    Snow Watch!

Inch in the last hour round here and still coming down... Might not be able to get to work at this rate.

    Snow Watch!

Quarter of an inch settled in Great Barr/Kingstanding and still coming down with terminal intensity.
  3. Shock horror at it being called off. Wigan are utterly useless.
  4. If we lose this we'll need divine intervention to save this season being anything other than an enormous disappointment. Wigan are a dire side now.
  5. Check here Thats the make our car kit is and should be around the same age as your Golf. It's very good bit of kit. You might have to do some searching on there for the right one though, as well as some searching online just to make sure of the right spec for your model of car and radio.
  6. Still in development, they teased a few shots of it a few months back just to remind people that it still exists at an expo. Borderlands popularity and all the DLC they did for it basically meant a lot of the workforce got shifted to that away from Aliens, but it should still get made. I can't help thinking that, regardless, it'll be shit. Theres something about the aliens franchise that seems to make games in the series either quality (the earlier PC AvPs) or shite (everything else). A shooter with the same monster all game might get a tad dull, especially when it's something that's going to rely on scaring the player.

    Snow Watch!

Great Barr/Kingstanding has a short lived blizzard that's stopped now thankfully. Can't stand snow.
  8. I've taken 2 tablets of this now, and it's brilliant. And weird. It stops the symptoms of the cold largely, particularly those centred on your nose, which is great. You stop sneezing and stop needing quite so many tissues and feel a bit less bunged up. But in my case at least, I still feel/felt like I had a cold in myself and it also had that medicinal thing where you feel a bit out of it. Which without the symptoms is really weird feeling. While I was at work I was a curious mix of out of it because I was ill and out of it because of the pills. 'Dazed and confused'.
  9. What mark Veedub? If I find out the manufacturer of our system it could definitely help you in that case, we've got it fitted to a 2006 Passat.
  10. Some CD autochangers (particularly after market ones) will have what is essentially a headphone input on the back of them, which should allow you to run the ipod through the stereo in a pretty Heath Robinson way just with a cheap cable. Theres loads of makes of aftermarket ipod connections, I'll look up the make of the ones we've had in our car which has been pretty flawless - it makes the iPod show up as the 6th CD in the autochanger and works simply using the car stereo controls. Can be fitted DIY style if you're alright with a soldering iron and a wiring loom but you can get any car stereo place to fit one. I will suggest that any you go for, make sure, if you can, that it allows the stereo to control the ipod, for track skipping and the like. Just makes things easier and safer than leaning across to mess about with the ipod itself.
  11. Not being entirely sure where I stand at work. I'm a temp atm along with a few other guys, but I'm apparently the favoured temp as the boss keeps chucking hours at me when he gets them, I'm doing double the hours of some of the other guys. That apparently according to the main staff fellas means that if we're allowed to keep someone on, I'm who they'll go for. But then the boss keeps giving me the really dogsbody style jobs more often than not which makes me think I won't be staying on regardless. Won't know till my contract ends what'll happen but the mixed message is doing my head in. And another work related one, working while ill. My shift today was quiet, and hardly the hardest I've done, but it was hell just because I was feeling **** shit. Shouldn't have gone in on reflection, but I felt I shoudl do rather than drop them in it.
  12. The handgel I'd imagine is more to do with stopping the spread - main way of transmission is through touching infected surfaces then touching the face. Shouldn't matter to the sufferer really. I'll definitely look to sending someone down to Boots tomorrow for Contac though, anything that relieves the symptoms and curtails the cold I'm all for. I would have some whiskey in my tea Brumerican but I don't drink tea and theres no whiskey in the house (mores the pity).
  13. 1. Vitamin C 2. Eichinacea 3. Contac (available from Boots etc and is amazing) Oh and use hand gel or you will keep giving yourself the germ. Will investigate Contac. Already damn near ODing on orange juice, and I've been given something caustic that claims to be hot lemon that helps for about 10mins at a time. Not too sure about the handgel though, my understanding of immunology suggests that continuing contact with the virus shouldn't make any difference once you've got it and the body is fighting it . Works out for people around you though. Typically I get this on the night I'm supposed to be going on a date, the day before I have to go for a Job Centre interview and also the day before I basically start a period of working everyday until January (barring Christmas Day). Couldn't script timing better than that, really couldn't. I **** hate being ill.
  14. Anyone got any tips for getting rid of a cold? I could feel it coming on last night but it's got full hold of me now, and has already started to ruin plans at a really bad time of the year to do so.
  15. Touchy... I apologise that it wasn't entirely clear you were making a joke.
  16. If you're having to use the castrated version of the lovely ladies thread to get yourself off you're going to blow your mind (amongst other things) when you discover what typing naughty things into Google can reveal to you.
  17. That'll be the last incarnation of the thread.
  18. Supposed to be on a date tonight, but over night I've had a stinking cold come on and it's not a pretty sight (even less so than usual). This shouldn't piss me off because we were going to the cinema to see a film I had no interest in seeing, but it does because I want to go out and I'd like to see her again.
  19. Nearly half of all the known species of animal on Earth are insects.
  20. Anyone watching 'The War You Don't See' on ITV? It's been a fascinating watch so far (annoyingly I missed the first half hour), although some of it I was already aware of, it's rivetting.
  21. into Having a binge on this great band. Wasp Nest is one of their less well known song but has a couple of great lines - '...You're poison in a pretty glass'

    Smoking Ban

Pubs are going bust, imo, because they've been squeezed by cheap home boozing and thus the pub has increasingly become more of 'an event' type deal - somewhere you go out to specifically for a good time, rather that habitual thing they used to be. Thus the pubs that don't have either a) a considerable regular local crowd, or a selling point etc, go down the swanny because the average person can get twice as sloshed at home for less than half the cost, and if someone does want to take on the cost of going out they go to a more upmarket place as part of a larger night out or they go to the pub specifically do infrequently that the trade dies off. The ban may have stopped a few people going to the pub, but I'd bet my last penny on cheap booze from supermarkets and the like being far greater to their demise.

    Smoking Ban

While smoking added a little to the atmosphere, it also made everyone and everything stink, theres the health issue and frankly it was just a bit unpleasant. I'm all for the ban. I also don't think it'd do anything to save pubs whatsoever.
