Eh? course I do, he could have been a great signing, and was expected to be after THAT wonder goal, but it wasn't a great signing, just as when the barcodes signed one of the world's best finishers in Owen, it wasn't a great signing cos he spent most of his time keeping the x-ray machine ticking over.
Fair point.
all im saying though, is for every berbatov, there is a luc nilic. I'm not convinced that up front is our priority anyway, because it has traditionally been the case (recent signings and end of season aside) that the lack of goals has been largely down to a lack of midfield creativity. I would sort out issues at the back and in midfield before looking for our 'Henry'
He might also turn out to be the next Luque. Say what you want about bellamy and/or smith, at least you know what you are getting, and that includes 100% effort on the pitch, particularly in Bellamy's case. This is a team game, and if martin blends the right type of players, they won't have to be absolute superstars. Although admittedly that Alves boy looks talented, and I wouldn't say no to ronaldinho
I thinksadly that he is never gonna be the immense player he was, and if I really think about it, you are probably right. We could use someone in his mould though.
I've just slagged him, I know, but I still would. If I had to describe the type of striker who I thought would be perfect as a foil for Carew, I would be describing owen.
It is at the very least the death knell for an international career. No way you are gonna get into the england squad if you are playing 5 games a year, unless you are michael owen
You are an up and coming player, not yet in the england squad, but on the periphery, courted by lots of teams whose squad you would improve- would you sign for a team who has 3 full internationals in your position already? He would have to be mad, greedy or stupidly optimistic to sign for the 'ski.
I think Sidwell is better than Gardner right now. He needs a bit of time yet IMHO. Besides it's choice isn't it, maybe on those tricky trips away to top sides, maybe you want to put an intrinsically more defensive team out, or against yer physical bolton-type teams, you want your more solid players on. As far as I am concerned, as long as he differs with regard to the style of player we already have, and he is of similar quality he would only be an asset.
Ill tell you, I would be happy if that was the list. All of those would significantly improve the squad.
Jagielka or luke young though? hmmm. Plus there was that portuguese left back people are saying we are after.
I think up front, if we do go in for someone (and I am not convinced necessarily that we need to) we need purely and simply a 100% finisher, a nasty ba$tard goal poacher to feed of the tricks and speed of ash and gabby, or the knock downs of big john.
So do you reckon we could be seeing bouma at some point as a centre back next season?
Besides, I would have thought that right back was a higher priority.
Noooo. Antunes, or whoever he is. I take it he's a full back? We always seem to go for full backs from portugal. Wasn't fernando nelson from that neck of the woods?
