  1. The new page thing is intensely annoying, I always hate being the last comment on the previous page, because you know 90% of readers won't look... Anyway, the number plate wasn't on them in the film. They were really easy to convert to road legal status (underneath it's an old Landrover van IIRC) and a few people did, since there were enough of them made for the fil that they weren't immensely hard to come by if you really wanted one. Presumably, that pic is one that someone did buy and convert.
  2. One downside of the Greeks going out will be the endless amusement provided by commentators and their names. I always smile when the commentators have that brief, nervous pause as they prepare to say a name with 12 syllables and pray they don't have their tongue collapse under the weight. And also the slight joy they seem to get when they say 'Papadopoulos'.
  3. Rumours of trouble with the director gives me even less hope for that film being any good. A lot of the photos released for it look crap too, the helmet is far too big for Urban's head, and the whole thing seems to have nowhere near the budget the creators would like. Sadly. A good Dredd movie would be fantastic. Trailer should drop soon. Speaking of Dredd... Remember these from the Stallone version? I've managed to get up close to one, they're massive. When I was little we used to spend a load of time in Aberystwyth, every other weekend nearly, and the Landrover dealership in the town ended up being given a couple to have for some reason, and you could get really close to have a mooch. Always thought they looked very cool. Sadly nobody looked after the things and I distinctly remeber the last time I saw them they were in a pretty bad state of repair.
  4. Speaking from a neutrals perspective, Greece have just not been good enough. They're the obvious weak link in a fairly weak group overall.
  5. Listening to a podcast recently they had a debate on whether there is a time when you need to get into Rush by or you'll never 'get' it. Personally, can't stand the band.
  6. Constantine is on ITV at the moment. Somewhat of a guilty pleasure, it's entirely rubbish but the premise deserved better. Unfortunately they **** it up (Keanu Reeves?!) and the entire thing feels like nobody had any faith in it. Constantine still has promise for a film though. A cynical Scouse occult detective, chain smoking and cancer riddled, with a side of con artistry and magic. It ties into that style of fantastical reality very well. Sadly the film they made **** it up royally has killed any chance of it being done well.
  7. Yeah thats my problem with Superman. He's incredibly dull - when you need to make up a completely arbitrary weakness, somethings gone wrong with the character. The idea of Superman basically being so powerful he would surely find it hard to relate to humanity, or even just Earth, is the inspiration for Alan Moore in Watchmen with Dr Manhatten. (saying that, Superman does provide Batman with one of his most badass moments. Knowing that he might one day have to take on one of the other 'superheroes' in the world, he gets hold of a Kryptonite ring and one shots Superman with it)
  8. Aquaman is a pretty shit character, made worse by DC themselves admittedly. Marvel basically nicked the character and ended up with something much, much cooler, Namor. I'd struggle to understand him being a popular character amongst kids. Must be the animal thing.
  9. Me neither. Justice League is... just... bad. DC wide issue though really, a lot of characters that just don't lend themselves to popularity like Marvel has been able to. You've got Batman, sure (a strangely cinematic superhero, works far better than many others on film), and Superman (the archetype, really)... and then it all goes wrong. I mean the traditional line up of the Justice League is Batman, fine. Superman, fine (though I'm not a fan) Green Lantern, stupid and one failed movie already. Martian Manhunter, a really, really dumb character that you genuinely have to cringe at the thought of on screen. Wonder Woman, not the greatest The Flash... yeah, ahem... And ****' Aquaman. It just doesn't work somehow. It's somehow just inherently more silly than the Avengers, which isn't exactly serious stuff to begin with. Thankfully, I don't think they'll do it. I don't think they could manage to do the Avengers style formula as the only characters there anyone is even vaguely going to buy, or care about, in enough numbers, are the ones that already can sell movies on their own, Batman and Superman. And it'd be a long way off either way. Despite there being constant whispers about writers and scripts being knocked up. As for the Dark Knight Rises, I'm still convinced that the film is going to leave Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne unable to be Batman again (dead/broken), but he has apparently been quoted this week as saying he'd do another film if needs be. Throwing people off the scent or am I just wrong?
  10. There has been some talk of the various studios pulling their finger out and knocking out a Justice League movie in the vein of the Avengers, with this film and it's ending of Nolan's time with Batman being a convenient excuse to reboot down the line and have the next Batman film be a part of that project. A long and difficult road for that though. Not helped by the fact that the Justice League's constituent characters are a bit ropey beyond the obvious.
  11. Demand for IMAX tickets was so much that their website crashed earlier on.
  12. I sincerely hope all the other candidates I'm up against in these things are dire, with CVs riddled with errors, because if it is the case I might actually get a chance. Unfortunately, my record thus far suggests they're not.
  13. Boston City Hall. The library comes from the same school of architecture, Brutalism, hence the similarity.
  14. It's not going well. Companies and businesses want very specific things, in graduates they want very specific degrees and excellent A Level results. In some cases they want experience as well. Normal vacancies want experience for even the most lowly roles. It's difficult to get your foot in the door. I worked in a shop for 18 months. My CV isn't the best because theres not really the chance to improve it the moment. Been about 10 weeks now since I was made redundant. All I can keep doing is pinging off the applications I guess. Starts to get at you after a while. It's not like I'm expecting to waltz into an excellent job - I'm pitching myself way below a graduate wage and I want to prove myself. And yet, nothing. You start to worry that nothing is ever going to come, or that the promise you had is waning away.
  15. Always liked Shevchenko, a shame we never saw the best of him in England, for Milan he was terrifyingly good. Nice chap by all accounts too. And, of course, in this match... MELLBERG! <3
  16. England better than I expected but still not that great - Welbeck is really not much cop imo and we really never looked like creating a really great chance from open play. As for the ref... well, on the one hand, I'm quite happy to see a ref that is prepared to let a load of the scrappy fouls go by, on the other hand he was pathetically inconsistent. All in all a bit shit. Still, a decent start for England.
  17. Another job application gone off this afternoon. I'm getting fed up of this.
  18. 2-0 France, at a canter. I genuinely believe there isn't anyone that really gives a toss about this tournament in England. Which you have to suspect is for the better, really.
  19. A wild Brazilian appears! Well aware of the irony of saying that during an Ireland match, but still
  20. Game over. Not sure what Given could do there really, just unlucky.
  21. Mladen Petric not play for Croatia anymore?
  22. Italy's revolutionary tactic of playing strikers paying dividends?
