  1. Quite a leap. By my estimations £100 would be the equivalent of £10,000 today I heard Willie Groves got a £4.75 signing on fee as well thanks to having a top class Agent in his corner Yes that would have been a years wages for most players
  2. Did anybody know that in 1893 Villa broke the transfer record by paying £100 for Willie Groves from West Bromwich Albion. Since then we have broke the transfer record 3 times as a selling team. Trevor Ford in 1950 for 30k, then Andy Gray and David Platt. I think we were ripped off with Willie Groves. He was only worth £95.
  3. Have you seen 'The Killing Room'?
  4. Not a fan of Vince Vaughan but Wedding Crashers was a vg film. John Cusack I have always liked. He has been in such crap films but I one I really liked recently is Grace is gone and Being John Malkovich is one of my all time favourite films
  5. Yes I watched it the other night. Not the German version though but I think I have seen it before.
  6. Salma Yaqoob appeared on QT several times when she was leader of the respect party, so they do give the minority parties a fair representation. Of course George Galloway has appeared on it several times since he hijacked the party.
  7. Yes he changed his mind. The majority of posters on this forum thought Villa would go down.
  8. Because they are mainstream party voters
  9. No there's going to be 3 worse teams than them. Anyway its impossible to say until we know the ins and outs in the transfer window. The 3 promoted teams will start off as favs to go down
  10. I don't think so. Everton need a Martinez who is used to working with a low financial budget.
  11. Nobody mentions that Scholes never beat a man for pace. Truth is neither of them really had to as their technique and passing was so good they could split open a defence or score from anywhere with a couple of touches. It's just the way people used to laugh off Scholes's tackling that wound me up for years. Scholes doesn't rank a great either. Definition of great is George Best, Pele, Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, Platini, Zidanne etc. He's not in that league.
  12. Not just lack of pace he couldn't go round players like the real greats of the game. Scholes had a better range of passing and scored more goals
  13. I loved the Brazilian side of 82. I was so disappointed when Italy beat them. Zico is probably my favourite all time player.
  14. First hint that Martinez might be approached after he said he didn't know whether he will be at Wigan next season>
  15. Yes he'd be bonkers to leave Villa even if he was offered a bit extra,
  16. lol, but Southgate and Townsend are so dreary. I like Merson just for the "Fish out of a tree" comment and his teeth falling out was funny
  17. Guess many on here are too young to remember the Brazilian Zico. He was A brilliant dead ball specialist. 52 goals in 72 internationals compared to Beckham's 17 in 115 internationals. Zico was not a forward he was an attacking midfield player.
  18. They prob over achieved the season before and under achieved this season
  19. I know, but if you think of the United greats he would pro be 11th at best Edwards Best Law Charlton Robson Cantona Giggs Scholes Ronaldo Rooney Beckham
  20. He could afford to, his personal wealth is probably 200 million. I think he was one of the best English players of his generation but no way was he a great player. Fergy got rid of him.
  21. Coleman was the best ever in my opinion. Not sure about Murray. We just lack the dynamic pundits we used to have.
  22. And if you compare Wigans squad to Man City theres no way Wigan will ever win the FA cup.. fair point but the winners of world cups are normally the best teams. In the FA Cup a lot of the bigger teams play weakened teams until the final stages. Anyonr that thinks that this England squad could win a world cup is sadly deluded.
  23. He was certainly famous in America even before he went to LA Galaxy as I was living over there in 2002 but he wasn't so much famous for his football but for is image. He wasn't a great footballer like Pele, Messi, Ronaldo, Cruyff. and he lived off that freekick for many years
