Is any squad capable of PL survival then? Would have been useful if he'd filled the squad with players who have some good fundamentals and can improve. Replace Smith with a realistic manager you'd prefer and where are we? Still in a relegation battle IMO. He's made Smith's job incredibly difficult with these buys. I'll be giving Smith more credit than him if we stay up. And I say that as someone who would sack Smith if we do survive, don't think he's good enough for the PL. Suso has made Purslow's job incredibly difficult by buying players who we won't be able to sell for more than what we paid. If we stay up we probably need another 5 starters to finish above 16th.

We should keep him here and use him as a last 20/30 min man. He's had plenty of excellent cameos but struggles a lot starting. Very talented player who always tries to get it down and pass which is a good trait.

Pretty confident they're going to biff the Euros to next year and try and mop everything up from this season before starting again in September or maybe late August. There's too many moving part to abandon an entire season. Leeds and West Brom just miss out on £140m? We get another pile of cash? Won't happen. Football would have peaked if we can have Liverpool not win the league. They absolutely wouldn't have it, you know what they're like. They'd probably refuse to start the next season.

Your constant questioning of "why should we accept relegation" made me smirk when you defended Bruce's failings at almost every turn in the division below. You know we are in the Premier League? That's more difficult than the Championship. Bruce served up terrible football and results at times when we were the "big" team. We were the Man City/Leicester being outplayed by the little boys. Something you just refused to see time and time again, blaming the players. Then Smith came in and got us promoted with those players. If we had Bruce in this league I suspect his reputation would probably be better than it is around B6. He's a backs to the wall manager who puts everyone behind the ball, hoping to get results. Fine in the PL, where opponents can rip you to shreds, not in the Championship. I'll just wait for you to bring up wins over Wolves and Bristol City before we start the circle again.

I agree but it isn't hindsight to say we should have signed another striker, it was a very common opinion. Last season was when Smith's inability or refusal to try any other formation started to show. That formation is just my suggestion but for him to not even try an alternative this pre-season was foolish.
