If you are a player whose contract is running out, and there is talk by fifa of ineligibility for world cups, or any other competitions, would you risk your career on ESL being a success, or would you sign for a year or two with a 'best of the rest' team until this blows over and see what happens? With no top talent the ESL is doomed.

Serves them right. How many sports have they killed by restricting viewership for profit. Boxing is the main one, but also sports like Speedway. I hate Sky.

In a way I hope talk of this carries on until the summer, so that no players of note sign for the big clubs in case they get banned from playing in the World Cup. Villa will give you a safe haven boys!

You are right. If you build a financial model for your club which necessitates the money from the CL, the only way to protect that model is to ensure year on year qualification. In a sense it is the duty to the shareholders of those clubs to make this happen. Which is why, along with the crippling losses incurred by owners, football can not and should not be run like a traditional business.

50+1% would mean fan majority ownership. Granted it would be unlikely that all of the fans were unified on any subject, but I was really being facetious to highlight that I don’t think that most fans know what they want for breakfast let alone how to support a long term strategy (myself included!).

I don’t like the idea of fan owned teams if i’m honest. If fans had real power over the running of the club, we’d have a new manager every time we lost a game.
