to mention there is 10gb of storage on the Galaxy and barely a gig on the Desire. In a spec off the Galaxy is untouchhable at the moment. I'd say in 2 months time there will be a new king. That's the android world right now
  12. I bought a Sony Xperia X10 in April, really liked it. My mate then upgraded from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S on my advice due to what I'd heard/read on various sites. The moment I saw his phone and used it a bit my heart sank. I'd bought the wrong phone. I subsequently bought a Galaxy S and am very happy with it. I think it's the best android phone on the market. I had a tricky decision deciding between the X10 and Desire initially, but had the Galaxy S been on sale when I first got Android it would've been a no brainer. I'm sure most on here would agree it's probably the best phone available in the UK at the moment. It does have one draw back, it has no camera flash. Which may be an issue for some who require some night photos. I'd like to think that opinion is unbiased as I had to choose between an X10 and a Desire initially, then was so impressed by the Galaxy I felt the need to buy it less than 3 months after getting the X10. Anyway, limpid's advice is sound, have a look at both phones in a store and see which one you take too. But under the hood, the galaxy s has the better hardware in every department.
  13. O2 said that about texts abroad? That might make sense as I'm on O2 and was using my phone for quite a bit of texting while in Belgium yet my bill was no more than my regular monthly charge. This may explain it.
  14. I never give Moroccan much of a go. But did try a bung it all in a pot, seal it tightly and put it in a low heat oven for 4 hours. Jamie Oliver did it in Marrakesh. Turned out pretty nice actually. Heat diffuser is one way, but I use my cast iron griddle pan on a low heat, then put the pot on that. Works just as well. But still I prefer the oven. Start on the hob, finish in the oven. Especially for rice.
  15. There is a link about 10 pages back posted by the Don where you can get Swype.
  16. Jol would be worth every penny of his buyout. We are happy to spend money on players when the most important position is sat in the dugout
  17. I think we should stick with MacDonald until the right person is available. We will do more harm than good in rushing an appointment with a sub standard manager.
  18. Thats the spirit.. Of the front runners in the betting he is the only decent manager. Bradley is a complete joke. From America to premiership. Don't make me laugh. Sven, is a comedy figure these days. He can't take over. Southgate failed in the championship. He isn't good enough. Curbishley would be nothing short of uninspiring. Klinsmann had one failed year at Bayern. He also had that buddah incident. Dave Jones? That's not a serious contender. Hughes is unavailable. Though would be decent. So Jol is the only one with a proven record in the premiership.
  19. If we can't get Jol we are going to be stuck with a substandard manager. Simple as that
  20. I have the same problem with my cooker, the lowest setting is too hot to get it on a gentle simmer. Oven is perfect as everyone has an oven and knows how to use it. Also veg will turn to mush if cooked that long with the meat. I'd either throw them in near the end of take the advice of having them as a side dish. Oh and finally marinating lamb is less important than it is with chicken due to the lower water content. You can skip this part if prep time is at a minimum.
  21. We need a manager with Premiership Experience, and with proven success in the league. We are in no situation to be taking chances.
  22. Oh and spice or coffee grinder is a must for any regular curry maker. Pestle and morta is too much effort in the long run and storing spice mixes isn't as good as freshly ground spices.
  23. I seriously recommend using the oven for curries, it works an absolute tread and doesn't require stirring. Also don't grate the ginger, chop it up and the garlic and blend to a paste with the onions. This makes the base for the curry and also acts as a thickening agent. I'm also very fond of light coconut milk used instead of stock or water, it gives a lovely creamy finish without need for double cream.
  24. Bombay Pantry all round the place in Dublin. Fantastic stuff.
