John Wick McGinn. Looking forward to Premier League players getting confused by that arse. I think he might start slow and struggle with players hitting the deck as soon as he pressures them, which they will. He'll adjust though, too good not to.

It's crap I agree, but it doesn't mean nothing. It was a backup plan to make sure we couldn't be avoided if they wanted to sell him this summer, but not to a newly promoted rival, which we've just become. Say he had an average time and Fulham were trying to buy him for £10m. They'd rather he went to Fulham than us because they wouldn't be strengthening a rival by selling him to us. But if they accepted £10m from Fulham, they couldn't turn us down, or could just keep a player they didn't want. Even now, if Leicester or someone bid £18m for him and had it accepted, we don't have to worry about negotiation, just boff in there with the same bid. We need to get cracking and get this bloke in before USA. We've hardly got an XI right now!

With them selling Jansson and the winger to spurs, that's it for this move I think. Got funds in for players they feel they can replace. They won't be able to replace this fella in the championship and they know it.

Which is annoying now because if we'd offered to stick £15-18m in it, they'd have accepted I reckon. We were probably playing around with £8-12m, which was sensible. Good lesson going forward for those clauses, not too damaging going a feather higher than appears fair. If you're in the situation they play a blinder, they'll likely have already exceeded the amount you stuck in. No obligation to buy if they don't perform.

Now Merih Demiral has gone to Juve for £15m. Two CBs who could have done a job and I think we could have attracted. All happening in Italy. Hope Suso has an old pal we can get on board to get us in the market there.

We can, but it's changed a lot the last 5 years. If a top 6 team don't win any match, it's a disastrous result and looked at as a huge bonus for the other side. Pretty crap for a competitive league that.

Great shout. But I'm greedy and I want them now. Now now now. We do have an easy-ish start so it would be beneficial if we can bed players in and pick up as many as we can first 10 games or so. Right players more important though, yes.

Agreed. They could also be making us wait until they've got a replacement ready, and suddenly it becomes a chain like a house move being held up by someone 6 links away. Hopefully moves will happen next week but it's Suso and his two scouts who are the ones that I'm looking at here. Got it all to prove. We also got the fella from Barnsley in and you always wonder where the brain of a team is on something that works through levels like recruitment. We'll find out the next few windows I'd imagine, Barnsley have been very busy already this window.

Need players. Absolutely minimum 3 starters, DM and 2 CBs. Ideally 5 new starters from here. If we're really pushing it 6/7, Lansbury and Hourihane will have to improve a lot to get by in the PL. I don't think anyone we currently own that I've missed off will make more that 3 appearances for us this season. Bree snuck on as we're so short.

Less of a risk yes. A lot more expensive, also yes. Guaranteed to be a hit for what will be a juicy outlay? No. All signings are risks really, you have to find the balance. I think Phillips is brilliant and would be much better value for money at £20m rising to £25m than Targett is at £11m rising to £17m.
